I've read the first bit of that a few times and I still can't get it to make sense. I was merely stating my experience on the subject, never said I was an expert - however I have worked in an environment involving speaking with distributors, who sell games I might add, and I still work there part time on occasion, dating back 8 years now. So no, maybe not an expert, as my experience is only limited to one shop and the distributors we deal with, but I would hope that it's fair to say there might be some validity behind my words that could perhaps be transferred to other examples, especially considering the reports from others here?

One of these days everything will stop being wrapped in plastic. First we had supermarkets stopping offering plastic bags so readily, next it'll be shrinkwrap. Then you'll really be in a pickle. :)

I actually have no idea if it's supposed to come in a sealed box or not. I actually don't care, because the item I received was obviously new and the presentation etc demonstrated its newness, and I was happy with the quality. You still haven't said if the game you ordered was scratched or anything, if the manual was showing obvious signs of wear and tear? Or did it, in fact, seem new?

I'm not really being hypocritical, I was just being facetious. You have no reason to suspect I'm a hypocrite who questions your insistence on shrink-wrapped games and then gets wound up about it myself, do you, other than my blatant over the top sarcasm which either went over your head or you chose to treat as my actual opinion.

Didn't read that way to me but if you say so fine. I did get the sarcasm but it seems you didn't get mine! :)

Post it notes don't have big warnings saying, "if seal broken, do not use" plastered all over them.

Of course, your original point wasn't that non-food items were sealed. It was that items had warnings saying not to use if the seal was broken.

Your taking it out of context you know exactly what I meant. :)

What you wrote didn't make sense :) It does seem I hit upon your intended meaning, however.

Your quite right. What I meant to say is that in the future when you predict that plastic seals won't be in use, there won't be any physical media.

Is that clear enought? :)

No, since it's not been used.

You have no way to validate that!

Would you be bothered if a used game was sealed up and sold as new? Is the actual state of the product irrelevant and the presence of shrink wrap the only requirement for your peace of mind?

Maybe someone could've bought and played a copy of Dante's Inferno and shat inside the box before sealing it back up again and selling, and everyone here would have every reason to believe you would think it was actually brand new.

So was the game disc scratched? Did the manual show signs of wear and tear?

There were finger prints (in, out and on the disc) when I opened the game, I didn't pull the game disc to check if it was scratched because I wasn't going to accept it like that!

You seem to have omitted to say this previously.

And so are distributors, so??

Don't understand your point. I think a distributor would get an initial date of when they will receive stock!

Game release dates should be the same for everyone within a region and therefore it's fair to assume it'd be reasonably well known information as well as important. If a game release date changes, people must know about it given it affects marketing and other areas. Whereas the state of the box could vary from distributor to distributor, and possibly even at a lower level than that (as in differ from different areas within a single distributor), making it harder to keep a handle on than just monitoring a change in release date.

Basically, that's why I think you saying updating box information is comparable updating release date information is wrong.

I'm shocked at the results. Why wouldn't anyone want to know the condition of an item they can't see before they buy it?

Everyone knows exactly what the condition is when they buy something new online - it's new and unused. It just seems that most people don't think shrinkwrapping has much bearing on that, not that shocking is it? Buying from somewhere like ebay I'd want a lot more reassurance, but there's little trust or regulation there.

What if you buy a book, either online or in a shop, and it's been fucking thumbed through. How would you know?

Anyone who worries about shit like this is mentally ill, literally.

I quite often flick through books before I buy them, to decide what to get, in shops. I must be unwittingly destroying little shards of people's souls when I do this.

If it's being sold as new then I'm more concerned if the Xbox seal (with the barcode) is there than the cellophane wrapping. If the box and cover is in good condition (no scratches and marks) then it's good.
