Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition

So basically, it's gonna be a reworking like Resi 4 Wii Edition? That was brilliant, made better by the new controls. Resi 5 is still a decent game (although not as amazing as 4), but with new controls and in HD it'll be awesome.

;)

If you think there's no money changing hands between Sony and Capcom to have a major franchise associated with they new controller then I think you're being a tad naive.

This is it. This is the ultimate in RLLMUK-quotage. Absolute batshit fucking stupid in every fucking way.

"Oh! Capcom are re-releasing RE0 for the Wii! MONEYHATS AIJSIOJSDOIASOaskjajadjoiwjadjiadwjadw" fuck

Yea, I phrased that a bit weird. What I meant was, it'll be like playing a HD version of RE4 Wii Edition.

I think you're missing a step here: Wii RE4 was brilliant because RE4 was already brilliant. What we got was a version of an already brilliant game with even better controls.* RE5 however, is average at best.** What we will get is an average game with better controls, which would still make it an average game.

*I prefer the GC controls tbh, but that's not the point here

**I thought it was utterly crap myself, but for the sake of argument let's call it 'average at best'. Can't say fairer than that.

So you can categorically state that there will be no funding / preferential royalty rate for Capcom to rework Resident Evil 5 exclusively for Sony's motion controller when the likelihood is that in the short term uptake will be extremely limited due to the lack of hardware adoption? No you cannot, so kindly take your histrionics elsewhere.

More info about the content...

As the biggest change from the original Resident Evil 5, Alternative Edition will feature game controls that make use of Sony's recently announced Motion controller. For series fans, another big change is the addition of a new episode featuring Chris and Jill. The episode will be based on the flashback scene from the original RE5, where the two characters infiltrate the Spencer estate in Europe.

"It was a key incident in Resident Evil 5, but it was only there as a flashback scene," Miho said. "In Alternative Edition, you'll actually be able to play through it. We had a lot of requests from fans about it."

Also coming to 360. (probably)

Capcom hinted that an Xbox 360 edition of the game is also planned. "In regards to the Xbox 360, a lot of fans have enjoyed the game on the console. So we are working to release the additional content in another format, as a product." Project lead Miho Suzuki did not mention if the title was one of the Project Natal games which Capcom is currently developing.

I always thought there was some nunchuck style attachment for this coming. Using a dual shock? God, I have that's a temporary measure. I was well excited about the motion controller and now it seems heavily limited in it not even having the capability to emulate the wii set up at the least. Imagine the wii come out with just the wand and you had to use a classic/gc pad to finish the setup?

Everyone keeps banging on about this and although I agree its not ideal I dont think its the travesty its being made out to be. The dualshock pad is pretty lightweight and I've held it in one hand enough times (while on the phone to someone) to be under the impression that it would be ok in conjunction with the wand. I may be wrong but im willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.

As for Resi 5 itself it cant hold a candle to 4 obviously but I thought it was ok (my main gripe is how it seems to have sacrificed single play to ensure it could be properly co-op throughout which is a trend thats really doing my nut in these days).

It's a controller designed for two hands being used in one. It's not ideal no matter how many times you've personally used it solo handish or how light you find it.

I didnt say it was in any way ideal did I? Quite the opposite I said I agreed it wasnt ideal but that I was prepared to make do based on limited personal experience of holding it in a single hand.

(and like I said before I could be proved wrong on having to sustain the use of a two handed pad with one hand when I end up playing in this fashion)

Update

RE5 Alternative Edition combines the original RE5 with motion controls and a new gameplay episode. It also includes all the download content that has been released until now.

The motion controls are handled through Sony's new motion controller, which is currently unnamed. During Sony's TGS briefing, staff members controlled movement with the Dual Shock and aiming with the motion controller. It's also possible to play just with the Dual Shock.

In addition to using the motion controller for aiming, you'll use it to swing your knife and perform other such actions. Famitsu also says to expect additional new combat elements that one might expect from a motion controller.

The new episode pairs RE5 hero Chris Redfield with classic RE series character Jill Valentine for a scenario that's set three years prior to the events of 5.

A trailer shown at the Tokyo Game Show left some believing that the mansion that serves as the setting for the new episode was the mansion from the original Resident Evil. It's actually different from that. The mansion you'll be playing through appeared in a flashback scene in RE5.

Producer Jun Takeuchi shared a few additional details on the new episode with Famitsu. The episode was originally planned as part of the main RE5 release. However, during development it was decided that it didn't quite fit in with the flow of the rest of the game.

Because the development team believed fans would love a chance to play as Jill, they considered offering the episode as download content. However, it ended up being too large to be offered as a download, leading to the retail release.

The new episode will not actually be a part of the main game. Players will have to select it as a separate mode from the game's title screen.

You can expect a two hour play experience from the new episode. In terms of content, Takeuchi said the taste is more horror than the rest of RE5.

Aside from the motion controls, the new episode offers a similar play experience to the rest of RE5, with Jill taking over for Sheva. The game can be played cooperatively online and offline.

Cooperative play is actually compatible with the original, so owners of RE5 Alternative Edition can engage in multiplayer play with owners of the original. Takeuchi would not rule out being able to play the new episode between the two versions. Despite what Takeuchi said about download sizes, this seems to suggest download content for current RE5 owners. Or perhaps Capcom will stage some sort of trade in program?

For those who upgrade to the new version, Takeuchi confirmed that save data and trophy data will carry over.

Takeuchi also confirmed something that he said during a stage event at TGS. Xbox 360 owners can look forward to the content in a different form. He said to expect details in a future update.
