A very good day. Finally managed to gold all the Extreme levels, as well as knock meatball down to 2nd on my friends list for Inferno II. New record is looking pretty spiffy with a time of 2:24 and 5 faults.

Massively chuffed with myself.

Awww, what did you have to go and do that for

Well done though :)

I'm trying to perfect my skills on the Marathon tracks at the moment though, so I won't attemp to get the top spot back just yet. Battered a few of my previous times on those tracks too.

From reading the official Trials forum it sounds like they won't be making the Marathon achievement easier, thankfully.

I had another epic session the other day on Trials. Tried getting golds on the Hard levels - so, so frustrating! I did eventually get Silvers on them all though. I've found the best way to avoid going mad, is that if you keep getting stuck at one bit and start getting wound up, just quit the level and try something new.

On the first hill of King of the Hill, which I used to get stuck for ages on, I've found that the best way for me is to use the whole of the slope, rolling back to the bottom if you mess up. The extra speed really helps.

I tried my current nemesis, "Going Up" on Extreme again. Damn that level is frustrating. The bit I used to find nearly impossible was the bit with the train rails. However I've found a good technique for getting past that bit - throw your weight forward at just the right moment as you are about to go up the first rail - this gives you the extra momentum you need to get onto the second part. Then you can cry as the next bits are evil. I once again hit a brick wall after the "go in reverse" section, at the part where you have a set of shallow ramps followed by a crate sticking straight up. It's so hard to get onto the crate, I managed to get my back wheel on it a few times but kept falling back off again - argh! I only had 5 mins in which to try it as well. I timed out and then watched some of the videos of top players - even they struggle at this bit! Then, after that section, there appears to be 4 or 5 really hard uphill sections again - wtf! This level is so hard!

Then I tried the next Extreme level for the first time: Groundhog Fever. In comparison to Going Up, this is easy. That's to say it's evil, but much shorter than Going Up. Give it a go if Going Up is giving you trouble. I managed to finish it, the hardest bit is probably the jump over explosives near the start with a raised platform in the middle of the jump.

Then I tried Inferno II to see why everyone on the forum cries about it. Yep, it's pretty bad, though the first sections aren't as bad as I was expecting. The notorious _ / / section everyone's been talking about, I found the best technique is, on the first /, keep the throttle open a bit, and let yourself roll down to the bottom of it. Then power it all the way up the ramp, and reangle yourself in the air for the steep ramp. This should give you enough speed to hit that ramp at an angle where you can get the bite to stay stable. Then repeat the process on the steep ramp to clear the gap after it. I then got stumped at the steep hill afterwards - I have no idea how to get the momentum to get my back wheel over the big bump. One to return to another day.

So frustrating, but so satisfying. I hate/love this game.

I pegged off Goin' Up and Groundhog Forever this morning. Much bodily leaning and curseword-uttering was had. Tried Inferno II, the last level I need to get a medal on, got to the part with the single swinging hammer across a devilish gap, ended up pressing back at one point instead of B and..

Well, let's just say I'll come back to this one at a later date.

I'd put £20 on no-one from this forum ever doing it. It includes the majority of the medium and hardest hard tracks. You'd have to be a stealth ninja to do it with no faults. That is 40g nobody will ever get.

20 crisp pounds. It'd be the least you deserved but my money is safe.

I read the forums most days but hardly ever post - do I qualify if I do it? :-):-)

Made 3rd place on Ultimate Endurance today with 2 faults. 1st one was really silly on "Smooth Jumps" - just lost my concentration and then the 2nd was on "King of the Hill" in the annoying bit where you have to go up the boxes and backflip to the level above. I now know this achievement is definately doable, rather than just believing I could when I was doing 20-30 faults. But it could take time getting from 2 to 0 - the pressure if I reached King of the Hill with no faults would make it even harder than it already is. Part of me says quit now, but then I'm so so close!

Amazing game.

Ok so after deleting this piece of crap from my HD in a fit of disgust/rage the other day, I caved and re-downloaded it and have now managed to get golds on everything up to the end of Medium.

I think the most frustrating thing about this game is seeing your friends positions on the meter at the top of the screen, and seeing them constantly whizzing off in front of me, and then seeing their times on the leaderboards and not being able to get anywhere near them!

I really wish you could turn them off. In fact, if I was playing this game in complete isolation, unaware of anyone else's time I think it would be much less stressful.

Don't worry about beating friends yet. Get all the Golds 1st then try and beat scores.

there only seem to be three rider positions in the 360 version

the terrible camera angle in the 360 one dont help though - why is there not a fixed side-on view?

Not sure about the positions, agreed on the camera, but I was mainly referring to the excellent analogue controls on the triggers. Keyboard controls just can't match up, but then the new level designs will surely be a factor as well.

arrrgh this level on extreme/hardcore whatever the fuck its called is so hard, going up? i think it may be called.. this one section is the only part to cause me so many problems on this track or perhaps the entire game.

hard to describe it but FUCK it's annoying

and i've just turned it off, fuck it.

hm.. it was not a very steep ramp with a box on it (probably 2 boxes together) that i just can't get the back wheel up onto, but watching through someone doing a perfect run on the replay on the leaderboards makes me think there's more problematic moments in store after that even if i had of succeeded

It's a fucker all right. It's a back, forward, back box and I realised that, when I was trying it, I was neglecting the final back in favour of holding forward (thinking this would get my rear wheel up).

I had much better success on that bit when I just tapped forward and held the subsquent back for a bit longer than felt natural. If you get the body of your bike up, your back wheel will then go flying up over you, so it's important to lean back and lose all that forward flip momentum.

Bloody hell. This is just one of those games I can't stop playing just a little more of. Getting to the point where I start considering that maybe I could gold the hard tracks and just now where all the Extreme tracks are gold, is such a great feeling. It's such a rewarding game.

I find it a little annoying though that the championships end up being the most annoying thing. I just can't get anywhere near the gold times on those. I'll have 2 tracks left to race and am already over the time. It feels a little unfair TBH.

I was sitting trying to get gold's on the last couple of Hard tracks last night and I can honestly swear to God had one of the game designers been in the room I'd have genuinely feared for his safety.

Never in my life have a played a game so compulsively and completely despised it. The frustration overwhelms any feeling of elation I get completing a track but I HAVE to move straight onto the next one.

Bastard thing.

Links! My old PES nemesis! I wondered who NickR was. Completely forgot. You have a few awesome scores/times.

Does anyone else have problems with some of the replays? This may have been noted earlier in the thread but I've not read the whole thing. It appears that they think they have deterministic physics when they, erm, don't. Or are people cheating?
