Is this deal still about? I can't seem to see it on the preorder page which contains this quite amusing little video;

It just links to Game's portal 2 page and I can't seem to see it on there.

Yeah, I'm on 360, I somehow don't think my little netbook could handle it. Bless.

Would actually be quite a clever thing to do with co-op heavy games in normal retail though. I probably wouldn't have bothered pre-ordering it as I'm brass at the mo but I could easily be convinced if there was guaranteed co-op fun with a chum.

I love that duo. They have a Laurel & Hardy Vibe going on & have more character than most "Human" characters.

I'm curious though. How is it going to be decided who gets to play which one? Or in other words, are you an Atlas, or a P-Body? :D

Despite the fact that I've just started using Steam on a new laptop that appears to be able to handle Portal 1 just fine, i'll be playing Portal 2 on the PS3 because the laptop only has one of those generic built-in video cards that Portal 2 will almost certainly be too much for. I'll still give it a try though, just to see what happens.

I thought that, but then I thought why would I when I'll only play the Pc version anyway and I wouldn't have to play Portal 2 on a god awful fucking pad.

Well it's kind of become a standard thing for me to get all Valve products on as many platforms as possible. I really enjoyed playing though TOB on the 360 and seeing as my rig probably won't run this in all it's sterile glory I might as well swing both ways again. I'll install the PC version at a friend's house on his more capable rig.

Yes, you do get that.

On PS3 you get the cross-platform play, you get the frequent updates," Faliszek explained. "The frequent updates allow a lot of things. They allow the cross-platform play to happen. You get the Steam cloud. So if you're playing a PS3 over your friend's house, and play on his PS3 the save is recorded.

"You also get the Steam copy. It's not a copy we just give away. It's attached to your PSN and Steam account. But yeah, there are some cool things you can do there."

I will get the PS3 version to play with my mate and then play the Steam version I will get with that when I have a better rig later this year. It's pretty cool that Valve does this.

This is a general complaint I level at the marketing of games nowadays - but is Valve absolutely determined to show and ruin half the game?

I really don't like the massive over-exposure all media gets nowadays, but it seems to particularly bother me with games.

Trailer after trailer after trailer. Exclusive sneak peaks. Exclusive footage. TV spots. Exclusive previews and photos.

I suppose I sort of, kind of, perhaps, maaaybe agree. Yet, the only problem I have is that I lack the willpower to not expose myself to the pre-release hype. It is always a few clicks away and never beamed through your optics without prior warning.

Yeah, actually, that's a general question to people here too - don't you worry about over exposure?

Especially with Portal 2 being a game centered around good-for-one-use puzzles. I see people here watching all the videos and I wonder if they're not worried about diluting the experience.

I watched about half of just one video that came out of E3/GDC/etc and felt like I was ruining the experience for myself. There was tonnes of footage about, and i'm not even including the trailers in that.

Somehow I'm able to force myself to avoid all, or damn near all, media when I suspect a game is going to be truly special. I've seen nothing of Portal 2 except that godawful cover and one trailer (which wasn't really my choice - I thought they had a playable version of Portal 2 at the latest Gamescom, Valve's stand certainly suggested so, but after standing in line for ages it turned out to be nothing more than a trailer. Did get two excellent Portal 2 t-shirts though). I have barely seen anything of La Noire, and nothing of Deus Ex 3 except for one screenshot someone posted to point out the game has Dreamcast-level graphics.

And about getting the PC version for free when you buy the PS3 version - well the PC version is cheaper and a version that requires a dual shock 3 to play (which I really don't like for fps games) doesn't interest me in the slightest.

Depends on the games for me. I don't mind seeing tons of footage of Mortal Kombat for instance, as the only thing that can spoil is which characters and back grounds are in. But that's a fighting game. For single player games that I really can't wait to play, I just read a preview or two but don't watch much footage. I went into both Mario Galaxies pretty fresh for instance and that made the experience all the better. I have hardly seen anything from Portal 2 as I am on a media black-out for that.

So yeah, I guess I agree. It takes a little will power to not click on every link but it pays off when you have the game in your grubby hands.
