Mario Kart 3DS

What difference does it make how wide the tracks are? Its not as if the racing line suddenly stretches and you can all trundle around together

It takes away the sensation of speed and removes the need for razor sharp steering to avoid falling into pits/lava/water and the like. I much prefer the tighter courses of the old games.

The new videos look really great. Nintendo certainly have been busy.

All I really need to know now is has the despised snaking been removed??

Well, I see blue sparks in that video, so it looks like it'll still be there.

It's a shame they've never tried to emulate the Super Mario Kart/Super Circuit style in the 3D games. The handling in the 3D games is too tight, the tracks are too wide, and with the exception of MK64 sliding is horrendously overpowered. The coin mechanic also adds a neat bit of complexity.

Well yeah, if it's possible to dodge the blue shell it's not so bad, but when you're trying to get the maximum rating or whatever and you've got to get around the track within a certain time - Blue shells completely ruin it!

I mean an absolute punishment that can't be avoided just for being good? What the fuck were they smoking?

The courses also end up incredibly bland just to accommodate the mammoth width of the racetrack. You won't get interesting track design if it's hampered by a design decision to employ tracks which are 57 cars wide and full of shit boost ramps which add nothing to the race itself.

When have you not thought that about a Nintendo game?

when it's called Animal Crossing

there's a way of avoiding the blue shell in MK Wii is there not - but it's really hard? Like you have to bust some kind of move at exactly the right time... I think it's more a glitch though than designed in avoidance strategy.

Animal Crossing is so wildly full of opportunity, especially on a StreetPassin', SpotPassin' online handheld that I may well have to weave a huge wicker Mario to burn if Nintendo give us nothing but the same game yet again. In 3D.

EDIT: It's impossible to derail this thread when the tracks are so wide.

Animal Crossing could have been THE online / connectivity game on the Wii. I think we even had a thread outlining all the cool stuff that could be done if they turned it into some kind of MMO/Home hybrid.

But then we got pretty much a port of the DS version. So far the only innovation I've read about the new version is that you can now also decorate the OUTSIDE of your house. Whoop de fucking doo!

A Nintendo fan who doesn't like Animal Crossing? You're dead to me now Scott :P

to be fair - I really enjoyed it on the Gamecube... but they've barely done anything to the format since.

Animal Crossing should be ALWAYS available on your device via a download, not with a cart. It should use Miis and the stuff you earn (hats and shit) in Animal Crossing should be seen in any game that uses Miis, including online stuff... Streetpass and Spotpass are perfect for Animal Crossing, you could visit peoples towns as you pass, leave them messages

I fully anticipate that Animal Crossing on the 3DS will be yet another wasted opportunity.

The DS version was the one I got first and played a lot, and it had nice but limited online functionality. There were nice elements, like visiting each others villages and swapping stuff and how the animals would take designs or sayings from the people visiting you. But that was just scratching the surface, and for some bizarre reason Nintendo never went all the way with it.

You need a mushroom I think, and to turn and use it at the *exact* right time. Of course the likelihood of being in the lead, with a mushroom, getting blue-shelled, and being able to dodge it is practically 0.

I take your overall point, but, to be fair, "whoop de fucking doo" could be applied to the ends of most sentences describing individual gameplay features of Animal Crossing.
