2009 Purchases

Suffice to say I've worked out that if I buy everything I consider essential (pending review scores) between now and the end of the year, it's going to set me back around £500 based on pre-order prices. Admittedly, this might seem a small amount compared to some of you dorks, but I may feel the need to add many inessential titles as well.

After the ridiculous situation of last year when games were going down to half price a week after release, I'd like to think that I'll have the sense to hold off pre-orders this time, but I won't. And of course I'll end up playing barely any of them till well into next year. Stupid fucking hobby.

Now, 2010 looks swell...ME2, Dragon Age for starters, and I'm kind of hoping Crysis 2 comes out as well...Oh, and FFXIII...lots of stuff to look forward to!

Dragon Age is this year.

As far as I'm concerned this year is even better than last, with the big hitters of Beatles RB, Operation Flashpoint 2, Brutal Legend, Borderlands, Modern Warfare 2, Halo ODST, Forza 3, Left 4 Dead 2, Uncharted 2 and New Super Mario Brothers Wii, backed up by some really good looking other games. I'm certainly glad a lot was moved to get away from MW2.

I pretty sure I'm the only person on the planet not interested in the slightest in Halo: ADHD and MW2

The former is the last game I'd want to play this Autumn and the latter is only appealing to me because the hype will make it impossible to resist if Asda do it for under £30 on the opening weekend.

Pretty sure on release:

Modern Warfare 2 (360)

Assassins Creed 2 (360)

Halo ODST (360)

Forza 3 (360)

Uncharted 2 (PS3*)

Gran Turismo 5 (PS3*)

Who knows, if they turn out really well (ie undecided yet):

WET

Brutal Legend

Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising

Probably in the sales:

Colin McRae: Dirt 2 (360)

Left 4 Dead 2 (360)

Ghostbusters (360)

Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time (PS3*)

* I don't own a PS3 yet so that's another investment likely to be made this year.

Some nice games lined up, but nothing overly spectacular unfortunately.

Only three games that I'm going to definitely, definitely get: -

* Modern Warfare 2

* Mass Effect 2

* Brutal Legend

Because I know they're going to get good. It's as clear as day. But it bring up a problem I have with people's long lists. How do you know they're going to be any good. Why are you buying games before you know if they're any good?

I don't want to get into negativity, but I have to for the sake of all your bank balances...

Does no one remember Assassin's Creed 1? Why are you banking £40 notes on release day that it's going to be better?

WETs demo was hardly impressive but that's been popping up a lot. I think I can give this a miss for first day (and every day)

Halo may end up being more of the same (I should read up on the early french version, all I've heard so far is that levels look uninspired)

Operation Flashpoint 2 could go either way

and why are people getting Forza and Gran Turismo (and Supercar Challenge). Surely you can do one at a time?

...and DIRT 2 and NFS and Split Second and god knows what else ...how much driving can you do at once?

NFS: Shift

FIFA 10 (Bye Fifa 09)

Forza 3 (Bye Forza 2)

Maybe:

NBA 10

NHL 10 (Bye NHL 09)

Have you played the demo? I thought it was terrible. Something about it just feels like it's been knocked together without much thought.

You can tell from the off when you make your profile because the hand is defaulted to left because it'll have been listed "left, right" in the array rather than think that it's more likely that someone will be right-handed (and not used to having to check the default)

More Halo is something I don't mind, but this one is set out differently (its hub based), has a slightly different angle (slightly more stealthy) and has a new co-op multiplayer mode in Firefight that is basically Horde for Halo (a good thing).

As for OF2, its looking good, has good previews and is different to all the other console shooters out there, it might be a bit of a gamble, but I doubt it'll turn out to be crap.

The racers I want (DIRT 2, NFS Shift, Forza 3 and perhaps Blur) all occupy slightly different places in the market, the first 3 are all looking good and the last will depend on reviews (though I'm more optimistic about it than others), I have no doubt I'll find them all varied enough to be playing them this close to one another.

Oh and Assassins Creed 2 is looking a lot better than the original by the way, it seems they've taken criticism onboard and its going to be much more varied, the only reason I haven't got it down myself at the moment is because of the vast amounts of other games, if it gets stella reviews (which it might) then no doubt it'll be another one I get.

Yep, played the demo plenty of times. It is on the default settings, which I always change about anyway. It has improved the areas I wanted it to, so it is an instant purchase for me.

Already got Beatles: Rock Band solus on pre-order.

Definitely getting ODST (but mainly for the single-player.)

And Modern Warfare 2 (again, for single-player stuff.)

I'll probably get talked into buying Left 4 Dead 2 by friends, so I don't have much choice there.

DJ Hero looks very tempting, despite the pricetag.

For the PSP, Gran Turismo, and maybe LBP, and maybe maybe Dissidia.

There's no way I'm deciding my 2009 purchases yet, they could all be shit. Plus, if I pump my money into pre-orders 2009's 'Dead Space' might sneak upon us and I won't have the money to buy it.

See - Batman : AA.

It's amazing and I did not give a shit about it, until the demo came out. Then i was "interested"

Reviews/impressions came in; I decided to lay down the bones... and it just sooo awesome.

10 games on my shopto pre-order list -

ODST.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.

Operation Flashpoint 2.

Uncharted 2.

Brutal Legend.

Forza 3.

Tekken 6.

Borderlands.

Modern Warfare 2.

Left 4 Dead 2.

Only ODST, Uncharted 2, Forza 3, MW2 and L4D2 are 100% definite. I will sell my balls to play those games.

The rest...are pre-ordered, but i might dump the pre-order literally a day before dispatch...if the word on the grapevine is that they suck, or I just don't have enough time/money.

These will all be purchased when they go under £20 (so January sales for most I spose) apart from Super Mario Bros and Zelda which will be pre-ordered...

360

Halo ODST

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City

Modern Warfare 2

Wii

New Super Mario Brothers Wii

Metroid Prime Trilogy

DS

Professor Layton and Pandoras Box

Mario and Luigi RPG 3: Bowsers Inside Story

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks

Much like last year I'll wait until closer to Christmas to pick-up any titles from now-on in as I still have enough to keep me going, so no pre-orders for me.

As for things I'm interested in (though will be dependent on reviews and opinions in many cases):

Alpha Protocol

Risen

Dragon Age

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2

Operation Flashpoint 2

FIFA 10

Borderlands

MW2

For me, that list is pretty barren - I'd doubt any will be a day-1 purchase, unless Asda have them on offer or there is an amazing deal happening. I certainly don't have the same sort of excitement going into this Winter's releases as I have done previously. But there's still plenty of goodness around, and as has been mentioned, the early part of 2010 is looking bright.
