There's a left field theory that he IS the main baddie, which actually has some merit when you get some of the later audio logs and listen to how he pulled certain strings to get things the way he wanted them.

Ooooh, that sounds good. I think in the last audio log I heard between The Riddler and Strange, Hugo had the upper hand as he knew Batman's identity. Still got another fifty or so trophies to collect so I'll keep plugging away.

Okay. Last Riddler Trophy to get - fly 30m above water while maintaining a height of less than 5m above water. Only managed 22m so far...any tips? HELP ME! ITS MY LAST TROPHY!!

I got that one when I did the AR mission that requires you to fly through a tunnel just over the water (in the direction of the GCPD building). Might be worth trying it there because at least you're forced to be close to the water there. As long as you have plenty of speed it should be fine.

Also it's up on steam or something now, I'm not sure if this is news, just curious why the thread hasn't been invaded yet by the framerate brigade.

I've been too busy having fun with the game (shits good yo'). I do hope I did not miss any super exciting Xbox vs PS3, pre-order DLC/shipping discussion or exciting texture resolution after installing talk.

Anyway, this is a GAMES forum (kinda..). If people want to talk about PC GAMES then we can and we will. If we want to talk techy stuff about them, then we will. If we want to post stupidly high resolution screen shots (real screen shots, not 'photo mode'), then we will. If we want to have a bit of fun with the silly PC master race thing, then we will. What can you do about it? Absolutely nothing at all apart from impotently bluster and whine.

:)

Completed the New Game Plus last night. That is a very satisfying play-through: exactly harder enough to make you feel awesome, but not so hard it's just an exercise in frustration. One of the very few games I've ever gone through again on Hard.

This.

I've said it several times, its near perfect in terms of flow and challenge. First time through is great for story, second time through is great for the experience of being Batman. New Game Plus FTW!

Outstanding.

So can you play the game through on normal then play NG+ on hard?

Kind of, NG+ doesn't have a specific difficulty attached. It just is 'harder' by default.

From the AC forums...

HOW DO I UNLOCK NEW GAME PLUS?

Finish the game on normal or hard mode

WHAT DO I START NEW GAME PLUS WITH?

ALL of your gadgets from the end of your first play though, ALL of your XP (including unlocked upgrades)

WHAT IS DIFFERENT?

No counter icons on thugs

Different Thug Levels: tougher thugs are available from the start of the game

Different Thug Configuration

Increased difficulty Bosses : Bosses will be even more cunning

HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM HARD MODE?

The main difference is that you will have ALL of your gadgets and xp so even though the enemies may be tougher you will have the technical upper hand

IS NEW GAME PLUS ONE DIFFICULTY SETTING?

Yes, regardless of whether you finish the game on normal or hard new game plus will be the same difficulty

CAN I STILL REPLAY THE GAME WITHOUT NEW GAME PLUS?

Yes you can, however you won't start with all your gadgets

I sold my copy just now.

After the final credits, the draw to go back and mop up side quests and riddler challenges was completely gone. I'll keep my savegames though and will probably pick this up again in a couple of months if I can get an obscenely cheap copy for another run through the game (during which I'll do the additional stuff) or NG+.

Got mixed feelings in hindsight. While playing it I was amazed by it and it felt like GOTY material, but once completed the story turned out to be less memorable than Arkham Asylum and I think it suffered a bit for being less tight and focussed. The open world style hub added quite a lot and was fun to navigate but I'm undecided if the tradeoff was a positive one.

I think you've missed out a bit. Like I said in your "After the credits..." thread, the Batman games have been an exception for me and I've actually mustered up the motivation to go back to them. I think I've now played as long on the other stuff as I did on the story mode and I've probably prefered the former. Some of the Riddler trophies are simply genius. Elevated it from a 'good' to 'outstanding' in my Big Book o' Ratings.

Yep, I loved the campaign and think the improved mechanics and added freedom lift it above AA, but the side-quests, puzzles, challenges and New Game+ are the delicious icing on the cake. To be entirely fair, I have more fun with the Riddler secrets and puzzle rooms than I had with Portal 2. If you want to mop up everything in a few days it might be a little too much, but doing a couple of secrets and challenges a day is tremendous fun. Superb easter eggs as well. Still GotY for me.

I'll probably go to back it some other time. As it is, I spent a LOT of time on this game and maybe it's just a bit of Batman fatigue too. And I've got so much else to play at the moment.

I couldn't be bothered doing most of the side stuff either, a lot of it just felt like a chore. Now it's been a month or so since I've finished it, I think it was the second biggest disappointment of the year behind Uncharted 3 for me. Neither of them were bad or anything, just totally failed to live up to both the hype and their predecessors.

I've done original and NG+ and all side missions (apart from the later augmented reality stuff) so it's time to call it a day. Not bothering with the Riddler Challenges - some time limits on stuff didn't half put me off. So, it looks like i'll trade it in for Zelda Skyward Sword at the weekend.

Sorry if this has already been answered but has this unlocked for the UK on Steam yet? I've had it sitting in my games list using one of the codes from nvidia for a few weeks, had expected it to start pre-loading yesterday but nothing happened, it just said it wasn't released. Had to use one of those links that force it to download (never used one of these before, hopefully it won't stuff anything up).

Edit : In case anyone is wondering, the answer is yes.

Funny how this game divides opinion. I can see why people prefer the first, but personally I find it hard to go back to AA.

It feels so liberating to grapnel boost into the air and float through and over Arkham City. I'd really miss the added freedom and mobility. Same with the combat. Fights are just not the same without ultra stuns, gadgets to tag into combos, beatdowns, weapon breaking and multiple counters. Then there are the new moves like the slide, all the cool new gadgets to use during fights and predator sequences, the side-quests, the superior boss fights and better rogue gallery in general, and the much better puzzles (you really have to use your brain for quite a few of them in this and they do an admirable job of adding lots of variety). Add the lovely easter eggs, the Arkham City stories and the superior music and you have a much better game in my opinion. Oh, and that song of course. :)

Will be interesting to see if Rocksteady keeps this style of gameplay, makes it even more open or goes back to the style of the first, but at least they should be applauded for not doing the same thing twice.

Protip for new PC players: (pc geekery, not game-related spoiler)

to force the intro movies to skip, just rename the following files:

<install dir>\Batman Arkham City\BmGame\MoviesStereo\NVIDIA_TWIMTBP_Bats.usm

and

<install dir>\Batman Arkham City\BmGame\Movies\bac_logo.usm

I hate having to wait 30+ seconds to get to the main menu!

Ok proper impressions:

- epic intro

- it's so massive!

I'm going to have to park it for now while though, until I'm done with Skyrim (well, 'bored' of Skyrim may be more accurate!). I need to give this my full attention.

Brilliant though.
