Things you've never done in gaming

Never completed LttP. Had it as a ROM on my parents' PC many moons ago, got to the end, but the computer got some horrific virus which meant the hard drive had to be wiped. Never bothered starting again.

In terms of achievements, never got through the whole of Super Monkey Ball in one credit. I could have done it I'm sure, but never put in a concerted effort as I thought I'd easily crack it one day, but my interest waned and I'll never get to that standard again. Damn you Master 9!

I've never got off the first island/city/section of any GTA game. I must have played and replayed GTA 3 about 10 times but even cheating I've not managed it, partly down to being crap, partly because of the controls, partly because I hate that repeat-this-mission-until-you-nail-it-or-die-of-old-age-whichever-comes-sooner gameplay, although I love just messing about in the city, shame it's not the whole city.

Same here. I had it on the SNES back in the day and never finished it because I foolishly let someone borrow it (I've not let anyone borrow stuff off me since). Replayed it a couple of times on emulators but there is always some section that pisses me off enough to just give up - better things to be doing with my time than redoing that section a 50th time. Not touched it in about 10 years so ought to try again.

I've never paid for a subscription for any MMO

I've wanted to but thanks to trial accounts I've been able to satisfy my curiosity about the game before addiction has set in. I'll probably remedy this when FFXIV comes out. I'm hoping to be day one for that bad boy.

I've never owned or seen a modded original Xbox

All this talk of XBMC and emulators on them sounded great but I wasn't prepared to take the risk and was the only person I knew with an xbox.

I've never completed Halo 3

I found it to be an absolute chore and have a deeply ingrained hatred for the Flood.

I did, but because I played one level co-op it didn't count. And because it involved the Flood I've never had the heart to go back and do it on my own. Bloody Halo ;)

Never finished Bioshock

Shocking I know, sadly my excuse for this is pretty horrid. I was playing WoW quite heavily when it came out. Having since quit WoW, Bioshock remains on my pile of shame.

Never finished a Zelda game

Again a real shocker, but I just never get into them. Closest I got was the Minish Cap on the GBA. Superb game, but the final boss just annihilated me!

Never owned a SNES or a Megadrive

In 1987 I bought a Sega Master System and really wasn't pleased with it at all. ACE magazine promised the arcade in your home, they lied! I compared the games on it to my Atari 520 STFM and found it wanting. I then became a console refusnik for 10 years after, with some amazing games passing me by i the process ;)

Never finished Chrono Trigger

I have played it, I'm just half way through it on my DS. It is a fantastic game, it's just really leads into my next confession...

Never finished a JRPG

I've really tried, but there is always some part of the game that crops up and says 'hi! You now have to do this repeatedly in order to progress!'. The best example being the Chocobo racing in FF7. When that appeared I thought 'OH FUCK OFF' and uninstalled it from my PC right there and then. The same cannot be said for Western RPG's though, for I have finished Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, all of the Fallouts, Dungeon Master, Mass Effect, Never Winter Nights, Knights of the Old Republic and so on.

I've never played a subscription-based MMO. Tried one or two free ones though.

I've never played a Modern Warfare game online, although I have been planning to.

Until very recently this week, I'd never entered the Konami code in a Konami game. Tried it out on the Gradius collection for the PSP.

I've never owned a Gamecube, and the only games I've experienced have either been on demo pods or through ports (Viewtiful Joe, Resident Evil 4)

I've never played a PS3 game

I've never completed an 8-bit Mega Man game; I got to Wily's Castle on MM2 but it asks you to do all stages in one shot with no passwords, and I can't.

I've never played a dancemat game, although a part of me secretly wants to. ;)

I'm sure if I think hard enough, there's loads more but these are off the top of my head.

Never played on a Saturn

Pretty much all my mates and myself had Playstations at the time.

Never liked anything to do with Dead or Alive

I'm not much of a fan of beat 'em ups these days but back when I was, despite the good reviews, I thought very little of the series. The fact that I own DoA3 is a genuine mystery to me.

Never played Elite

Yep, the space epic is a game that passed me by in my youth. I think I was probably too busy playing Rollercoaster or something

Never smashed a control pad

Nope, I may have raged at my game consoles in the past but I never assaulted them. Too much money to replace!

Never seen an Atari Jaguar in the flesh

But that's not too surprising is it?

And as a bonus, something I wish I'd never done was ask for Rise of the Robots on the Christmas of 1994. Boy was that a shite Christmas.

Played on an Xbox360

The only person I know who owns one is my brother, who I basically never see

Played on a Gamecube

Which is weird, considering I own one. I was given it by my brother in law and it's sat in acupbard ever since

Played anything online

I've played LAN games way back when I worked in games, but have never actually played anything online. It just doesn't interest me, to be honest.

Played any MGS, Mario, Zelda, JRPG or SRPG game for more than about five minutes

They do nothing for me

100% a game

I mostly play games until I get bored, then stop. I've beaten quite a few games, but I've always taken the path of least resistance to do so. Speaking of which...

played a game on "Hard"

It's easy street for me, baby!

They aint missing much.

My best mate had a Saturn, at the same time i had a Playstation. He tried to believe it was the better machine. even back then at the age of 12, it was obvious to see how shite it was. This culminated in us both having Wipeout and him eventually breaking.

That's your problem right there. ;)

Have you ever considered that you're getting bored because you're playing on easy, and therefore challenge/strategy/tactics are less involved?

I know personally that while I never play on the Hardcore/Insane/Nightmare difficulty settings on games, playing trivially easy games bores me to tears.

I tend to play most stuff on "medium" then give up at the point that it stops being fun because it gets too hard. I don't really have much time to invest in games (mostly due to a demanding wife and... well it's just the wife) so I never really have the time to get good at anything. games are mostly a way of unwinding and anything hard just winds me up more...

My jaw literally dropped when reading that -- I mean c'mon, WonderBoy III or The Viking Child? Jesus.

For a little while it kinda was. At the time you'd have been glad to have Saturn Exhumed over any PS FPS (including Exhumed!), or Athlete Kings over any PS equivalent, or Sat' Street Fighter Alpha/Zero 2, or Die Hard Arcade over Fighting Farce, perhaps even VF2 over Tekken 2 and Sega Rally over RR. The PS just took the lead, genre by genre over time -- the breaking point for me being Soul Edge, which simply blew anything the Saturn could offer clean out of the water, ditto Symphony Of The Night (better performance on PS -- how did that happen?!), Wip3out (still one of the best racers under my telly) and, well, the list goes on doesn't it? But it's not like the Saturn lacks a solid software library.

Oh I'm also another one who never...

Bought a Neo Geo

Even have a couple of (mvs) carts in anticipation of doing so, just never got around to it.

ditto Symphony Of The Night (better performance on PS -- how did that happen?!)

It was a cash in port by one of Konami's "B" teams. Even if it was better it still would not match the sales of the PS version, so why bother?

Thunderforce V, Exhumed, X-Men and Silhouette Mirage better on Saturn (how did that happen?!) Same reason.

Never played on Xbox Live.

Never played a Mega Man, Metroid, Castlevania, or Resident Evil game.

Tell a lie: I played the original NES Metroid very briefly when I was about six. But I remember nothing about it except the iconic semicircular doors, so I might as well say I've never played it.

As for the others: I still intend to get Resi 4 one of these days, Castlevania SOTN will be one of the first Live Arcade games I buy when I get a 360 (it is still on there, isn't it?), and whenever I get a Wii I'll work through the Metroid games on the Virtual Console.

Never played a Rare/Ultimate Play the Game game on any system other than the N64.

Never played Street Fighter 3.

:coffee:

Download the Saturn Emulator, get some good RLLMUK recommendations for purchases then start buying them cheap off eBay! You owe it to yourself to have/play Panzer Dragoon Saga, NiGHTS, Radiant Silvergun, D&D, Burning Rangers, Guardian Heroes and all the Capcom fighters.

 Not likely to find those cheap on eBay!

Until very recently this week, I'd never entered the Konami code in a Konami game. Tried it out on the Gradius collection for the PSP.

I don't think I've ever done that, either - unless you count the Facebook Easter egg!

It's just surprising to see the Saturn being handed its arse in 2D (given its reputation you wouldn't think equalling the performance of the PS would be any bother at all) although, you're right, not being the lead platform does generally account for such discrepancies.

In my defence, I was only 16 at the time and I had the machine from launch day and I do not believe either of those games were available for the system at launch. So yes, what a total knobend I was! :coffee:

You've just reminded me of something else I've never done.

Never thought Alex Kidd games were any good

Yep, even the built in SMS Miracle World was utter shite to me. Wonderboy III:The Dragon's Trap makes up for it though. I loved my SMS.

Never beat Super Nashwan on Speedball 2.

On the ST or Amiga, or using a pad? I used to smash them up by a good 200-400pts every game using a joystick back in my 16 bit days. Playing them on my X360 now is a massive pain in my arse though. Stupid joypad.

Never completed a Zelda game. Hell, never got further than a couple of hours into a Zelda game. Same goes for any Metroid Prime. And Final Fantasy. And Castlevania. And a whole host of other games I found either incredibly sub par, broken or just plain dull.

I've never finished Ikaruga, despite a lot of time trying. I got to level 3 once, but started to feel at that point that too much of it can be attributed to memory, rather than skill. It needed to be easier but more random if I was to carry on with it.
