The steam christmas sale has BEGUN

Just bought Civ III for £2 - that ought to keep me going.

Last year's sale was bonkers, I bought loads of games, some I've not even managed to play yet. Then they had their Halloween sale recently with the ridiculous THQ pack. And now this!

I just pray Valve don't pull the plug on all these games in the next five years because it'll take me that long to get around to plaing them all.

Not shabby? It's fucking spectacular! Any one of the games is worth that price - was an insta-purchase for me. About £11 spent in all, on Medieval 2, the Lucasarts pack, the Space Quest collection, Flatout, Evil Genius and Outrun. Give me something to do on my laptop when I head back to France after Christmas!

Just saw Sniper Elite for £1.74, been wanting to play that.

So I'm going to make notes, see what's about, and apart from the daily deals try and narrow it down to games I really want to play, otherwise I'll just end up spending far too much - it's only the 23rd after all.

Remember, anything not on the timed sales remains the same price until January 3rd. That said, I couldn't resist picking up Tales of Valor for £4.99 and double-dipping on Deus Ex for £4.01 (handy extra penny that). I was sorely tempted by GTA IV, Mirror's Edge and Stalker but realistically I know I'll never play them for any significant amount of time.

Oh and please, please, please buy Defense Grid; it is a top notch tower defence games and this is coming from someone who isn't even fond of the genre.

Company of Heroes for £4.99 (and the same price for its standalone expansion pack which has just as much content).

People are better off getting the compilation from play.com if they want the base game and both expansions, it's £6.99 (plus you get the discs and manuals).

And the Civ 4 complete collection is £4.99 on play.com at the moment too, it's £16.74 on steam

This year's sale has begun earlier than years past so gamers can save big on last-minute shopping via Steam's Gifting functionality

Nothing to do with the site crashing and burning on Christmas Eve delaying the sale until Boxing Day last year

I've bought so much I'm actually slightly disgusted with myself.

The Void is half price at a tenner, well worth picking up for the more adventurous among you...

Ooh, hadn't noticed that - been thinking about picking this up. Cheers, that's doubled the amount I've spent on Steam today >_<

Is this worth it for fans of Rogue Trooper?

They're very different games - it is very good (though the the AI - or rather its ability to aim at distance with, say, SMG's - can be a little suspect at times), and very tense, but nothing like the considerably more approachable Rogue Trooper.
