The Illusionist

Belleville Rendez-Vous seems so long ago so it is nice to finally see that his follow up is nearing it's release. The Illusionist is an adaptation of original and previously unproduced material by Jacques Tati that Chomet began working on back in 2006.

With a budget of $22m (almost triple that of Belleville Rendez-vous) the film fuses traditional 2-D character techniques and CGI.

It details the story of a dying breed of stage entertainer whose thunder is being stolen by emerging rock stars. Forced to accept increasingly obscure assignments in fringe theaters, garden parties and bars, he meets a young fan who changes his life forever.

No release date (or trailer :() but hopefully it will get a cinema debut before the year is out.

I don't mind the silence so much as I worry about the pacing. As much as I love certain aspects about Bellville Rendez-Vous, I found the film as a whole really boring to watch - the rhythm of the pacing was just so off.

I like this a lot so far though, in trailer format at least.
