Smaller "Slim" 360 - Now official

Pistol

Recommended Posts

Pre-ordered mine today at GS.

Think i'll hang on to my Halo 360 though rather than trade it.

Do I need a transfer cable to transfer the data from on HD to the other? How much do they cost? Will a memory card do the job too?

IIRC you'll be able to do it via USB memstick

You can use a USB stick to move the important shit about, yeah. There was an update to make (up to) 16gb USB's compatible. It's worth pointing out that some saves WON'T transfer even with a transfer cable and you can redownload all your XBL stuff anyway.

For the pittance you get i'd rather give my old one to a parent, or sell cheaply to a friend. My mum might enjoy some stuff off XBLA, id rather she had my elite for the sake of 99 quid. Then she can play puzzle quest and peggle on the TV.

I thought the USB update also made it so all saves could at least be moved now if not copied? Are all the transfer cables the same as you can get them for about £5 on ebay, be less hassle than a USB stick and can likely trade it for most of that back once done?

I did a transfer a couple of weeks back and some stuff from Mass Effect and Dragon Age didn't transfer over. But yeah, all cables are the same.

Gamestations prices will be the same as Games and it wouldn't surprise me if they refused to match on this, because they can and will probably use the excuse that CEX don't sell new consoles.

Besides which this bastard will short ship so get one where you can.

Can anyone confirm this?

I got a slim yesterday. I transferred across a few save games and some content via USB (haven't tried all the saves yet). I also did this:

Transferring Content Licenses to a New Console

Which was a relatively painless exercise. I didn't check before I did it, but I assumed it had to be done if I wanted to play any downloadable content offline.

By the way, the all black controller and headset look considerably better than the old ones. Also, it's way too quiet. I've grown accustomed to the comforting buzz that my old Xbox used to make. Silence frightens me now (I have tinnitus). The loudest thing is the fan in the PSU (I assume it's a fan, it makes noise), unless you have a disc spinning in the drive which still isn't that loud.

EDIT: I'll try my Mass Effect saves now.

They aren't the same, never have been. They don't refuse to match either because of the second hand thing, why would they? They also sell second hand goods.

What the hell are you talking about? Game bought Gamestation ages ago and they can refuse to match because are you going to buy a new 360 from CEX? No, because they don't sell them so they aren't exactly in danger of losing your custom.

:) Yeah, no shit. But their prices aren't the same, so what the hell are you talking about?

They price match and have never declined CeX's prices in years of going there for me so why would they stop now?

Your Xbox gave you tinnitus?

:) I wouldn't be surprised. Serious answer, it was a head injury apparently. I really do prefer as much sound around me as possible.

P.S. Looks like my Mass Effect 1 & 2 saves have transferred over fine using a USB stick.
