Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition

They appear in different locations and in greater numbers depending on the difficulty. On Veteran it's real easy to run out of ammo if you shoot at them willy-nilly.

I imagine Pro will be more about running away, rather than taking 'em on.

Well my girlfriend and I went for the taking them out route for pro no need to run away.

OMG i love Excella on Mercs Reunion. ;)

She has a personal move called 'Humiliate' - when you shoot an enemy in the legs and they go down on one knee, you press 'X', she then grabs them by the ear with one hand, does a fantastic (almost orgasmic) moan, then bitch-slaps their head clean off with a wicked back-hand!

I like her injection one too. Barry`s headbutt though!! Amazing. I`m looking forward to trying out that camera trick

any news on the one out this week? is it longer (i heard 2-3 hours long?)

If GAF is anything to go by, it's not longer. It's more action packed and apparently pretty damn good.

Desperate Escape is a little shorter, but much, much, MUCH heavier on action and challenge.
Just beat Desperate Escape. Now THAT was awesome!

Lost in Nightmares is RE1 fanservice, but Desperate Escape is RE4 fanservice.

I played through Lost In Nightmares with a friend and thought it was fun...there just wasn't enough to do. You only kill like 6 enemies (on Normal) and half of those aren't even with guns. And the final Wesker fight is just as shit as the Wesker fights in RE5. To me it just felt like Capcom were showing us that they could make another decent atmospheric survival horror game if they wanted to...but they can't really be bothered for more than an hour.

It's made me play Mercenaries again though and I'm not sure why I ever stopped. It's awesome.

LiN is all about the atmosphere and I really think it nailed that. Loved the

piano

bit. Using the environment to kill off enemies was good fun as well, but then again, almost anything is fun in co-op. Not that fond of the new enemy type and the boss fight, but good value for money. And it's certainly a decent challenge on higher difficulties.

This is so bloody good. I must have played throught it about 15 times this weekend. Perfect balance of running around after passwords and shooting the crap out of things. You get a co-op partner who know's what they are doing, and it can be finished in about 20 minutes.

Now, to find all those emblems...

Haven't played RE5 yet. What's the best course of action - cheap (£15 or so) copy of the first version then buy the DLC or wait for the Gold Edition?

personally id buy it cheap (ive seen it for 10 quid some places) and just buy the dlc as the max it will cost is another 10 quid. The gold edition for the 360 only includes DLC tokens anyway.

if your getting a ps3 one, get the gold edition.

Why are you even asking that?

I thought the Gold Edition might include stuff you couldn't download. It didn't seem to from what I'd read, but I thought it was worth checking.

Nah, I'll go with the 360 version. Cheers.

I've been waiting for it cheap, as my net connection's so rubbish I doubt I'll be able to co-op it, so I'll be playing solo.

How crap is your net connection, because mine just gets to 1.25Mbps and I had no trouble playing coop online. Which is important to note since RE5 doesn't have a single player...

After midnight it's about 6meg, but struggles to get 450k during the evenings when I can actually play games.

Resident Evil 5's single player gets such an unnecessarily harsh beating. It's a solid game and good fun (a couple of duff notes aside). Granted, it's nowhere near as good as Resi 4 -- but as long as you're aware of that going in you'll have a good time I'm sure.

That's not to say that you won't have loads more fun with it in co-op if you can manage it. It definitely adds a huge amount to the game so I'd at least try and get it going if I were you. I'd be happy to have a blast through it with you at some point if you're in need of a co-op partner.

Just did Lost In Nightmares with a friend after finally organizing myself a bit of Gold. Loved it, every second. One thing I really did like though was the slightly more zoomed-out viewpoint, which aside from obviously providing a better view of the environment also took it easier on the motion sickness.

It feels like not only a nod to past Resis, but a testing of the water with regard to what the audience want from the series going forward. Unanimous praise suggests we want a return to the spookier side of things.

I picked up RE5 (steelbook le) for £10 in Gamestation at the weekend, and downloaded Lost in Nightmares.

It's brilliant, took me about 90 minutes on Saturday Night and I too loved every second. Mercenaries Reunion is a sooooo addictive too. Started playing the main RE5 game yesterday and really having a lot of fun with it too, should've picked it up a year ago.
