The Playstation Move

How are they planning on doing 'Mario Kart' style driving with Move? I'm guessing it can't really be held side-on like the remote? Maybe one in each hand and then move them like you're holding a wheel?

Well, judging by the turning controls that they use in Tumble, I can actually see them having a proper wheel type thing that you stick the move controller into like a reverse excalibur and then another thing that you stick the second move controller into and use like a gear shift.

And then I woke up and I was chewing on my pillow

I agree with Monkichi. The concern I have with this is that there'll be few dedicated games for it. I imagine it'll mainly be bolt on to regular games. Tbh, this is great for 3rd person games - but why would a developer take the chance of creating dedicated games for this? They're just massively reducing their addressable market. I know a number of PS3 owners - only a few are bothering with Move

See also - M+ for the Wii.

That's exactly it in my case...with a lot of games arriving, the cost is prohibitive. I was very tempted to get the remote in Asda earlier, but then I remembered that I'd need the Eye too...so £27.95 jumped to £47.95...and then there's the nunchuk to get the best out of it, which is another £20. And that's why it's essentially already flopped commercially.

Nintendo couldn't break the bundled Motion Plus to a satisfactory extent, so as anything more than a seldom exploited curiosity, Move never had a chance. I'm still interested, but for it to have had any chance at a breakthrough, at the very least Eye needed to be bundled free of charge or a less clunky alternative (also free) developed and included.

LOL, man, that's one hell of an ego you got there. It's already flopped, because you didn't buy it?

Given that its best retail launch title was the second biggest-selling game in the UK this week (only beaten by Halo: Reach), as well as there being four or five other Move-exclusive or Move-enhanced titles in the charts, I think that assessment is at best a little premature.

No, it's just simple logic. The numbers aren't there to make it a success. The price is all wrong, there's too much of a userbase who'd have to play catch up, it's a near four year old console suddenly trying to ride the coattails of the generation's number one console. For it to be a big success within its target market you're asking to average PS3 owner to spend almost £80 for a couple of remotes and the camera.

There's a big reason for add ons in this industry - expensive or not - almost exclusively failing to reach the mass market. By their nature they're too late and entering a Market already tuned in a particular way. It's not arrogance, merely simple logic. It looks really cool regardless, that's not in doubt.

Yeah, they sold out of the Starter Pack at the ASDA here as well so I can totally understand why you thought you had to buy them all seperately if you didn't see it on the shelf.

Well, of course you're always going to havd an initial boost for a hugely hyped product, but it's forever swimming against a tide of 35m existing PS3 owners. Wii Sports Resort was a huge seller but not even Nintendo treat Motion Plus as anything but an occasional fancy now. Too many Wii owners who didn't bother with the upgrade.

Who actually has used their Navigation thing yet anyway? A dual shock or even sixaxis works fine. Wishing I'd not bought mine now.

Yep, like i said, i reckon the nav controller is a waste of money unless you've got tiny hands. playing with the other end of the pad resting on the lap feels pretty much exactly like holding it with both hands, (except you're not).

to anyone writing that method off, have you even tried holding the DS3 that way or are you just blindly following this strange anti-move propaganda? cos i honestly can't see how it's an issue at all, yet it repeatedly gets brought up as a drawback, a reason why move's too expensive etc (and i've put a good few hours into RE5 like this).

I actually thought it was not going to be so good before I got mine and played the heavy rain demo, ended up working out so well I don't need the navi.

Yeah, well why not? There are plenty here who have already taken the plunge, hell you were considering it yourself for a while. I think you have a very narrow view of what would be considered 'success'.

I wouldn't bother if I were you. Just doesn't feel right with Move (haven't tried it without, but it felt and looked a bit naff, tbh).

As much as I love Zen Pinball, Planet Minigolf just didn't grab me. But I hoped the Move-integration would maybe make it more fun. Seems I'll never find out now, nor need to bother.

Oh, I'm still considering it when there's less other stuff to buy - In fact, I'm fairly sure I will, as I'm having a hard time resisting. I just think it's going to have a very hard time being anything but a nice device used considerably less than its potential, ala Motion Plus.

right chaps...

I thought Tiger Woods for motion plus, while rough around the edges, was a great golf game. In fact, probably the best golf game I'd played. Had real golfers up at the house and they battered me quite categoricaly... so... how does the Move Tiger Woods pan out?

Damn, now I really want Time Crisis...

I do enjoy a good lightgun shooter, but I'm not sure I want Razing Storm to be honest

Compared to classic Time Crisis, and Ghost Squad and House of The Dead Overkill on Wii, the gameplay looks really dull from the videos I've watched. Endlessly emptying machine gun bullets into enemy after enemy, not enough movement from your character and bringing up a shield for protection instead of ducking down for cover. Looks like you get to cause lots of destruction, but not have much fun in the process.

Some people on GAF are raving about the pointer controls in the MAG open beta. Glad to hear confirmation that Move works out well for FPS controls as well as the 1:1 stuff. PS3 just gained the advantage when it comes round to me picking up an HD console.

It's shit because EA tacked on the move controls in such a way that you have to use the pad for most of the shit.

Heavy Rain Move Edition is awkward. You have to learn a complete new lingo in what the various signs mean. Which also work counter-intuitive. A motion controller means holding it upright, while a dot means holding the motion controller level, as the dot is meant to signify the colour-bubble. But when the controller is viewed to see that bubble in that way, it's basically aimed with the front towards you. Combine that with a movement command and my brain starts converting that movement relative to how the icon is viewed.

In other words, seeing a "dot and left" icon, translates in my brain to "move motion controller to the right". And then when you think you've finally got it, it throws a L2+T command at you and you want to scream.

I now know how a casual gamer must feel when presented with the Steel Battalion controller.
