Whoa! I never know this, and I’m not sure what the trigger is, but if you make it to the bottling room either with only a bit of health left, or just in 00 agent difficulty, Bond says to Trevelyan “It was a bit tricky, Alec” instead of “It was too easy, Alec”. :)

Similarly in Control if you take a lot of damage in the first area before going to get Natalya she'll say "James, you're hurt!" instead of "James, you were wonderful!"

Yeah Id not pay for the Xbox or switch emulated versions .  I'll stick with the leaked XBLA remake thanks

I just downloaded it tonight. Very nice compared with this latest official release.

Oof, my 00 agent run has probably come to an end, I don’t think I can get passed bunker 2. The moment you pick up a Kalashnikov and shoot someone they all start coming and don’t stop until you visit every area of the map; this does stop the respawning, but is very hard to do because of all the aforementioned respawning. Hardest level after control room? Possibly.

Same here (using the Xenia emulator) - or at least I tried, but it crashed my computer twice. Like, not just closed the program but actually hard froze the entire PC, made a horrible elongated noise, and rebooted.

I've never known a program do that before, what's going on there? I'm too scared to try it again! :blink2:

Even on Secret Agent I’m having a bit of a hard time getting past Bunker 2. Definitely a tough level.

Played a bit more of this now and it really is super fun. I have only played the first few stages up to now though, on the easiest difficulty, but still.

I had to play the second stage three times because the first time I wasted some of the mines before the end, and the second time I completed the stage without rendezvousing with 006. But it didn’t matter, because each time I got through the stage better/faster than before.

Switched to 1.2 Solitaire now, which is closer to a modern twin stick shooter, but it still has that excellent loose gun waving which makes it feel more like a platformer.

I did Bunker 2! But now Train is kicking my ass very hard. Natalya doesn’t want to crack the password until about 5 seconds before the train blows up, and she can’t get off in time. I’ve watched a couple of videos and she starts her canned animations sooner than in my playthrough. I wonder if there’s any way to influence how quickly she starts.

Hmm, not had any problem like that. Probably the usual PC related fun with hardware and software conflicts.

IMO the best way to play this game is to blast through it all on Agent mode, then again on Secret Agent, then once more on 00 Agent.

Having an idea of the level layout from the Agent run really adds to the fun of the extended objectives in the later modes.

You can step into the room and line up a shot to hit Ourumov and Xenia in a burst of fire. It'll give you about 30s more time for her to crack the password.

As a PlayStation owner in the 90s, we had plenty of good stuff that N64 owners would have been envious of, but we never had anything close to Super Mario 64 and GoldenEye.

You were always looking for something that would come close to these two games. I was super excited to play Medal of Honor back in the day, as it looked vaguely GoldenEye-ish, and I do remember loving it at the time:

Yeah, that's my plan. The more forgiving nature of Agent allows you to explore and nail the basic objective. The next time through, that's a lot of mental space freed up for not getting killed.

Also, you can practice doing the harder-mode objectives in easy. All the stuff's there to be picked up / thrown / whatever.
(Can't do that in Perfect Dark - it changes the level layouts based on chosen difficulty)

Am I missing something?  Where is the save option?  I assumed it would auto-save, played a few levels, went back and it looks like I need to start over

It saves normally for me on Xbox. On Switch I used emulator save states like I do on the other N64 games.

Annoyingly, you can’t seem to make a twin stick setup work on Switch unless you use an N64 pad. I’m trying to play handheld at the moment, but the left stick is the joystick and the right stick is the C-buttons. Need to be able to switch them for Solitaire to work.

You need to follow this video, then you can do it. You basically set up a specific controller profile for the game:

Definitely not pointless! I watched this video which explains how to set up the controls in a couple of minutes.

Isn’t it!

There’s a written version too:

Quote

In the Switch menu:

Create a control profile for Goldeneye

Remap the left analog stick to function as right analog

Remap the right analog stick to function as left analog

Remap ZR button to function as ZL, so you can fire with ZR

Remap ZL to function as L, so you can manual aim with ZL

(Optional) remap L to function as B, so you can activate things with L.

(Optional) remap R to function as A, so you can switch weapons with R.

(You will now have to navigate using the right analog stick and either A/B or L/R, depending on whether you followed steps 6 and 7.)

Launch Goldeneye and begin a mission, navigating menus with the right analog stick.

Pause, and go over to controls.

Switch from 1.1 Honey to 1.2 Solitaire.

Go over to Settings, and turn the Look Up/Down setting to Upright.

You will now have modern controls! Only issue is that you will only be able to walk in 8 directions, since the stick only emulates the C buttons.

If you aim and single tap fire to fire 1 or 2 bullets the sound does not alert other guards that cannot see the one being shot. A burst of 3 bullets from the KF7 will alert other guards and start the infinite guard spawns.

Clear the roaming guards by luring them and killing them one by one, ideally with the knives but guns can work too. Once they are clear you can clear the rooms & get your silenced PP7s back. Level is still a pain as its a bit of a difficulty spike with a slightly different way of playing to previous ones.

On a Pro controller, press -

On an N64 controller, press ZR

That gives you a menu with Load Suspend Point, Create Suspend Point

Sorry, forgot to say I'm referring to the Xbox version.

I didn’t do anything fancy on Xbox, it should just save automatically as you expect, when you finish a level. Must have been a bug for you. Sadly I can’t complete a new level to confirm as I’m stuck on Control but when I fire up the game I can see all my unlocked stuff. You can’t save mid-level but Quick Resume works fine.
