Xenoblade Chronicles - Wii

One thing that will never cease to 'amaze' me on rllmuk are the posts where members rave on about the status of their orders.

4 pages of dull order status updates is a go!

And those 4 pages of status updates are made just that bit more exciting when some miserable prick makes a complaint post about it. Don't you agree?

ShopTo-tastic! They haven't let me down yet.

Its going to be SO good getting stuck into a "proper" RPG again.. Also means I can put the past few weeks of passing the time with Dungeon Seige 3 behind me! In comparison this is going to be fucking immense!! :D

Well, we got that out the way nice and quick :-)

I don't think I ever played a RPG that wasn't Fallout 3 which is obviously different, so don't know if this is just a standard thing, but I love how there's three dudes running everywhere in formation in the trailers. I keep thinking of the bits in the Lord of the Rings movies where the elf shouts "hurry, Gimli!" or whatever.

No need to get all uptight about it. Sheesh!

Yay nice one.

When I get the moneys I'll buy it but I won't say anything on where I ordered it from and whether or not it's been sent my way or not. Ha!

Isn't there a preorder shipping whatever thread for stuff like this? Really, I don't mind talking about tracking numbers and delivery dates and stuff. I find it insanely fascinating. Will Shop To pull through? Have Play let you down AGAIN? what is Amazon like?

I think there was a pre order and shipping thread, but I really don't understand why it bothers people if there are some posts about being hyped about the game and getting giddy that their order has been sent. At least I know some people will possibly have the game tomorrow, like me, and I'll be able to have a discussion with those people about early impressions. For me it's not about Shopto pulling through yet again, it's just being super psyched that the game that I've been watching in Japanese and not understanding is actually on it's way to my grubby little mitts. :)

I feel like telling my personal preorder story: I preordered the set with the swanky red controller. But then there's been a massive fuck up with pay and whatnot. So there really wasn't any money on my debit card when GAME wanted payment. So I don't know when I'll be able to buy Xenoblade. Which is pretty sad really :-(. I just hope it's soon.

But what's worse a thread full of pre-order updates, or a thread full of complains about pre-order updates? It's a close call.

Personally I'm just chuffed some of us will get to play it tomorrow (hopefully). It's a game that wasn't even on my radar until a week or so ago, the only thing I'd seen up to that point was the cover art (which I was actually contemplating posting in worst boxart thread :) ) So for it to arrive looking great and reviewing so well is a total bonus.

Cheers once again to Rllmuk for the headsup on something that would have otherwise passed me by.

Despite my collectors edition arriving this week I couldn't help myself so have had a quick dabble with it after downloading the ISO. I think I'll be setting my Wii up in the bedroom on the CRT. Can't wait to get stuck into it, but on a 50inch screen it looks a bit rough :(

I just re-placed my order.

What's another £30 on a credit card?

It just looks fantastic and it's all any RPG fan can seemingly talk about these days. Granted my track record of finishing JRPGs isn't amazing either, but with nothing else on the go I hope to give this a fair shot. I tend to lose the thread of them if I don't play for a while (Eternal Sonata was one such culprit, Star Ocean another though I did find that a bit shallow)..

I just checked the CE contents. A red classic controller and some posters, is that the one?

Since I've already a black classic, nice to know that I've not missed out on anything incredibly neat. (I don't use posters)

Yeah that's the one. Although apparently because I ordered online I don't get the posters (not that I knew anything about them when I ordered anyway!)

Has the questions whether or not this is playable with a Gamecube controller been answered yet?

I'm fairly sure it isn't, which is what prompted me to order the collectors edition as I didn't have a classic controller. That plus I fancied a nice red one :)

Ggggnnnnn....

Really stuggling to resist this at the moment. I'm not sure I have the time to dedicate to it and we're getting into the mental season. But on the other hand, this strikes me as something that'll vanish off the face of the Earth next year. DILEMMA!

No, you can't. The Classic Controller Pro works lovely with it though.

After a quick half hour play, the graphics are definitely rough. Tales of Symphonia 2 looked better and that was a couple of years ago now. The voice acting is awful. Did someone say it's possible to change the dialogue option to Japanese? It's not something I usually do, but the voice work is that bad, I think I will if I can. However the sense of scale in the opening battle is immense and the combat seems pretty fluid with some interesting ideas. And the music so far is fantastic, almost Ghibli-esqe.

I want to play further, which is a good start, I guess.

The voice acting feels slightly out of place, but I've heard much, much worse - some of the disconnect is from hearing an array of English accents in a JRPG. At least give it a little time to get to know the characters before you switch. I was tempted in the opening couple of hours, but after a while I grew to like their voices.

And it's only really in cutscenes that it looks rough. Shulk in particular, for some reason, has a face like a painted egg. some areas look great - when you get into a wide open space and can see a vast plain stretching out in front of you, it's actually rather pretty.
