That photo really should have been taken in a toilet cubicle.

I used to be an 'invert' but then my brain started to want to invert x too and I had to take drastic measures before the contagion spread too far.

I used to invert both (camera controls, seems most natural to me) until i really wanted to play a game that only allowed invert y, so I forced myself to get used to that and have used it ever since, even though it doesn’t really make any sense at all to invert one and not the other. But I can’t get on with non-inverted y at all despite multiple tries.

Please don't ever fly a plane.

Actually, thinking about it, that's roll not yaw.

Anyway, I find the whole invert/non-invert to be like a person's handedness. It is what it is and all this talk about learning and unlearning should be left in the past.

This is so good… still maintain that the best way to play is with auto aim on and forget about looking up and down.

really satisfying when they all get stuck in a doorway and you mow them all down - or clear out a corridor just by moving side to side

It’s how Dr Doak would’ve wanted it

Does that use a lot of ammo? On the N64 I was very much a one headshot kinda player, it's not so easy on these versions

Real shame the Xbox 360 remaster won't ever see an official release.

Booted it up today to compare them both and while the X360 version is the best looking it lacks the refined controls of the new version.

Trying to play this on the switch, fucking hell I end up running around like a knob firing into the sky. I've tried changing some control settings but just can't get to grips with it. Shame, because I was really looking forward to this.

You need to remap the controls in system settings (you can make a profile just for this game!) and it will be fine, otherwise they are as useful as wheels on a tomato

Check out some of the videos posted a little earlier in this thread.

Ah OK I've followed the instructions in that video and created a Goldeneye controller profile. I assume when I've finished playing I go back to controller and reset each joy con?

Yeah!

Try this? You basically need to switch to the Turok control style, but swap the analogue sticks around in the system settings I think, so left stick functions as right and vice-versa.

Thanks. To be honest, looking at the video, this seems a bit fiddly, and will need resetting back to normal configuration to play other games. Most likely I'll wait for it to be patched(!). Which is admittedly unlikely.

(FWIW, I literally have never played a Switch game with JoyCons undocked more than once – I tried it on launch day upon setting up my original Switch, found them too awkward for me to use, and immediately bought a Pro Controller. When my Switch is in handheld mode, I only play non-action, non-response-based games like Pokemon and Animal Crossing, where using fiddly JoyCons won't be an issue.)

I was apprehensive about destroying good memories of playing this on the N64 around 25 years ago, but as soon as the game started all that apprehension disappeared. The guns still feel great to use and I'd forgotten how much the music "slaps" (to use the youngster's parlance). The objectives still feel fresh in the levels, and the game world still feels believable.

Between this and HiFi Rush, I've had a blissful evening of gaming.

It's incredibly simple, I was skeptical at first but it's easy, as is switching back.

I'm tempted to make more profiles for other games now :)

Sorry but I just can't play this anymore. If I'm honest Goldeneye was never one of my favourites on the N64 but I booted it up on Gamepass for a bit of nostalgia and...I got that but it quickly wore off and I was bored with how empty the levels are and how crap everything looks. It looks and feels every inch a game that's over 2 decades old now.

I got a bit of a nostalgia hit and enjoyed the music which is still banging. But after a couple of levels I really am done. Happy so many people are still able to enjoy it though.

oh come on: there is a bad guy, who is two pixels tall on a 4k screen, who is shooting you from across the map and who you couldn’t predict was there without foreknowledge.

what isn’t there to love?!
