The Playstation Move

Everywhere in Southend had it at £39.99 (Sainsbury, Gamestation, Game, HMV)

Oh Right.

Cheers for that brad. I'll just drive over there then, so wasting approx. £5 in petrol (more in fact, as i drive what some would call a small bus).

See. Thats why Surrey is more expensive, so bloody Essex folk can get it cheaper!

Badly.

Only insofar as it doesn't have more sunshine and less events. It controls better to me though - i found WSR inaccurate sometimes.

Although i might add i don't have the Wii at the mo, and have just bought Move. More expensively then some too.

Which may taint my view.

I kinda liked the fact the events have different locations plus 30 levels per event.

Certainly makes Bowles more interesting. I can even play with my dad.

And The last game we played together was Microprose's Gunship. On the C64.

On which events? The only event I ever needed to recalibrate on was table tennis, and when I realised you can just press down on the d-pad to instantly centre it, it became a total non-issue.

My problem with Sports Champs is that its presentation is so sterile, and its characters so clichéd they're borderline racist. In WSR you get loads of Miis clapping and cheering when you win something. Sports Champs you get a bit of text and your rubbish character doing a victory pose. WSR has more interesting 'achievements', too.

That said...

I kinda liked the fact the events have different locations plus 30 levels per event.

This, although the latter part is kind of overselling it a bit. It's the same ten levels each time, just with increased difficulty. And some of the locations are incredibly dull. Bocce's brilliant, though, and its courses are more interesting. I'm a little surprised Nintendo didn't offer something similar, particularly as boules is an ideal beach sport. And table tennis in Sports Champs is undeniably more precise.

So, on a whim I decided to pick this up. £40 later and I've got a controller, my eye from eye of judgement and eye pet game for £5 from CEX.

I'm very impressed. It is really really really accurate and much more intuitive than the wii (even with motionplus).

The demos are good and tumble is extremely impressive. Also, eye pet is now actually a fun family game and is vastly improved with the move controller.

I have serious doubts about kinnect (not least of which is the price), but move seems like inexpensive cool new tech. I'll pick up Resi 5 in a few days and am really looking forward to Sorcery.

Yes, they controls are superior to the Wii but the package as a game isn't great overall. The presentation is lousy and it's got even more of that tech demo feel than Wii Sports had way back when.

Sports Champions plays really nice but it's got even more of that Wii Sports thing where you don't play it once something better comes along.

Watch this...

Ignore my signature, as I used some Argos vouchers to pick up a Move controller. :blah:

So, heres what i've got.

- 1 Move controller.

- A hardly used PS3 Console.

- A hardly used copy of Eyepet somewhere when i originally bought it.

What can I do??

PSN Demos I suppose.

and does Eyepet update itself?

Do i need the other controller yet?

I found the Heavy Rain demo worked well with the new Move Gestures once I'd cottoned onto what the symbols meant. Is the original game being patched or is it only the new Move edition which will be compatible? I might give it another playthrough.

I believe it's being patched for everyone. Sony must have realised it would be taking the piss to ask people to buy the game again.

Good Lord, Resident Evil 5 Gold is awful <_<

Scares: 0

Exciting moments: 0

Deaths because your braindead colleague gets herself in trouble: a lot

What is the use of the 'dying' sequence anyway. When I am dying I can not do anything but wait for my colleague to help me. Yeah, that is a good idea, have the AI take care of me when it can't even take care of its own. I can not count the times I ran to a spot (door, ammo box) or I was fighting enemies from a distance using the rifle when all of a sudden, out of nowhere the screen went purple and negative showing me my partner is in trouble. Once again. And if she dies, I have to start over from the previous checkpoint.

Ugh, what a mess.

Currently have the demo of Tumble on. Letting my 3 year old play and he instantly got it (once I showed him the button to press to hold the blocks)

Sony seem to have really got this tech right. I just hope they follow it up with some proper support in the long run.

For me it works really well as a console extra and not what you build the console around.

Yeah, they fucked up bigtime by giving you a forced companion and especially one that is so rubbish. It gets better if you play it with another person but they really could have done single player better.

The sports it does in common, it does better.

Gladiator with two wands is loads better. Disco Golf is much better with its nice bunch of varied, designed for Frisbee courses. However, I think I'd rather play WSR Golf over both of them. Archery I'm not sure about now, maybe it's a tie. Neither are close to being favourite sport in either game anyway. Bocce is wonderful and absolutely pisses on Bowling, but that's principally because boules is a much more enjoyable game anyway. Table Tennis in Sports Champions is fantastic, a much more sophisticated representation of the sport. I did love the WSR version to bits, but ever since I reached Silver and started to get my head around the control you have over all the shots you can pull off, I think I might be enjoying this even more. I don't like Volleyball, but it's better than Basketball.

This of course doesn't automatically make SC a better game than WSR. It's solidly presented, but completely lacks that Nintendo Mii World charm. It also has fewer events with no amazing plane flying, but it does have more quality control.

I am on a catwalk with 8 enemies on my tail. They are tough to kill so I gave myself an upgraded shotgun for close combat and my colleague the rifle so she can take em out one by one from a safe distance. Obviously, she does no agree and does not use the rifle at all. She stands there idle, shouting "Chriiis!!!" when I eventually die.

If I send her up to the catwalk she will run past all enemies, making the 8 go to 12

Enough about this steaming pile now. Move, yay!

I've been playing Resi on the easiest difficulty setting, the irritations of Sheva become much less of an issue then. I'm just ignoring her most of the time, running around blasting badies, never getting killed. So far, it's nothing like as well made as Resident Evil 4, but still a really enjoyable action romp, punctuated with a bit of tedious partner item management.

God, doesn't Gladiator kill you?

It does me. I don't mean in game, but physically, for a smoker, its actually quite hard and i think i might die.

Anyway - i've found move to be very accurate here, and you have to lunge forward as well which the game doesn't quite make clear. I may be wrong but sometimes the players are quite far apart but a lunged swiping hit will sometimes connect.

Where move fails a bit, is when i change stance (yes...i can fight in both) as my arm aches. And you want to sweep from the backhand with the extra power a left facing stance gives you.

Your avatar stays in the same stance. Which feels a bit odd.

But i do like it - like i say, its very accurate as you tell with your sheld.

I'm using the one controller version - none of this two controller nub shit*

Can't wait to play boxing and a decent gold implemetation.

*i'm a cheapskate really.

I bought this today after being interested in the technology for a while and then seeing the overall positive posts in here. I didn't buy any games so I've only got the demos to go on as well as Heavy Rain. Here are my impressions:

Technology - The picture on the camera is not very good at all. used it under natural and bulb lighting and it's grainy and fairly blurry. Well, I guess cheap webcam quality. Nothing like the really crystal clear images I had in my head thanks to the marketing I've been eating up.

The actual controller itself feels good to hold. Not much to say about it since it relies on the software, so:

Dashboard/Store control - I didn't think it was better than the standard controller. It's ok I guess, as in worth using if you are going to play a Move game and weren't going to switch your controller on. I'd never use it instead of a controller if I wanted to navigate around on a normal day though. I was also disappointed there is no special Move functionality on the picture viewer. I thought they had shown all these cool things you could do like stretch the photos and flick them about etc. Maybe you can and I didn't read the instructions, but it wasn't obvious to me at all, and worse still you can't use zoom and other functions which you can use on the controller.

Ping Pong - I thought this was really good and showed the potential of the controller in racket themed games. You seem to have a lot of control over the shots and most, if not all, of the shots I did out of instinct actually game out as I would have expected. I'd have bought this if it was a standalone on the PSN store.

Disc Golf - As above, works really well and actions you make translate well. Not sure I'd buy it, I'd have to play more courses to see if it gets dull quick.

Tumbler - Again, the technology side works perfectly and I was impressed with the accuracy however I found the game extremely dull. I wouldn't stack blocks in real life and I don't get any fun out of it as a game. Maybe for toddlers or something, but to me this is the equivalent of playing with a child's block set. Are people really enjoying playing this? I'm surprised (unless the rest of the game has some sort of puzzle element I'm not getting).

Start the Party - Excellent response from the controller once again. The games though just reminded me of the Eyetoy ones. It's ok I guess, with other people.

Eyetoy Pet (I forgot the name) - I found it quite unresponsive and most of my actions weren't getting translated how I wanted. Could be the lighting in my room or that I didn't have it set up right, but this one felt very vague and not at all like the other games above. Funnily enough this is one of the ones I was most looking forward to due to what I had seen on trailers etc.

Heavy Rain - I only found out that they were patching the original after reading it here and since I wanted to do another playthrough I was quite excited. I didn't patch my game and instead downloaded the demo so that I could have a quick look in the two different scenarios. This was a massive disappointment. The actions were very vague and not intuitive, controlling the characters felt really clumsy and ultimately I felt it didn't add a single positive thing and instead worked to make the game more of a chore to control simple actions. I'll give it another go from the start of the full game but I didn't really get on with this.

The Shoot - Nothing special for me. Average lightgun game really.

That TV Star thing - Pretty much hated every single aspect about it. Just utterly dreadful. I imagine 8 year old girls who love Xfactor will lap this up. It really didn't do anything for me.

So ultimately I'm left with the impression that the technology is capable of great things, however not a single release at the moment is something I would actually get excited about. I may get the sports game or the Party one to have something to play and mess about with the hardware a bit, but that's it. I hate to be the dark cloud in this sunny thread but I'd say that if you don't have £50 to burn then don't bother yet. For me this has basically been and exercise in satisfying my curiosity but could not recommend this to anyone I know. Maybe people with kids I guess.

I think I'm far more excited about the concept and possibilities rather than what's out there. I'm very happy the the technology seems to be as described though. Very impressive. Shame about the camera being so poor though.

That, in one simple post, describes everything I fear from the tech at present.

Picked this up today.

Currys Digital seem to be doing everything at £5 off rrp.

Played around with the demo's and purchased Sports Champion, RE Gold and Eyepet (£6 in HMV, downloading the patch). Seems good and much more responsive than the Wii. Just a quick question...where do you have your camera? top or middle?

I've got my PS Eye on the bottom, but I think I'm going to move it to the top as soon as I can find a way to keep it there without it falling.
