Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition

Let me ask - the gold edition, does it contain the original re3 as well as all the new content or just the new content and I need to buy the original game too? (ps3)

As far as i'm aware, on the 360, the Gold edition features the original RE5 game disk plus DLC codes to download ALL the additional content.

Which is kinda shit. I would of liked them on a second installable disk much like Fallout 3 DLC.

The PS3 version has all the content on one Blu ray.

I downloaded both of these episodes yesterday and played through them. Lost In Nightmares reminded me of the first Resi (or rather REmake given it was awash with German Expressionist shade and light) - the atmosphere was claustrophobic and the use of sound

particularly at the very beginning when you hear the dogs as you go through the corridor with the windows

smelt of Dead Space :( I have just one complaint - it was far too short. It certainly made me want a high def, current gen remake of REmake with the new control system; I loved the little touches

Beethoven's Sonata no. 14, the close up of opening doors as you entered a different room, the back tracking to solve the puzzles and Jill reminding me she was the "master of unlocking"

. One complaint though was it was a little short and the ending

felt like I was just aimlessly slashing with a knife at thin air and trying to avoid getting hit by Wesker.

It was worth the 400 points download though as I felt it hinted that Capcom can still capture that original Resi sense of being alone (OK, there's still co-op but there were sections of co-op throughout the series) and being vastly under armed and being scared. The other stuff added on is OK but all it is really is

some crap figures and a Barry Burton headbutt - I remember Barry being far more ginger on the PS1.

Desperate Escape was the better of the two for me as it was full on action from start to finish - I got two achievements, kill 150 enemies and completion but was pretty annoyed that I took too long and therefore missed out on an S rank. The final set peice was brilliant

although I was so overloaded with ammo and guns that I had to discard a weapon half way through - the waves and waves of enemies were brilliant fun - it felt like co-op Mercs. The red minigun manjini turned up at the end in a cut scene but I was just stood in a cargo conatiner near the middle of the map and he didn't appear and what was the rpg for? The minigun manjinis are too easy to avoid and kill - it'd been far more fun if a dual chainsaw weilding giant manjini turned up - like the ganado in the island mercs stage on Resi 4

- for 400 points though, Desperate Escape was outstanding and I'm not surprised it's getting great reviews.

Question: Me and a friendly friend are thinking of picking this up. However, we both own a 360 and a PS3 and we were wondering which version is superior if at all? My vote goes towards the 360 version because of my fondness towards Achievements and XBL but are there any visual differences between the two?

The advantage with the PS3 version is having everything on the disc instead of having to download the episodes to a hard drive. I'm still leaning towards the 360 version, though, just for easier online co-op and mics.

Weird thing is that Play/Shopto etc don't seem to be selling the gold edition at all.

Resident Evil 5 (Lost in Nightmares) Unlockable: Old-School Resident Evil Mode

At the very beginning of the game, turn around and activate the prompt at the front door. Do this three times and on the third time a ? will appear. Activate this and the game will switch to tank controlled, fixed-camera "classic mode!"

Is this true? :)

I'm officially not that stupid as I had set the untold stories bundle for download and I assumed it had downloaded fully as my 360 had downloaded the just cause 2 demo I set it to download afterwards and I assumed content would be downloaded in sequence. I checked the untold stories download and it was at 96% so the something must of interupted the download once I downloaded the 4% I got the option for extra content. So semi stupid only.

Sorry :)

I once put the Sega Saturn port of Dead or Alive in my Xbox thinking it was the main game (the Xbox game came with this as a bonus disc) and thought it was graphically horrendous and didn't understand how it had got rave reviews;my comment to a friend was - the characters feet are square and the backgrounds are white! I was disgusted until someone pointed me towards the other disc with the actual Xbox game on it which was actually amazing :hmm:

I'm playing through Resi 5 again and I must admit, the boss fights are rubbish. I'd forgotten how bad the giant spider fight is and the Excella fight is tedious.

  • 2 weeks later...

Bought the RE 5: Gold Edition for my PS3 today. Anyone know at which point in the game you get to play Lost in Nightmares and Desperate Escape?

The manual just says that some part of RE 5 needs to be completed in order for it to become available.
