anyone else think the ferari is a bit slower than the mclaren?

edit - Thanks for the tips posted in here - choosing the lowest downforce default setup, changing 7th to 222 and setting the engine to fastest on the dpad are all really helpful :)

Here goes. Racing against Meerman's ghost was really helpful. You're a couple of tenths down in the first sector (probably thanks to my traction control coming out of the first hairpin) but make it all up and more in the fast chicanes. Bah :)

1m 45.503 mexos2 - C/A/W/Xbox/

Corner markers only, (for now!) everything else off.

Can't get any faster without the ghost car distracting me. Is there any way of deleting your ghost? I've looked to see if you can turn ghosts off and unbelievably it looks like you can't. :-( Recon I've got a full second off that in me too.

I think I saw it in the options somewhere in the 'My F1' section in the paddock.

I tried this with a Virgin after a McClaren and it was a shocking 10mph slower off the straight coming out of Eau Rouge.

So they do differ from each other?

My main tip is to take the right-handed bit extra tight (don't go fully over the inside of the kerb, mind - that screws you over) so you can get a straighter run at the left. It's all about getting the power down as soon as you can so it drives you on over the S/F line.

The new Bus Stop is a total pain in arse, any strategies from the quick guys?

Totally.

My main problem though is braking into Rivage:

I either brake too soon and enter waaaay to slow or lock up and sail off into the kitty litter. It's SO easy to lock up here. Any help mucho appreciated! Especially a good braking set up!! I need to get this sorted before we race - I'm only making the corner 50% of the time right now.. :(

I notched the brake balance back to 49 - 51 and that seemed to help a little. It's a tricky corner, for sure - I usually find the best way to do it is run a little wide on entry and then cut in for a late apex. Make sure you're smooth on applying the throttle though as it'll kick you around if you stamp on it.

I come out of Malmedy in 4th, then change to 5th on the straight, then as soon as my Driving Aid line goes red I smoothly brake whilst changing down to 2nd (it's easy to lock the wheels if you quickly go from 5th to 2nd whilst slamming on the brakes). I ride Rivage in 2nd hugging the inside, then accelerate to 3rd gear as soon as I see the red/white strip on the left side of the road. Up to 4th, cruise halfway around the next left-hander then full throttle out and onto the straight.

I wonder if this has anything to do with using auto gears? Is semi auto (using the paddles on the official wheel) any quicker - or better with engine braking? I'm not sure my hand is strong enough for that get (recovering from tendons cut in my finger) but i'll give it a try if the difference in performance/ driving experience is a lot better.

The main difference I found when I used the pad with auto gears for the first time in comparison with the wheel and manual gears was that I kept overshooting the entry to corners so yeah, I suspect it might be. You'll probably be getting a lot less engine braking with the auto gears.
