BBC 6Music's biggest stars, Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish, have left the digital radio station.

The award-winning pair, who present the Saturday morning Adam and Joe Show, are going on indefinite sabbatical because of other work commitments. Cornish, who worked on the screenplay of Steven Spielberg's new movie, the Adventures of Tintin, is about to direct a film.

Their departure is a blow for the station, which has an average weekly audience of 624,000 listeners and recently announced a reshuffle that saw Lauren Laverne replace George Lamb in the weekday morning slot. Cornish and Buxton were moved an hour later in the Saturday morning schedule, to 10am.

The Adam and Joe Show won radio programme of the year at the Broadcasting Press Guild awards last year. It was nominated for four Sony Radio Academy Awards this year but missed out on a prestigious gold, winning silver in three categories.

A 6Music spokeswoman said the pair would return to the station in the future, but it remains unclear when or where.

They will present a pre-recorded Boxing Day programme.

"Thank you to everyone who has listened and particularly everyone who has contributed to the show," Cornish told listeners in their last live broadcast on Saturday. "But we will be back."

"Obviously we are going to miss you listeners," added Buxton. "Take care, we love you, bye!"

From the wording of that press release, it sounds bad and they may never return!

From the Radio Show & Podcasts they mentioned that they're going for awhile but they will be back and it'll be quicker than you know it.

For the past few days, their Podcast has been their best shows from the past few years so go and have a listen if you miss them already!

PS. Save Boggins.

Adam and Joe have been saying for the last few weeks they will be off air whilst Joe works on his film. Obviously they could not set an exact date for when they will return because of this. No one has said anything about them never coming back. This story claiming they left the station is bollocks with nothing to back it up.

ps Kill Boggins xxxXXXxxx

 there's no reason to get up on a Saturday morning any more

some lovely soul has all of their XFM radio shows (not just podcasts)with the music removed here:

http://www.humyo.com/349893-54134099

that's a good 60 or 70 odd hours of them talking bollocks and playing Celebrity Regression, which is the best game ever played on radio.

all the 6music ones are here:

you need a (free) humyo account to nab them I think

and yeah, they never said they were leaving - just on hiatus indefinitely

You sir, are a wonderful person. I've been looking for a backlog of their 6Music podcasts for ages. This is fantastic! Thank you!

I really enjoyed it but I think they were due a break. I'm sure they'll be back before we know it.

I agree with this. They've been my family's imaginary podcast friends since the XFM days, I love them dearly, and my wife and daughter featured on the show a few weeks back, but I think they could do with some time off.

I have a couple of discs with all those XFM shows and the BBC ones. It's a total joy to go through them, even when they're just talking shite it feels like good company.

Haven't heard this last one (was pre-recorded I believe) but the one before had some class moments, including them talking about the prize segment of The Gadget Show - they had that spot-on.

And I know the words to the Text The Nation jingle off by heart now, can't help but do it when it comes on.

Sad to see them go off the air though. Theirs was the only show I listened to on 6Music, most of the other daytime presenters got on my nerves.

Dr_M: whoops - I said I'd do them about 2 years ago didn't I? They are AWESOME though. Funnier especially than their last fairly mediocre 3 months.

Boggins is utter shit and the worst thing they've ever done. I hate him and I'm so glad he's never coming back. They almost lost me just because he was so irritating and disgusting. No one ever needs to hear the phrase 'anal glands' on radio. Ever. I'm trying to eat breakfast for fucks sake. Tossers.

Phew.

Anyway, yeah, obviously they're great but they did seem to be massively lacking in material in the last few months - no song wars, no more Steven!, quite boring text-the-nations, etc...

You're quite alright, buddy. I've got them now anyway. I seem to remember I was complicating things at the time by being out of the country anyway...

I’d noticed they’ve been sounding a bit less enthusiastic of late, so it’s probably good they go off for a bit of a rest (except it’s not a rest, Cornballs is making a film which is probably the most stressful thing it’s possible to do, but anyway). They’re still unbelievably hilarious, though.

The classic podcasts they’ve been putting up recently have been amazing, the one today where they speculate on unsuitable TV series spinoffs was hilarious.

The funniest thing they did on the show was the bad accent section where they covered Ray Winstone’s deep south accent in that godawful film I’ve forgotten the name of.

P.S. I love Boggins.

Totally. Their idle conversations crack me up. They're just naturally funny guys. I love how immature they are at times with the double entendres and the giggling around adult stuff. I love those guys and I listened to the podcast every week.
