Please try your best to make it, I'm sticking you up front if you're about.

Anyway, lads. Assuming 'Bob' is Nathan and that Donk hasn't filled in the Doodle but will be available anyway, we'll set up as follows. Back four/five will stay the same, Hannay will control the wingers, Nath will be Gerrard and Chris and Pompey up front.

Nath, I'll need you to make sure you're staying in midfield and not just playing as a third striker. We need the midfield to be in midfield etc. Everyone else is pretty much spot on and I'll point things out tonight as I see them.

Let's have them tonight, lads!

Well played on the whole but we're getting shocking at the back. I'm gonna try to take more control of that next week because letting you loose isn't really doing it for me. Considering what we've got back there, we're awful.

Nath, never dribble or think about it and you'll probably be fine.

Good games chaps. In general, I thought the defence was okay. It's only when it you guys needed to he in line was when it went wrong. When I think back to previous seasons it was the good communication and direction that made things work better. We need to get back to that.

Anyways, well played methinks.

I dunno, it always feels a bit unstable to me. We're never keeping in like or playing together and it all gets a bit headless chicken too often for my liking.

Such is the nature of BAP. Once the ball starts pinging around in the box it's almost impossible to keep track of.

I dunno. I just felt that I had two decent games bar the occasional issue with the offside trap, and I'm not really seeing where the criticism is being aimed at is all ;)

Oh don't worry I'm not trying to have a go at anyone. I just feel like we're losing control of the back four and we're not gelling like we did earlier on in the season. As Chris says it's more about communication, and we've not had a guiding voice back there for nearly a season now. I just wanna see what I can do to make it tighter (even if it is just in my head) ;).

No we're not! (WI-FI)

Aye, it''s just getting away from us and I want to stop it while it's not that much of a problem. I do feel that the full backs (especially Meerman, it pains me to say) are a bit loose, but I'm also a bit everywhere and lacking concentration. I just don't think we're playing nearly as well as we can at the back.

You should have given him Bergkamp.

I dunno - it's a tough one really. After we started getting routinely split by the airborne through ball, I started playing more like another CB, which obviously left us a bit exposed on the flanks - but then you can only be in one place at once.

Meerman has always liked attacking and other than one or two questionable passes put in a decent performance. Unfortunately when the defence is under a critical eye, those things tend to stand out pretty bad!

Let's face it - in the first half of the first game we were completely taken by surprise, and when you go 3-0 down in not a huge amount of time it's pretty demoralising and everyone starts to play badly. By all means organise us during the game a little more, but at the moment we're walking it out to the same place every time and only adapting when we get caught out. A little more granularity wouldn't go amiss - asking the full-backs to tuck in, defending deeper, and so on.

Just something to think about for our next game. ;)

I know, aye. But in my defence; I have no idea what Fifa10 is doing at times, sending my character towards the ball automatically like a guided torpedo, even when it's somewhere in the midfield! What's going on, because that 'feature' wasn't in 09. Is it an assist somewhere? I'm going to turn them all off from now on anyway, they cause me to pass like shit (one example was my own doing - hitting the lob button to pass. never again :(). I think I still have all on them on 'assisted', and I think 'semi' will be better, right?

I assure you I'm better than this. Or I was, rather.

I'm not an attacker per se. I just like to help build up an attack from my position, hence me crossing the middle line in that case. I try to fall back in line asap for the offside trap (until the game decides my character needs to be guided towards the ball again.

But aside from my young dog antics, what do you all think of my mental coaching? I felt that as soon as I started my motivational ramblings, spirits went up, resulting into this awesome comeback and victory!

:)

Don't change your assists. The reason that lob pass was shit is that sometimes it fucks up the lob passes as puts no power on them. That's why we use the shoot button to clear. It's not an assist anyway, it did used to happen in 09, just not as often. It'll be down to you being relatively high up the pitch, and the ball being too deep for a midfielder to get to. Whatever you do, don't change your passes from 'assisted' :).

i would have to disagree on a few points with you Craig...

First of all Meerman, i really like his style of play at RB, and if he has the chance to drive forward and get a cross in/ bulk up the attack then he should do, as long as he can get back as well, its what most wingers do and i think he is really good when doing it.

Secondly, the no 'through balls' thing. When im playing in Midfield, i try to hold the ball up (hence my dribbling sometimes) and get a ball through to the attackers. And when the forward runs into space (joe is especially good at this and understands my play) they work really well. Now i also understand where your coming from though, and Pompey, with passing the ball quickly and effectively, and it does work soemtimes, but if there is a chance of playing the ball through, then you should in my opinion. Especially with Pompey being Defoe, who has pace and can easily run behind defences and pick up the loose ball.

Im going to listen to your advice and stop trying to dribble (although i only do this if i feel i have the opportunity to shoot) and give the quick passes a go. But im not going to stop putting in through balls or doing balls over the top because they are really effective on this Fifa and you will get mnay more shots on goal.

Also, the second game is our Achilles Heel at the moment. We only seem to be able to win one game out of the two atm, and its not good enough really. The defence need to take more time with the ball when possible, and pass it up to midfield, not just clear it. Ideally, the ball should be shipped to the CDM, who in turn can pass out to the wingers or to me, who can then give the ball to the attackers, thus building up an effective attack and having a shot on goal.

Ok, rant over :( this is just my opinion, your all obliged to disagree with me

I only said to stop the through balls because we were just trying them straight away and constantly losing the ball. In that first game we lost the ball about 15 times in a row purely because everyone thought it was a great idea to play the through ball immediately, rather than moving the ball about and playing the through ball when it's appropriate. I'm all for the through ball as an attacking weapon, but it has to be used sparingly and with some thought, else it all goes to shit like it did in the first game.

On the dribbling point, you do dwell on the ball too long. It's all well and good taking a touch or two before moving it on, but you consistently take 3, 4 or 5 before running it into an opposition player. Just don't think about dribbling at all, because there really isn't enough space in BAP to dribble through players from midfield.

And Nathan, the defence played the ball out to feet more last night than I've ever seen from an Athletic side. We were very good in that respect last night.
