The Walking Dead!

The Sarge

I really enjoyed that. More than a couple of times it went the other way than expectations would have you think it was going to go. Lincoln seems fine so far too. Practical zombie effects looked great and I liked the way there wasn't a massive "and here's what happened" when he was talking to the guy and his son. In fact, he didn't even ask how it all came about - much better to just see the aftermath of it all.

My only gripe, and it's a very, very tiny one -

How did Lincoln stay alive for over a month, with no one attending him? The guy and his son mentioned either his wife had turned a month ago or they'd come to that house a month ago. So surely that means Lincoln was in that coma for at least six weeks?

Roll on episode 2.

I loved the bit in the park

when he followed the slime trail of the Return Of The Living Dead's half-zombie through the park and apologised for its circumstance before putting it out of its misery.

And Zombie wife's bird-like twitching through the peep-hole was pretty creepy.

I loved all of it actually, it was a fantastic start and as a big fan of the comics I am hugely relieved.

Who's to say

how long he was actually unattended? The hospital clearly functioned to some extent during the outbreak.

Yeah, it's implied he's the last patient, so it follows he was probably treated by the last remaining doctor as long as possible. I liked the gurney pushed across the door of his room, probably the only thing that kept him from being zombie chow along with everyone else. He had a drip as well, I think?

Just watched it too, and I thought it was absolutely fantastic. Proper big-scale stuff, like only the Americans can do. Looked absolutely mega-budget, great performances, lovely sparse use of music (we can argue about the ending here, but the long periods of silence in the rest of the episode were great, and very unusual for television), and the writing was very good.

Which came first, by the way: the comic, or 28 Days Later?

I've got this set to record the whole series. The problem is, Mrs neoELITE won't watch anything with zombies - even Pet Semetary. I've told her that, although it's called The Walking Dead, it's more about the living battling for survival in a World that has simply ceased in terms of normal civilisation. She isn't going to like it is she?

I've not watched an entire US series on TV since Twin Peaks

First issue was written in 1999, before 28 days later released, but wasn't published until after 28 days later released. Besides, the two are wildly different after the opening scenes.

Agree about the music, though there's so little of it that Bear McReary is doing this right now:

Quite enjoyed it, even though the first 30 mins was like watching 28 Days Later.

My only thing with most of the episode was that i had seen it all before in all the other zombie films i have seen. Im hoping it will be different, the ending offered hope of this.
