Yet another question about the same area as SteveH:

I spent a good few hours last night swimming around the Eryth Sea. On my travels I found an island with unique creature called Funeral Gozra. Naturally, I killed it, looted the remains and went on my merry way. Now I've been given a side quest from someone asking me to repair an ether reactor damaged by Funeral Gozra then murder him. I swam back to the island but there was no sign of him.

Have I borked the quest?

I still can't believe they didn't release this in the US.

Yeah it's really shit on NOA's part (if they have any say over it at all). It would have been such a travesty if the game had been left to rot with no English release at all.

Also I agree with Davros about the game feeling a little unpolished in some areas. The camera is a bit janky, the jumping animation is terrible etc...but the scope of the game is so vast, on what is probably not a massive budget, that I think they're fairly easy concessions to make.

Yeah, these aren't deal-breakers by any means. Just jars a bit if you compare the running animation to something like Beyond Good and Evil, or any of the 3D Zeldas where every footstep seems to properly connect with the ground. Shulk just seems to float in comparison.

They probably spent their budget in all the right areas though. I'm itching to get out and explore it all, just saved it on my way through to the 2nd Colony.

Nope. He will spawn so you have to wait.

Do some travelling in other areas, complete a side quest or two, change the day or night cycle and try saving and reloading.

If nothing of these works and spawning takes too long just kill everything in that particular area and then save/load. I think that 'll do the trick.

Yet another question about the same area as SteveH:

They should respawn but it can seem to take absolutely ages sometimes and I can't find a way to force it either, I've tried allsorts and not worked anything out consistently.

About timed quests, how timed are they really? I mean, is it just a case of progress too far in the story and they're gone or what? How can you tell if/when you're about to "kill" a load of timed quests? The distinction seems a bit pointless so far really because I've had none disappear and there's no sense of urgency.

While I agree, I'm just happy to be able to jump in an RPG. You generally can't do that in RPGs for some reason.

Don't forget that this is not an action adventure and the animation in games like Dragon Age or Bethesda's titles is not really much better.

I cannot believe I've spent 45+ hours on this game in just over two weeks. That's nearly two full days! The last time I remember obsessing over an RPG this much was Shining Force II on the Megadrive (I feigned illness to get time off school to play that).

You need to start worrying when you hit the 99 hour mark in just over 2 weeks.

As for the jumping thing, sure it's a little unpolished but as people have said, it's such a rarity to be able to jump in a game such as this that I don't think it ever gets old when you take a screaming, running jump off a high ledge like the one at the top of Tephra Cave or in Frontier Village.

Conversly, I'll never forget that moment on the Bionis Leg when I got to the edge and thought " I wonder if I really can fall off the edge.....oh". -_-

Leveled up to lvl 4. Arrived in Colony 9. Put the VO on Japanese. Bought the controller. Bring it!

EDIT: Managed to get a handful of collectibles on the way to Colony 9. Should I sell them or keep collecting them to get a reward?

Keep them! You can trade them, you can gift them, you can complete quests with them.

But if you want to sell them, make sure you register them in the collectopedia first (you get rewards when you complete an area or a category).

It'd look a damn sight better if you took a dive off a big platform into water rather than just falling the whole way in your standing animation though. OK, there'd be difficulties regarding water depth and so on but I'd like a dive anim regardless of whether you're going to hit the ground or fly out in to the depths of nothing, because that'd never get old.

Speaking of the collectopaedia, for the ocd among you, I had an interesting exchange with a non-named npc who mentioned that there's a blank page in there which is only filled through trading for unique items with other npcs.

Problem is there are that bloody many I can't recognise what's rare and what isn't :(

Yeah, like in Ocarina.

Money isn't an issue due to masses of loot in general so I keep about ten of everything bar equipment & gems, just in case, like.

I agree with you there but there's something to be said about the thought of your characters, saviours of the colonys, running around yelling to each other joyfully, leaping off a ledge and then totally non-emotionally falling like an expressionless statue down into the depths/oblivion.

That something being that it's shit, presumably. Although I could see some merit if Reyn goes "What a bunch of jokers!" as you plummet to your doom.

If I'm understanding things correctly regarding the collectopaedia: If you get multiple Black Kiwi's (just to name an example) you can enter one of em' into the list but sell the others? Once entered into the Collectopeadia you can't remove stuff right?

You're correct in that assumption. If you have two items and enter one in the collectopaedia, you're left with one excess item. If you're planning on doing any of the optional sidequests/affinity building, you're better off keeping the spare items though.

Just reached the 'twist' about 50 hours in. I say twist, it was blatantly obvious

Fiora was the girly Mechonis.

I'm in the area after that now. The

Valak Mountains.

While it isn't much to look at in the daytime, at night it's beautiful. Not what I was expecting at all.

Does anyone know how far into the game I am? I'm hoping that I'm only halfway. After all, after exploring the Bionis, there's still the whole of the Mechonis to explore, right?

To my current knowledge, given that I haven't finished either, you have another

7-9 areas

left to explore.

In terms of length; maybe just over half, perhaps slightly closer to two thirds of the way through.

The area you're in just now

reminds me a lot of the snowy mountain from Majora's Mask, especially with the music at night. Not to mention there are some cracking views of the whole area, especially when one quest asks you to walk along a mountain ridge. Also, have fun playing with the ice slide when you find it!

This game is brilliant isn't it? I've hammered about 35 hours in now and have reached

Imperial City

. I've been mopping up sidequests. I find this game a bit weird in that I'm worried about levelling up too much on sidequests before tackling the story quests, therefore making the story quests too easy. Like, in this area, I'm already about 5 levels higher than all the monsters so it's easy going. But on the other hand, I don't want to do the story quests too quickly as I feel I'm missing out on a massive part of the game if I don't explore, which leads to combat which leads to sidequest completion. Also I'm paranoid about the timed quests running out so I spend hours trying to do them all. Am I taking the right approach or is the story long enough that I can do a bit less sidequesting between each story quest? What % would you say I am through the story? Ta

At that particular point in the game, I was pretty much reaching an area and finishing all the available quests before even thinking about touching the story. It does lead to a slight advantage over some of the bosses and monsters but then again, depending on your team, I've heard of people struggling with bosses that I sailed through at the same level.

However, just to point out, at some point the quests do stop coming so thick and fast and your levels do eventually hit a point where they match up with the areas monsters more evenly so you won't have to worry about being too overlevelled for the final boss or any additional challenges.

You probably have a lot more leeway of the timed quests than you think, judging by the responses that people have made before. So if you're of a mind, you can probably carry on with more of the story if you're so minded.

In terms of how far through the game you are, I'd say you're probably just under halfway.

Edit: Also, I'm sorry for posting so much in this thread. :(
