Borderlands from Gearbox

Is this just as enjoyable offline? Because I'm quite interested seeing as it's going for less than twenty dabs now, but don't have any friends :(.

I gave up trying to talk the few people I know on Steam who own it to multiplay when they ran headlong into the ports/NAT/forwarding shit it used to make you jump through (alledgedly fixed but I'm past caring atm) - so I've mostly played offline and loved it.

I've done PT1 and Zombie Island but my resolve to play PT2 is softening - I'm sure I'll pickup that soon but I'm kinda overpowered for it (thanks to Zombie Island) so it will be dull for a while I guess...

For the £13 it costs online, it's a gun-porn-zerg of magnificent proportions solo or teamed-up tbh

Im level 25, and am a bit stuck. Some of my live missions take me to Rust Commons East, an area with several rocket turrets and gun emplacements. Although the missions are 'Normal' difficulty, I get killed before I can get through the area to go to the next. Is there a way to negotiate this area without being shot to death by bullets and rockets..?

One solution to this is to visit Zombie Island - it's level is determined by your story progress so you can go there anytime (you have access to rapid transit) and get a few levels whilst collecting BRAINZZZZZZ

"The Jacobs corporation understands some of it's employees are using other companies weapons for their elemental modifications. The Jacobs corporation would like to remind it's employees of the company motto "It's it's not a Jacobs I'd rather be dead" and to lead by example"

"400% MORE AWESOME AND WE DON'T MAKE OUR GUNS OUT OF FREAKIN WOOD!!!

I did that bit by taking the turrets out with the sniper rifle as mentioned by someone earlier, took ages, but worked in the end. Level 29 now, really enjoying this, it pulls you in and is really addicitve, the amount of times Ive been about to put it down but decided on 'just one more mission'. Its got me in a similar was as Fallout 3 did. The travelling can be a bit of a pain though, sometimes its not clear which area your target actually resides in so I tend to have to drive across them following the waypoints.

The mission description always tells you the area and you have fast travel.

Except I suppose in those rare cases a mission is in a completely new area that isn't off where you get the mission. But that's quite rare.

If you return to town it's not always obvious where a place/zone is - as you can only see your current area map and not an overview or anything like that.

It's an odd omission but not gamebreaking.

The mismatch of levels you can end-up with in PT2 is more of a problem tho - I'm kinda bored killing stuff 5 levels below me but I have to do at least the core story stuff to progress...

I don't even use the bank in Moxxi's. No point keeping weapons that I don't use.

That's a big factor in why I didn't buy it (aside from arena combat with no incentives striking me as incredibly boring). Throughout both my Borderlands playthroughs, I never once found myself torn between guns or lacking inventory space to carry them all.

Yes but if you look at the mission list it says "Rust Commons whatever".

The voice chat still fucked on the ps3 version of this.

If you've got access to a laptop, using that with skype is a godsend. ;) Crystal clear, without that weird delay. In Borderlands, the game actually runs smoother with in game chat off, so it's doubly useful.

For someone who hated Fallout 3, is this game recommended?

Yes, it's nothing like Fallout 3 (apart from the barren wasteland). It's purely about shooting and finding better guns to do more shooting. There are lots of quests to do.....but they always involves shooting.

Allegedly fixed, you say? I haven't played online for a few weeks, but when I did I was using Hamachi and it still only had a 40-50% chance of working (although this was generally enough, for some reason it would often work with one player hosting, but not the other); then if you quit out of one game that you were hosting but then decided to start another you had to restart the game. Shocking, really.

Thank you for the link, Beer. It really is sounding and looking amazing. Really should get round to buying Moxxi.

Moxxi is great in multiplayer.

Can't wait for this DLC

Odd, I've only ever played it four player and I found it to be the most tedious grind. All the loot is significantly underpowered and borders on useless. The punishment for all getting killed is a tad harsh and you can quickly lose a lot of progress if people start losing interest. Which, with no checkpoints, they will. Expecting people to have 3 hours to sit and play online is asking a tad too much. I know people who play MMOs manage to but they skip things like bathing which the console crowd aren't quite up to as yet.

At first it seems amazing, the intro movie, the boss rounds and that amazing music. Then you get on to the big rounds and you wonder why you're wasting your life. If they'd let you get experience I could see it being useful but it's just dull. That's the worst crime any game can commit. Other than being Perfect Dark Zero of course.

Gone back to this for the DLC after being obsessed with it upon launch last year. The second playthrough is proper hectic - I'd forgotten what a mad experience it is. I know the skags came under a lot of fire from people playing solo for the first time, but they're so blood-thirsty the second time through. When one of those big lightning/fire-spitting alphas comes out in the middle of a wave of smaller, hulking beasts it's almost a mini boss battle. Playing as Brick it's a case of trying to control them all with stunning punches, shotgunning when given the opportunity. Because the game constantly throws enemies at you until the skirmish encounter ends it's all down to reflexes and thinking on your feet, rather than being a master strategist. You just have to wade in and get your hands dirty.
