NHL 11

Okay, I sold some stuff on ebay and picked up NHL 10. It should be here tomorrow. If I can get into it and learn what's what then I might get the new one if it's meant to be good.

Expect some ridiculous noob questions about what the fuck's happening in the coming days.

Great choice. Looked at my hours played at this game...... 202 hours and haven't played it in over 6 weeks also

It will though take a bit to get used to the game, especially scoring goals. I'd recommend using the R stick to shoot rather the the buttons. It it harder at first but is so much better once you get used to it. You might be good trying to get those who have it to play a few friendly's with mic on to talk through the game while playing.

Okay, I sort of get the basics and think I have a handle on the most important aspects of rules but can anyone help me with the following controls and in what context I should use them?

When do I "deke" and what is this? (Is it like a dummy to try to move the goalie?)

When do I do the LB and deke move? What's this for?

When should I press A to lift the stick etc?

What should I be doing to tackle? Poke check? Barge with Right stick?

What should I be doing to improve my scoring to shots ratio?

What other moves should I be doing? I pretty much just use pass and the right stick at the moment.

Cheers.

You can use the deke to (move the puck but keep it under control) to outwit the opposition players or goaltender (but no need to use it too often to start with)

LB + Deke is for doing a loose deke (moving the puck by letting it go then collecting it again)

I never really use the stick lift that often, but if you insist, you can are best trying to use it to stop a player getting a clean shot or pass.

Only use a check (barge) when you are 100% you will connect (near the boards, not at open ice will give you a better chance of hitting)

Poke checks are effective when along side or facing a player while skating backwards. If you use it from behind then you risk tripping a player.

You can also use Y and pin a player against the boards

To improve the shooting, we really need to know what you are doing already. With the rink being so small compared to a football pitch the temptation is to shoot on site. Try and avoid this and shift the puck around. Watch some highlights of real games to get a good idea of how to open up a good opportunity.

Also... lets sort something out for a live tutorial.

ooooo EASHL practice, that sounds like the ticket, seems like the things I wouldve like to have seen in NHL 10, are in NHL 11

It is the thing we were crying out for. Means we can go and practice plays before playing ranked matches.

Especially on breakouts, which is out weakest area in my opinion. (I for example can be too eager to open a gap between me and the D)

I'm a winger, but i could move to centre this yeear depending on where i'm needed. What are you guys short on? I could start playing a ridiculous amount of D on NHL 10 if you guys need d-men for nhl 11?

It is a shame that the game doesn't cater for lines yet.

Essentially we are looking to be set up as follows:

bradigor - Charliemouse - mickmarmalade

SJVinnie - SirSpanksta

Thrillhench

That is if everyone is on (tends to be how things have worked out of late), but who knows where we will be most comfortable in the next game.

We also have plenty of other guys who play fairly regular. So maybe we will look at two or more teams.

I think we will do a role call when the game comes out and see who will be playing and what their preferences are.

Don't I get to play too?;)

In all seriousness though, I think the splitting of the team into "lines" was what really made a few of the lads wind down their playing of NHL 10. I (and some of the other lads) would like the opportunity to be able to jump in a game with any of you but with the lines it is difficult to do so.

Hopefully with the practice mode, it will mean we can have a few minutes to gel before we play ranked, whereas before we were losing because it would take a game or two for us to gel with the randomness of it.

Lets see how it goes when it all kicks off again :)

Tuesday? I thought it was Thursday?

It's about time. I've really come to boiling point with 10. The lag in BAP is just ridiculous (for me). The CPU AI is a joke an so offline games just lack interest. That leaves online VS which right now is just a glitchfest and more frustrating than enjoyable.
