Michael - I think we could definitely do with a woman's touch. I'm also between jobs.

Call me Mr. Obsessive but I've spent the last 2 weeks watching old recordings on DVD and I'm still consistently getting the answers before the contestants - especially in the round of 16 before the quarter finals (though I guess it could be some kind of subliminal memory.)

OK, so we have SeanR, TimR (are you guys brothers?) and me... anyone else? My wife (who is pretty bloody good at OC) is interested, plus she's killer on Missing Vowels.

No worries on dates, I am an unemployed bum.

I reckon having a good missing vowel player would be major plus point. Seen a few games won thanks to that round.

Head's up that this is on on Monday 19 March at 8:30 for a Comic Relief special.

Author Nick Hornby, actor Mark Gatiss and journalist Samira Ahmed compete against broadcaster Ian Hislop, Dirk Gently star Stephen Mangan and columnist Allison Pearson in a charity edition of the lateral thinking quiz, presented by Victoria Coren. Among the clues in need of linking are a dead sheep and a semi-domesticated polecat.

If only Doug Stanhope was there to ask questions of Allison Pearson.

"What is the connection between vile insensitivity, a gross misrepresentation, a complete u-turn on previous principles and overeacting when called upon your own hypocrisy?"

"Er..., is the answer 'my last article'?"

I didn't know where else to put this but OH GOD OH GOD. Take that Charlie Brooker and Konnie Huq, you're no longer the coolest comedy/presenting TV couple.

The notice in today's Times' register of births, marriages and deaths lists "Mr D.J.S. Mitchell and Miss V.E. Coren" in the Forthcoming Marriages section.

I love everything about this.

She used to edit an adult magazine and as a side project, she and a co-worker decided to make a porn film (not starring them, alas) because they weren't impressed with the ones they were seeing as part of their job. IIRC, they wrote a book about the production too.

Edit:

Her books include Love 16[4] and Once More, with Feeling,[5] about her attempt (with co-author Charlie Skelton) to make the best hardcore porn movie ever. This came off the back of their jobs reviewing porn films for the Erotic Review—a job which led them to believe that most of what they were watching was terrible and that they could make better films themselves.

That's true, but I guess it also depends on the range of culture you're exposed to. I've never watched TOWIE (and never intend to), but I know what a vajazzle is via comedy panel shows and such like where they've occasionally featured members of the "cast".

I'm in my 40s, so knew about Iran-Contra, although, if I'm honest, it's probably more via the likes of Spitting Image than becasue I took a keen interest in current affairs as a teenager. Similarly, I know of the Profumo Affair via the film Scandal (and associated Pet Shop Boys song). No clue what the XYZ or Lillehammer things were though.
