GSC Game World announces S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 - the official sequel to best-selling game series - in development now. A completely new multi-platform technology developed by GSC will make the core of the game.

"After the official sales of the series exceeded 4 million copies worldwide, we had no doubts left to start creating a new big game in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe. This will be the next chapter of the mega-popular game players expect from us" - said Sergiy Grygorovych, CEO of GSC Game World.

The game is scheduled for release in 2012.

Not much else is known at the moment.

Really hoping it does come to consoles, I've always admired the Stalker games from afar and don't really have the time/money to invest in a PC capable of running them.

Brer will be very pleased. :D

Oh my oh my, that is excellent news! :omg:

I absolutely loved the first game but never managed to get anywhere close to finishing it as I was only ever able to play it on my little brother's PC in fits & spurts. Right up there with the very best of them in terms of its bleak & depressing atmosphere & there were a ton of good gameplay ideas in there too.

Fingers crossed that as it's coming to console too it will face a more stringent bug-fixing phase.

I want guys sat round campfires with guitars singing in Russian again please.

Between themselves, Stalker: SOC, Stalker: Clear Sky, and Stalker: Call of Pripyat hit all the right notes. The trick for GSC will be realising what works from each of those games and taking the best of it, otherwise they're just going to keep building on a faulty foundation.

Wasn't keen on the large emphasis on factions in Clear Sky.. For me Call of Pripyat was a step in the right direction (well the first two thirds atleast)... If they stick to a similar format they are onto a definite winner.

Look forward to more info.

Is the first one worth playing? I got it as part of the THQ summer pack but not gotten round to installing/playing...

Oh god..dont ge me started, ill never stop

Yes its worth playing, its one of the best FPS/RPG hybrid shooters ever made. Download and install the stalker complete 2009 mod pack to ramp up the graphics and atmosphere and prepare to play the bleakest, most depressing, most absorbing FPS ever. I couldnt tell you how many hours i put into the original. Id just fire it up and roam around the zone, its just that atmospheric

Hell yes, I'm hoping the sequel will be a bit more open ended and perhaps what the original had intended to be in the first place. I enjoyed STALKER a lot but admittedly, especially at launch, I felt a bit let down in comparison to what the game could have been.

They have built a fantastic engine though, it ages brilliantly and modders seem to be able to push more and more out of it.

Well it is a bit of a marmite game! Think fallout with no humour

But for atmosphere, its second to none. Just wait ti lyou get to the underground tunnels. Bricks will be shat.

And the gaming journalists of the world emit a collective groan at the prospect of another two years typing out "S.T.A.L.K.E.R."

Still though, good news! From all I've read of the first game, it clearly was something quite special. I must get around to building that gaming PC so I can finally have a proper whack at it.

Did they ever fix the combat in STALKER? I remember it being fucked because the AI just had a single accuracy value regardless of pose, action or weapon.

So I could be prone, aiming down the ironsights of a high quality machine gun firing at a dude sauntering towards me with a shit-quality version of the same weapon, firing from the hip, and he'd hit me more times that I'd hit him.

The complete 2009 mod has accuracy mods built into it alright

I've entirely missed out on all stalkers before as they've been pc only. So pleased they've gone multi-platform, I just hope they incorporate the improvements made during previous pc mods.

With a new engine and all im sure they will. I just hope that multi platform development doesnt mean they comprimise on the difficulty or lack of hand holding. Stalker is essentially the demons souls of FPS'es...it just wouldnt feel right if it had an easy mode

  • 2 months later...

Create your own Stalker 2 quest, GSС are running a competition to send your ideas and description of a quest and it could find its way into the game.

Vaguely cheeky way of getting people to work for them for free. Still, hopefully it'll improve the 'escort/kill/fetch' quests which have plagued every iteration of the Stalker series to greater or lesser extents.
