Infamous 2 - Out Now!

I just started my second run through. I plan to do a Hard  Evil run. I've collected all my blast shards and gotten all my dead drops already so I'm going to strictly be a wicked bastid this time round! Watch out New Marais, Cole's back!!

Out of curiosity anyone playing with the skins or amp modifiers? My first run through I HAD to choose Sly's cane. It looked so cool. On my second run through I was going to be Kessler (For that extra evil touch), but he's to old and ugly looking. I ended up going with Classic Cole but I might switch to the Reaper skin.

Have I expressed how much I hate Nix? In my Top 10 Worst Party Members of All Time she is in the top 3.

Manager: "Lads, we need a party member for the Bad playthrough"

Designer 1: "Why, we did not have one in inFamous 1"

Manager: "We had Zeke... "

Designer 1: "True but he was Cole's friend. Zeke albeit annoying was valuable to the plot and the player"

Manager: "We can not use Zeke again, we have already walked that path"

Manager: "That Asian type girl, she is Good right"

Designer 1: "Yes"

Manager: "We need someone non Asian for the Bad path"

*silence*

Manager: "How about a black person"

Designer 1: Don't you think that is a little 'done' already. The big black bad guy. Plus we already have a lot of black people in the police force"

Manager: "Hmmm"

Designer 2: "Ooh I know. We use a different type of black. How about a Rastafari"

Designer 1: "A what?"

Manager: "A what?"

Designer 2: "You know, the type with dreadlocks and that stereotype accent"

Designer 1: "Are you serious?"

Designer 2: "And we use a girl. Make her speak in a stereotype accent like 'We is gonna do dat mon'"

Designer 1: "I don't know about this. The Asian girl does not speak with an accent"

Manager: "I LIKE IT! Let's create the most annoying stereotype you can come up with. Have her talk with that horrible accent, make her ultra violent, give her dreadlocks and have her flirt with Cole and have her quarrel with the Asian girl as often as possible. Ow, and do not forget to make her gullible and plain dumb"

Sorry Df0 but your a bit off kilter.

I don't think she supposed to be Rastafari she supposed to be Cajun. New Marais is an analog to New Orleans. They are influenced by a mixture of French & American Indian culture.

Ok, Cajun. Does not change the fact that I find her insanely irritating because of all the reason described above. The Asian girl (she is Asian right?) does not have any stereotypes glued to her ("Herro Core, this is the Lay Sphele Inhibitatol") yet Nix has almost every single one of em. Zeke is the chubby side kick but is not seen eating and drinking all the time and is certainly not dumb.

Ugh, I was really enjoying this until the flooded town. All the games numerous problems come together to suck all the fun out of the game. :(

One thing that I've really started to hate, NPC's running around, getting in my way only to die by my hands, some times through no fault of my own and I get hit with some negative karma.

Honestly dude, aside from her accent, Kuo, (The ASIAN girl has a name) can be seen as stereotypical as well.

From Wiki:

"Asian Americans have also been stereotyped as a "model minority"; that is, positive traits are applied as a stereotype. Asians are seen as hardworking, politically inactive, studious, intelligent, productive, and inoffensive people who have elevated their social standing through merit and diligence."

SOUNDS LIKE KUO TO ME!!

At the end of the day, I found neither to be very stereotypical. Nix grew up in the poor south of New Marais (New Orleans). She is cajun, and at least in America, how she talks isn't anything special. Kuo, we can assume is from the North and is a high ranking government agent. Of course there are going to act & talk differently. Their ethnicity really isn't so relevant. Furthermore,

She and her other family members where duped into getting killed by the rays sphere only she survived. Why shouldn't she be angry? And given her actions at the end of the game you might want to wait before you write her off completely

I know exactly what mission you are talking about! It's probably the worst in the franchise. Don't worry there is only one of those. And you don't stay in Flood town too long. The industrial area opens up quick.

Enjoying this so far. I don't think it's anything particularly special to be honest but it's fun though it's more like an expansion pack than a full on advanced sequel. However, Nix is one of the worst character I've ever seen in a videogame EVER. I don't care if she's cajun or whatever, she's just a really really shit character up there with Rico from Killzone. To be honest the story and characters are the weakest things in the game, I don't think Sucker Punch have ever done really great characters. I really don't give a fuck about anyone in this game. Thankfully the gameplay's there which is what matters and what I care about the most.

Yup, I'm out of there now and thoroughly enjoying the game again.

My only criticism now is that Cole is still too weak, it becomes very apparent during those battle of the gang side missions. You're constantly being thrown around by shotgunners and other enemies and it's all too easy to die.

Has anyone had a bug with

the well cap completely disappear on them during that capping fires mission ? I was blasting the cap over to a few wells and then when I was going to move onto the next one it completely disappears. As in gone without a trace. It doesn't appear on the map (as it usually would) and it's nowhere to be found with me not being able to cap the rest of the fires. May have to restart the mission otherwise

It didn't happen during that mission (thank the stars, I'd hate to have to redo it) but it has happened a couple of time during the side missions. Very annoying.

Just a quickie, anyone feel Cole's bolts are piss weak. Some of the boss monsters take an age to take down, not because they're hard just that your firing off anything that can damage them then running off to recharge over and over and over. Getting very dull towards the end.

Not really depends on ur play style, he has the pincers and the magnum, and the rapid fire ones.

Just got the rapid fire ones, seems to make short work of the enemies. Game just crashed though storming a base. Bah, was multipart as well; knocked the console for more later in the week. Seems a good length and don't really want to rush through it. Makes me want to play through the first one again for third time. Only thing i've noticed is that that there doesn't seem to be any hard stuff to climb as in the first one had and there's big chunks of the game where there's not much story, but it may be the way I'm approaching it doing too many side missions; this game makes me want to do them all and get the shards too, something I'm not really completionist about in other games ie Assassins Creed.

I'm already developing an OCD to do every single side mission before progressing the story at each point. so I've only just (mid-first island spoiler)

rescued Kuo from the Militia, and seen all the ice guys leap off into the city

but I've completed enough missions to have all the good side bolts (pincer, artillery, magnum, rapid-fire) two kinds of blast, the sticky grenades and all three good side abilities. I don't have any rockets yet, so I'm kind of making it harder and easier for myself all at once!

I still wish Cole could withstand a little more punishment. At least the Hero rank ability of recharging a little for every zap on a human will assist in the bigger battles. I'd forgotten how much of a drag recharging all the time was.

The game takes a nose dive during the Flood town bit. As soon as you leave that it picks up again.

Start: Decent. Nothing we have not seen before.

Flood: Horrible.

End: Good. Story falls into place and some rather exciting quests.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it was horrible, there was one or two bad moments (like the section with the lights) it was just pretty forgettable. I think it's around that time you get one of the best powers in the game too :)

edit: but like df0 says it definitely picks up at the end. I think it gets better the more powers you have to play with.

I just wish they hadn't diluted Cole's powers by adding fire and ice. He's THE ELECTRIC MAN! It's like giving Spider-Man the Batmobile.

Other than that it was fabulous. Dropping down on 30 enemies and feeling like you have mastered all the powers enough to handle them perfectly is astonishingly satisfying. 2 more dead drops to find, and then an evil/hard play through and I'll be platinum. :eyebrows:

Just finished the Evil playthrough. Had me some good fun, especially towards the end when things fell into place. The Dead Drops (found all of em) are worth your time to collect as they provide a nice back story. Overall, a worthy 7/10.

Now to start the Good playthrough. This will be so different from the Evil one I can't wait to see the ending

I understand that on the evil play through there is no Fire power equivalent to the ice jump, I can imagine that would change how you play through Flood Town a lot.
