Assassin's Creed 2

Monkichi 3.0

Hey, no Assasin's Creed 2 thread? You people are cold when holding grudges. Come on guys, the the first one was so nearly there. I played it again over the weekend and it is actually really cool. Yeah it's the same thing again and again, but let some months pass to the point where you forget a lot of the stuff, go back to it and it's awesome again. Plus it looks jaw dropping, especially the main character.

Anyway, enough about 1, what about that new one huh? Double blade attacks, more weapons, flying (That looks a bit dodgy to be honest), VENICE, colours... looking good people, looking GOOD.

I do.

I liked Assassin's Creed 1 despite its repetitive missions as they reinforced the feeling of being a stealthy assassin. Sure, just sitting on a bench to overhear a conversation is hardly the most complex gameplay, but it fitted with the whole atmosphere of being able to quietly blend into the city & the crowds to hide, gather intel & complete your mission, then being able to break cover when you chose & turn the city into your personal free-running sandbox.

It was a pity the game tended to fall apart when it came to the actual assassinations with most of the intel you collected not being the useful or sometimes downright disregarded & that final slog through waves of enemies was terrible, but my hope is that Ubisoft have taken these criticisms onboard & the Renaissance setting combined with Da Vinci's gadgets looks like being an even more interesting setting for the game.

I also want to know where the story is going after AC1's cliffhanger, & I hope this time Desmond has more to do.

I didn't actually finish the first one. I only got through the first two assassinations, and it was already too repetitive for me. I do think that the second one looks pretty interesting though, so I've borrowed AC1 to finish.

It had better be good, though, Monkichi, or I'm blaming YOU.

Every time I heard that I considered it my cue for a fun little challenge where I casually stroll up to them & see how many I can kill before they even realise what's happening. At best I was able to hidden blade 2 & kill the last with just one counter-move so it was over in seconds & I felt like a total badass.

I'm a sucker for a nice box. If it's anything like the recent Prince of Persia special edition then I'm sold. The art books are always a nice addition. The inclusion of the soundtrack is fantastic. Until a few minutes ago, I was under the impression that Ubisoft had only released a small selection of music from the first game. As it happens, there's a full soundtrack (well, twelve tracks) available from iTunes and Amazon. I really hate these figurines, but I think the worst offender in this package could well be the bonus content, if it's exclusive to Play.com. If it's like Gears 2 whereby the DLC can be found in all the special editions then that's fine.

As an aside, I'm sure I read somewhere that Ubisoft had sent Jade Raymond off to work on some other random project after the debacle surrounding her involvement with the first game. It's nice to see that she's still the producer of ACII.

If past Ubi Soft and Play deals are anything to go by — Prince of Persia, FarCry 2 — the unlock code will be generic across all copies of the game. In other words so long as someone on the 'net posts what it is everyone will be able to redeem it.

If this is the "official" thread, we should start by spelling the name properly in the thread subject :)

Que?

Seriously, I do get why so many people dislike it, it's the same thing again and again. Personally I can only play it in relatively short bursts, maybe a few days in a row until fatigue kicks in. The thing is, it just looks awesome. I love moving Altair through the city and making up little stories in my head. When I hear the "THIEF!" line I pretend I'm some superhero and kill the mob etc. The gameplay in itself isn't that rewarding, but I almost look at it as a toy.

I'm quite hyped up for this new one, but I will confess there is a reason for it. The setting. Have any of you read the proper edition of Count of Monte Cristo? A large part is set in the same setting, with the plaza masked parties etc. The thought or running around pretending to be the Count and stabbing people up, well, it makes me grin.

On that same subject, whilst watching the trailer again and again, I was thinking how awesome a Count of Monte Cristo game would be. It would obviously be far more RPG than Assassin's Creed but it could be awesome. You could decide how to get your vengange, and they can introduce new characters for you to decide to help/destroy.

The setting is indeed awesome. I doubt there will be a game this year with a better setting (though Arkham Asylum is a good one as well). If they really fixed the problems of the first (and they certainly seem to go in the right direction), this could be one of the year's best games. I'm always optimistic, so this is no exception. :)

Ack, don't get Monkichi started on Batman, he's probably already spunked himself silly over Arkham Asylum!

As for Assassin's Creed - I did enjoy the brief time I spent with the first one, though the illusion got shattered on the VERY FIRST target - when I couldn't stop him assaulting that peasant :(

I really enjoyed fighting HORDES with just my hidden blade though - those hidden blade reversals were fucking lush :)

I have indeed :hat: I totally called it on the thread when it was announced. Do you remember Dan from work? He now works for the developer making Arkham Asylum.

Assasin's Creed 2 is looking good too.

Variety is the most important thing. If they live up to their promises and make it fun, it could be one of better games released this year. I just completed Mass Effect and loved it, but those identikit missions became a bit boring after awhile.

I said it before, in terms of setting this game is definitely more interesting than most. Buy you could say the same about the first, a great setting and engine alone don't make for a great game.

I like what I'm seeing though.

Speaking of which:

Meet Ezio

Doesn't include a lot of new footage, but there are some nice guard kills in there.
