The legend grows as this classic descendant of Fatal Fury arrives on Xbox LIVE Arcade. It's been 10 years since the death of Geese Howard. However, Howard's immense martial arts skills have been passed to his son, Rock. The new hero is joined by a cast of 12 new characters plus one returning fighter, Terry Bogard, for this tournament of champions. Representing the world's best, the maulers gather once again to crown the "King of Fighters." Garou: Mark Of The Wolves improves on the Fatal Fury system by adding three new battle formats, creating fights more furious than before.

Man it's a shame I don't have a 360, I'd love nothing more than planting Meh's head between my spandexed thighs while I then bury his face into the stony earth all the while wearing an Eagle's head :)

Except I'm not getting this, seeing as it runs so well on the PSP. Bog beats sofa any day (a rule for life, really).

Aha! But can you connect a Tournament Edition SF4 Arcade Stick to your PSP? And if you somehow could do that, would you be able to take it along with you to the bog? And even if you also managed to do that, would you then be able to play online against all your friends on Live? I think not!

I feel so humble.

Although I'm fairly sure your second query is entirely possible, I don't think SF4 sticks are larger than the entrance to my toilet.

I'll probably pass, I've yet to see a port or emulation of a Neo Geo game thats isn't completely pissed all over by the original cart. And I don't play the two Real Bout's I have, never mind playing another Fatal Fury. I'm not as enthused as I was when it was originally announced. But then, I'm not a typical user, as I've got a cab pretty much just for use with Neo geo ;)

*goes off to play Kof96*

I think its relevant here, if it doesnt run like the cart after all these years, i'm not interested. If it does, i'm interested. SNK don't have a great track record here. And as I said, thats my personal opinion, most people won't notice or care and will just enjoy the game.

I'm a port snob, sue me ;)

The big bonus is play over Live though. If you're anything like me, you struggle to find anyone decent who's interested in playing you on the cab, right? I can take the hit of a diminished port for the considerable bonus of instant competition.

Experience suggests I'm actually quite shit at fighting games ;) My SFIV online record was something like 17%

You raise a good point, hence my comment about me being a atypical user and that most people will be happy with the port no matter how "accurate" it is. You spent £300 on the Aes version, you probably spent a lot of time on it to be a worthy opponent. I'll just get my ass kicked :D Besides, I'm cancelling my live sub soon through lack of use :P

Having never played Garou, would someone care to explain why it's held in such high regard? In detail, if possible.

I've played it once, at the Science museum games exhibition thing. Having never played it before, I destroyed two different ten year olds who challenged me.

It seemed pretty cool. Hopefully that is enough detail.

It's got great animation and balanced gameplay, with none of that plane-shifting crap from earlier Fatal Fury games.

Also, it completely rips off Robert Miles' Children as one of the stage's BGM. Not sure if that is a good thing, wonder if that will get to the XBLA release.

It's seen by some as SNK's Street Fighter III. I've never played it, but several people have said to me words to that effect.

I'm guessing it's because he doesn't own a 3S cab.

Anyway I played a bit of Garou on MAME on the ol' Xbox but I didn't really understand it. I have this habit of playing every single 2D fighter that isn't Street Fighter like it's Street Fighter and then not liking it because it's almost but isn't quite Street Fighter.

You don't like Street Fighter III ? In the sense that SFIII is the most indepth of the SF games to date, it's a bad thing for SNK to have a version of that?
WTF.

You have to remember that SFIII isn't universally liked. There are people who don't like the parry system, because it allows people to be safer when jumping than in SFII or IV - just one example. I like III myself.

Never enjoyed III. I couldn't really get parrying, and parrying totally negates the fireball as a tactic. It might well be deeper, but it's by no means anywhere near as accessible as the other SF games. Result: currently clocked about 200 hours in SFIV. I must have knocked ten times that into various versions of II and Alpha. I played II on the Dreamcast for a total of maybe five hours. Though probably not helped by having no one to play it with.
