Hey! Maybe they could get Ricky Gervais to do the voiceover, then no-one will mind if the ball man thing gets mercilessly destroyed.

If not him, then perhaps The Fiend Whose Name We Dare Not Speak. (Ames-Jay Orden-cay.)

The real voice has got to be Mackenzie Crook. It sounds just like him, and the man himself has a face that is very large and spherical. If you know what I mean. Plus Americans would have actually come into contact with him, what with Pirates of the Caribean, and the Gervais link.

Mackenzie Crook has the opposite of a spherical face, you loon. Well, not the opposite, that would be a cube, I guess? Or maybe some kind of hyperspace anti-sphere. But anyway, it's very long and gaunt, so not spherical. Karl Pilkington famously has a spherical head.

Crook would be good for the voice though.

Fucking amazing Glados dialogue:

'Do you know the biggest lesson I learned from what you did? We're a lot alike, you and I. You tested me, I tested you. You killed me, I...oh no, wait. I guess I haven't killed you yet. Well......food for thought'

It's creepy how the trailer & demo video is showing what the first game only hinted at with most of the Testchambers being reconfigurable as it emphasises the feeling of being a rat stuck in a maze.

I'm glad that there were some glimpses of some other environments such as that falling room though, as It implies that the environments will have more variety this time aound.

Some non-spoilery videos showing off the new 'gel' mechanics. You may have seen some of this footage before if you watched any of the videos from Valve's closed-door E3 event.

I seem to remember a student-developed game with very similar mechanics: you had a paint gun that could shoot different colours - one was bouncy, one made you fast, etc - you painted the environment to get to the exit.

Hope the students were hired rather than the idea just being nicked...

Looks wicked, but at the same time like it'll hurt my brain a little bit.

The concept of Portals has never stopped doing that. You're here, & the Portal takes you to somewhere else which is also here so you haven't really gone anywhere, but you have because you're over there, but now you're upside down & falling upwards, & you need to shoot another Portal over there so the Portal you just went through now goes somewhere else when you go back through it, &...

Adding more mechanics like the Gel will no doubt cause even more headaches & I welcome it. More games should mess with Reality & Physics like that. :P

I am only now playing the first Portal.

It is good isn't it? Bit worried that I'm on level 15 of 19, apparently, and trying to forget the spoilers I read at the top of this page (I know, I know, it's been out for years. I'm not having a go or anything), but it's so tightly crafted. When's the new one out?

Early 2011 hopefully.

The ball man thing sounds like Stephen Merchant to me. Hey! Maybe they could get Ricky Gervais to do the voiceover, then no-one will mind if the ball man thing gets mercilessly destroyed.

Have a doggy biscuit

Valve has just confirmed to CVG that The Office star and co-writer Stephen Merchant will star in Portal 2.

Merchant's lent his vocal talents to 'buddy sphere' Wheatley.

When we spoke to Valve at E3, when Wheatley - who will join you on at least some of your mission through the game - was unveiled, they told us that the voice behind the character was "just some guy from our office".

Our office. The Office.

Cheeky scamps.
