pretty tempted by S.T.A.L.K.E.R. at £2 or whatever but some people upthread were saying it was demanding to run and so i have basically no idea whether my laptop will handle it (my only PC gaming since uninstalling alpha centauri has been braid and audiosurf this week) - anyone care to offer me any advice?

NVIDIA GeForce GT230M GPU with dedicated GDDR3 Video Memory of 512 MB

4GB RAM

1366x768 resolution

Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit

Comparable spec to my laptop dude.

Should run just fine.

If only it supported a controller!

I'm not familiar with laptop graphics cards but the amount of video memory there suggests that it should easily handle it. The rest of your system is more than capable, at least in theory - part of the problem with Stalker is that it can underperform on theoretically capable systems, and run well on less powerful ones. At least in my experience.

thanks :-)

this STALKER thing and defense grid for me then, i think, which'll be four awesome-looking games for less than £8. that's kind of ridiculous.

Yeah it runs fine on mine with the settings pretty high.

Unlike Crysis

I may be preeching to the converted here, but with all that LucusArts goodness you better get Ben There, Dan That and Time, Gentlemen Please! to go with them.

Most definitely. Those two games can't be publicised enough - they're fantastic. And one of them (the first, handily) is free!

Yeah, glad I read about those two games on this thread. Getting near the end of Ben there Dan that and have really enjoyed it so far.

I don't know why people complain about the download speeds with steam, I've had no problems throughout the sale. I'm currently downloading Defence Grid at nearly 1mb/s!

On Stalker - as people have said, it often runs like shit on decent rigs, it's really a tough game to make work well.

I'd really cross your fingers for running it on a laptop - it may be great, it may bog-down like a mofo.

For example - my old desktop was a bit low-spec (P4, 8600GT) but it played in med settings OK - wheras an AMD 250 (3.0ghz dual) with a 9600GT had allsorts of trouble running it at all - for reasons I never fathomed and long since stopped caring about.

For the money you can hardly complain much tho

Damnit, ain't happening for Mastercard payment or Paypal. All I wanna do is buy Defense Grid & Time Gentlemen Please! :-(

Then I can go back to the couch and finish watching movies while complaining I have man flu.

Update: Yay, sorted. Damn you steam, so many games to play now.

Still not working for me, shall just leave it for a while, hopefully things will settle down later.

Pretty crap last day but I picked up Torchlight and Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood (surprisingly the first game is not reduced but the sequel is).

Spent a lot on this sale!

I bought that on the 360 for £3.49 in GameStation last year - this year it was £14.99. The sequel is clearly pushing sales of the old one.

Which is a shame for anyone who buys it expensive, as at least half of it is utterly shit.

I just did a mastercard payment, took about 10 minutes sat "Working" and then just randomly...worked.

So the only thing not bought that stands out on the final day is The Witcher, is it worth the £7.81? Currently well into Mass Effect at the moment so christ knows when I'd ever get time to play it...

Mass Effect isn't very long in the whole great scheme of things.
