Yup, they've released a new self-titled album. I really liked their first, which always surprised me with its consistency when I listened to it. This one's even better (or more fucked up, I you prefer), with not one truly bad or boring song to be found. I especially like Baptism and Violent Dreams (posted below). Hopefully I can catch a performance this year, they were one of the highlights of Lowlands two years back.

Wasn't their first album self-titled as well?

Fucking hipsters.

Deliberate, so new hipsters downloading their albums will inevitably have a different version to old hipsters and the old hipsters can laugh at them for saying "Crystal Castles' new Crimewave track is amazing!".

I downloaded it back when it leaked, and my first thought was that the mix sounded a little anemic, missing the characteristic warmth that chiptune stuff usually has, and that the decent stuff on their first album had. I hoped it was just a crappy rip, or an early mix. But no, the album sounds exactly the same. I find it really annoying to listen to, as a result, even though there's some good tunes there.

I dislike the new album. The only tracks I don't find annoying are Doe Deer, Intimate, Empathy, Not In Love and I Am Made of Chalk. It [imo] has lost the dreamlike melancholy and tension of some of their earlier tracks and her voice doesn't sound the same. It seems more upbeat.

I quite like the album though track 3 is straight up ear rape and is annoying as all fuck. I'm still of the opinion that Kap Bambino do this same sort of thing better but I expect I'm in a minority here.

Really? Strange, I'm finding it difficult to pick a favourite song they're all so good.

I like that it they've gone for a different world of sounds but kept the same utterly bleak feel to the music.

Wrath of God should be absolutely insane live.

Their stuff has never been mixed particularly well, and on a scale from 'raw' to 'thrown together' this is edging too close to the latter. Their previous albums has a couple of great tracks among some serious dross, and this seems to basically just be the dross this time around. No good hooks, all a bit homogenous and dull. Think I'm going to pass.
