Way I see it, you'd have something akin to those movie post-zombie city states at best. Basically a feudal society.

It's not even like they'd really be able to fall back on captured alien tech much considering they got pretty thoroughly exploderized, although I suppose they could retcon that a bit if need be. Same with the PoWs, I had assumed their annihalation to be fairly total but they could give themselves some wiggle-room if need be. Fuck, if Data is back then it's anyones guess.

I'm actually more interested in the broad strokes of the plot than the detail. What the fuck is it about? Are they invading again? Or what? Because the options here seem a bit limited.

Fuck it, speculation time:

They've struggled on post-war and have realised it was something of a phyrric victory, having been bombed back into the stone age. Some salvage crew digs up some fancy alien artifact from a wreck that gives them a second chance, opens up a wormhole or something. Then they fuck it all up and drama ensues.

In any case I dont really see much potential for explodo action to match the original as everything worth exploderising already has been.

I would be genuinely surprised if this went into the post-apocalyptic implications of the previous movie beyond background flavour - the White House is now in Branson, MO or something. Everything will be back to 99% business as usual.

Official synopsis:

Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

I can't think of much that would be more precidented than a second invasion by the same aliens but there you go.

I would have gone with Independence Day 2: Back In The Habitat.

It works because Earth is our habitat, and the aliens are back in it. And it reminds people of Sister Act, which is probably more bankable than Independence Day.

Teaser trailer attached to Terminator: Genisys this weekend. I imagine it'll be a text based "Next Summer...." type thing, given the film has only just started filming.

Unless they've got a new White House style effects piece finished especially for it.

I would like to think the aliens have at least developed a new operating system that isn't Mac compatible.

I really really hope someone makes that joke in the movie and Brent Spiner goes on a loud, fiery rant about how it was the other way around. The Mac and its operating system were reverse engineered from the Roswell crash.

Then Will Smith makes a cameo after the credits screaming "I SAID EARTH. EARTH!!"
