In all honesty I'm not holding my breath. We've had precisely 1 good Transformers game in the last twenty-odd years, it's from a studio not exactly known for it's quality products and it's published by the most abhorred and money hungry company currently operating in the video game industry today. The portents are there.

Looks like Barricade is a 'retooled' Breakdown (hell, even his pose is the same), nice for the film-fans I guess. Warpath looks like a new 'mold' entirely (though I can see him being retooled into 'Dynobot' Grimlock).

I keep looking in this thread and finding lots of nice pictures, but I still don't really have any sense of how the game actually plays. Is there a video I'm missing or something?

From what I can gather it's a bit Gears Of War/Army Of Two/Blood On The Sand with Battlefield Bad Company 2 multiplayer.

We have this one:

Gives a broad view of how multiplayer will work. And then there's the On The Spot episode containing a few sequences showing off some of the single player (which is 3P DIDO co-op), including the fight against Omega Supreme:

You may need to skip ahead a bit if you don't want to view the rest of the show.

Gonna have to go with Shockwave out of those 3 exclusives. Always been my fave 'con. Never really saw the appeal with Jazz tbh.

Are those Exclusives for US only atm?

Demolisher is exclusive to play.com, so I'm guessing jazz and shockwave will be exclusive to any of game/amazon/zaavi/shopto.

Warpath looks fantastic- I hope he shouts "blam! kaboom" etc like in the cartoon.

Not so struck on barricade though.

Joystiq Hands On

What I played of Transformers: War for Cybertron seemed to indicate, as game director Matt Tieger told me, that High Moon Studios puts gameplay first and the Transformers license a close second. The game played as an above-average third-person shooter, and the Unreal Engine rendered some sharp graphical touches, as the quality audio design -- man, that Peter Cullen voice! -- fills in the backstory and presence of the Transformer homeworld. There are a few control issues that will hopefully be addressed, and with just the short segments of the campaign that I played to go on, it's not clear if the story mode will succeed as an engaging experience.

Still, if nothing else, the unique abilities of the Transformers will make for a few good co-op levels with friends and some entertaining multiplayer matches. War for Cybertron doesn't look to be the licensed game standout that was Batman: Arkham Asylum, but it seems capable of providing a respectable experience for shooter and Transformers fans alike. At the very least, it should hold up better than a Michael Bay storyline.

Quite a bit of info about both the SP and MP sides of the game at the link.

I'm hoping this plays as good as it's currently looking in the videos/screens.

Online play is looking like mental fun as a Scientist, flying about dropping in to battles to heal your fellow bots before swiftly setting off to repair another.

I'd be like some terrific metal Florence Nightingale.

I still find it odd that even the trailer infers that melee is the way to fight and how the *real* battles are decided - and yet they make it a shooter. I still think that's the wrong approach, though I'd be happy to be wrong.
