The Playstation Move

Care to elaborate? My kids of 3, 7 & 12 all think it's great and can use it fine. Of course the 3 year old is hardly getting top scores but he has fun waggling!

They're at the top-end of 3 and 6 years old.

The first problem wasn't really related to Move, it was that we had to update the system to a new firmware (3.5) that took around 2 hours to download and install.

Again the second problem wasn't really Move's fault just the fault of the PS3 in general. We couldn't play the demos without installing them to the HDD so we couldn't easily find the games we liked (they take ages to install and I couldn't see an option to install them all).

They picked Sports champion as the first game, so we waited for it to install and when that was finally done we went to the Disc throwing game.

The first problem with Move shows it's face here, the need for constant calibration. My 3 year old couldn't get it calibrated at all, I think we worked out later on after my eldest had a go that the problem was other people visible in the camera at the edges. Once they managed to get it calibrated they couldn't throw the frisbee very well.

They tried the table tennis game but didn't like it as much as Wii Sports. Watching them, the problem was that they weren't playing as if they were holding an actual tennis bat, because they can't don't know how to play table tennis. They were swinging the remote to hit the ball, without taking into account the position of the remote in 3 dimensions. I imagine with more practice they'd pick it up but it just didn't seem to appeal to them.

After that they tried Tiger Woods golf. They found it really hard to swing and hit the ball and just not as enjoyable as Wii Sports Golf. Again, I guess the underlying issue for them is the same as for the previous games.

It's not all doom and gloom though. They're playing Start the Party now and enjoying that a lot more. It's a shame that the camera is such poor quality though. Is it the same resolution as the old Eye Toy camera?

I think in terms of ease of use, it actually suffers from a lot of the problems that Wii Motion Plus has in that it actually makes the games less accessible. I haven't had managed to have a go yet but hopefully these issues won't affect me as much.

Give them Beat Sketcher to have a mess around with as well, they'll probably love that.

It's a pity Tumble doesn't have a 'Knock Shit Over' option because that would get them used to 3D space control and be loads of fun for them :(

EDIT: The calibration works fine with other people around and behind, it's looking for the ball nothing else, just make sure it hits inside the box (on the right if right handed) top, middle and bottom of your image. It takes me less than 2 seconds to do it in Sports Champions.

Are Sony actually trying to market this? The demo pod in Game was pushed so far into one of the rear corners it was impossible for more than one person to play on it! I assume they hope it will be a slow burner and catch on by word of mouth as we approach xmas.

It's been advertised on TV a fair bit. Or at least, I happen to have seen the adverts.

I've not see one yet bizarrely. I don't watch loads of TV but flicking between the channels I do i'd have though i'd have seen something. I was actually surprised when I saw some bloke playing it in game as I had no idea it was out yet. Will be interesting to see how it does against the (apparently much inferior) Kinetic which is being pushed quite heavily in stores.

I picked up sports champions and 2 move controllers yesterday. This thread convinced me to give it a go. Ad I must say I'm glad I did. Table tennis is awesome in that I feel like I'm playing it and my skill level is comparable to my real world ability. Disc golf mind I'm shit just like I'm shit with a real frisbee.

so, is sony re-launching a deluxe kit for the holidays that comes with a pale of dark coloured paint and blinds for your windows? ;)

There's no need, I've found it copes with the sun coming through the windows, with the curtains closed in the day and lights out at night. It's coped excellently in all those conditions so far.

How do you do that when you've got a five year old and a thirty year old trying to play together?

Bought a second Move controller today for Sports Champions. The problem is, you need to be too far away from your TV for it all to work properly (especially for two player Table Tennis), and the second controller seemed to get in the way when I was playing archery. I didn't try the others, but the game just seems a bit dull, in all honesty.

Booted up Start the Party for the first time though, after enjoying the demo and renting it from Lovefilm, and me and the girlfriend have just had a laugh with it; painting each other's face and re-recording each other's name and just generally fucking around with it. You only need the one controller, and it works fine at a short distance. Best launch title as far as I'm concerned. It's inventive, works brilliantly and it's something that's never really been done before. The Sports Champions shite seems to take itself far too seriously, and it's just dull.

I have no idea why you're asking me this question, or what your point is, but you do exactly the same thing as I described no matter how old you are.

The height difference makes it *very* difficult. Which is something that Kinect will have the same problem with, but Wii Motionplus doesn't.

I've given up using two controllers on archery due to the same issue.

Gladiator Duel is the only sport that really benefits from two. Try giving that a good go, I love it, even Edge loves it.

Agreed, they don't seem to have thought too hard about how Move works with a mix of adults and children - a shame.

Edit: -1, really? That bland bit of observation and opinion provoked someone to use one of their valuable neg quota. Extraordinary.

Are you saying this from experience? I play different Sports Champions games standing up or sitting down and there have been no issues so far. Do you mean 2-players at once creating problems, because I haven't heard of this?

Not having a second Move controller and a five year old to hand I can't test this, but I'll be able to in a couple of weeks with 2 players (one sitting, one standing).

Yeah, he's talking about playing it with kids. If I want to play anything with my son, we both have to stand way back, and I have to angle the camera so that my head doesn't appear on the top of the picture. I then have to stoop or kneel down for anything which requires me to hold the controller at around shoulder height.

Well that's a bit skanky then, I never thought that would be an issue. How does motion+ handle it differently?
