The F1 2010 Weekly Time Trial

It's deffo worth a try. I compromise myself a bit by having to have big, soft brakes & more grip or I just loose it on the tight stuff. If/when I get better at the top of the circuit i can try and bring back some more speed. I'm also trying to get a car that's not on a knife edge to stop me spinning all day come Tuesday's championship ;)

When I first got the game I was spinning out all the time, put a bit of Traction Control on and the spinning of halved.

Meerman's ghost just destroys me on the straights even when I've got the lowest downforce possible. God knows what I'm doing but I can't get my times down.

you may have already tried this but, as suggested earlier, use the dpad to set the engine to fastest and up 7th gear in the settings slightly?

OK this should proably go in the Embarrassing things you don't know thread, but how the F do you get to the car setup settings? I must be amazingly thick!

Edit: Bloody hell, found it by watching YouTube (it's in the monitor in front of you, last option)

What's wrong with you kids these days? Back in the day, we found our way through all the options ourselves when we first got a game, see what everything does, AND read the manual. But these days, you all want other people to tell you, instead.

So there was no single moment that you thought "hey, it's a monitor on top of my car...let's see if I can use it!"?

Sorry to be such a cock about it, but it seems to be a trend these days where people don't find out stuff for themselves anymore. :P

I just checked the manual again, it is in there sorry. When I looked before I looked under Time Trial and Car Set Up and found nothing.

I had flicked through the monitor thing and thought you couldn't change anything in there (all the other screens are read-only I think). In real life you'd go to Engineer :hmm:

I did try to find it (including watching lots of YouTube footage). I'm just an idiot :hat:

Finally beat my McLaren PB with the Ferrari :D

Unfortunately it was by only 0.5 seconds :(

Wincho - ABS/TCSF/DRLC/A - 1:48.365

Still, beating your McLaren time is pretty impressive, I can't get close to mine using a Ferrari. So far that is, tomorrow's the closing date for this Time Trial so I'm gonna give it one last session tomorrow.

Decided to give in and turn some assists on:

morco - ABS/TCSM/M - 1:44.671

Now that I know how to tune, that's with 6th 3 notches longer, and both wings set to minimum downforce (1).

I swear I'm quicker with that min. downforce setting. Can't be right!

I've not got to the point where I can adjust wing during the lap, it's too hard on pad I think!

Ah myoozikk, you're using a wheel. Particularly with the middle sector in mind, have you tried turning in earlier?

I had hoped to post about this long ago in the Forza 3 thread. Depending on various things - including wheel latency (which can depend both on the wheel and on high feedback settings) and the time that it causes the virtual car to react (more a factor with the likes of Forza and the better of the PC sim games), it's possible to find that turn-in is needed a little earlier. It may depend how 'pointy' or not you have the car set-up, too. If you can imagine a comparison between the wallowing suspension of a 1960s road car compared with the near-instant reaction to input of a modern-day Formula One thoroughbred, you'll be able to see what I mean. I'm simplifying a lot, but the general point is there.

I've not seen let alone used the MS wheel, so it's not an 'in stone' statement - just one that might help, even in other games if not this one. Is there enough fine control in the wheel and game to allow for corrections and is it such that you can use the kerbs and outer reaches of the track (still within the white lines!) without suffering the ridiculous penalty that I'm used to with the pad?

Does anyone have any recommended tuning setups? I see the increase the overall top speed in the gear ratio thing, and the dpad engine > fast stuff, but if I pick the fastest quick setup then it seems to reset my top speed change. But then if I change that back, it seems to put me on the standard medium quick setup again which presumably I don't want but I don't understand any of the other in-depth changes you can make at all.

Anyway, in the meantime:

stefcha - ABS/TCSF/DRLC/M/W - 1:44.514

Stefcha, unless you've got two lead feet, perhaps trying turning all that stuff off for a start?

Are you actually activating the set-up (getting the tick on the engineer's menu)? I've had it happen a couple of times, though I believe it was just me being a numpty - selecting the option and then exiting that menu before confirming the change. I'm not certain of that but especially as it hasn't happened recently, do think it's what I did.

Nice improvement between those two posts, by the way. :)

P.S. Meers has front-mounted guns and a rear-facing oil slick machine! I don't know that I even dare tell you about... his wheels.

The Ferrari isn't that good...I've already beaten this time with the Mac Larry.

Meerman - M/W/360 - 1:42.007

Kudos, I just can't find that last half second. Truth me told since I did my hot lap I haven't been albe to even match it. Ghost always gets in the way :-(

In the absence of a Smith tune, yes, yes I do ;)

Alas, I'm not using one either. Smith just left after trying the game this weekend. He loves how it's made, but he had a hard time getting used to the handling for some reason. Maybe it was the pressure of other people (Römer and I) watching and getting distracted by us talking. Some say he only at his best after all the bystanders have been shot. he's still not sure whether he's going to buy this or not.

Have a go at my McLaren time. It's 1:41.9...something.

You know what would be interesting, if once the time trial and race is done & dusted that we all share the set ups we used. Would help us all in the online world racing against other peeps. I'll happily share mine.

Good idea!

Hmm, me racing without ABS is truly a thing of terror, as some of the Forza people may be able to attest ;) As for two lead feet, I just use the one because I can't unthink my day to day driving action.

Yeah, but when I select a quick setup then go make some changes on top of that (to gear rations or whatever) am I still getting the benefit of the quick setup I chose as well? What I want is the convenience of whatever config settings the fastest quick setting makes and then be able to tweak up my gear ratio on top of that, I was a bit unsure if I was actually getting that.

edit: my last run out showed it does work like that (as in, my changes do go on top of the quick changes), which is good :)

Also, why the hell aren't my times I posted above saved?! It's listing my fastest time on the leaderboards as the 1.47 or whatever that I started my session on which is a bit confusing. I did them as posted, honest!

Right, I've been racing ghosts by going to the leaderboards and selecting a ghost then doing what I assumed was the time trial (race this ghost) from there. This seems to not record your time in the leaderboards, although it does still have my ghost saved with my decent time at least. It really should save my time to the leaderboards though, shouldn't it? After all, it's still under the time trial menu.
