NBA2K11_360_FoB-350x500.jpg

Michael Jordan! Gone are the days of looking up 'Create A Player Stats' online!

Are there are any other new additions? I haven't been following the buildup much this year, even though the NBA 2K series always winds up being my most played game of the year.

Anyway, it's 'out there' now. Anyone playing yet?

Having played the demo of this and NBA elite 11, I prefer elite mainly due to the controls. NBA jam is a great bonus as well!

Are you crazy , the NBA Elite demo was fucking shocking and the new control system just doesnt work,

The NBA2k games have always been the best basketball games and EA's have always been miles behind and judging by the demo's they isnt changing anytime soon.

Well if you want a game where you can dribble through the whole defence then get the EA one, If you want a decent sim of the sport then get 2K's game.

Review scores mean shit, Madden has been getting great reviews for years but even the new one isnt as good as NFL 2k5 which is six years old now.

Sorry Brad I traded in 2K10 to go towards NHL11.

Seems I am not the only person who thinks NBA Elite stinks.

Ah bugger. Sure it'll be cheaper now anyway.

Had a few games on this last night...

I skipped the 2K10 year as I didn't have a console (RRoD :/ ) so things that appear new to me might have been new last year.

Total Control Passing! Tap RB to bring up icon passing, but HOLD the player button instead, and you can control that player rather than the one with the ball.

Easy pass faking with B. Sounds simple but seems like it's going to be ridiculously useful.

One thing that annoyed me and my brother (I only ever play this with him on 2 player local matches) on the team selection screen switching your team causes the other persons to disappear for a short time while it refreshes.

And the new old teams are a great change from the awkward 70s West etc. that were there before.

This might just be one of the finest sports games I've ever played. It's a bit of a culture shock, being easily used to rampaging down the court and scoring a dunk in many of the older basketball games I've played, but the sheer amount of detail which has gone into this...wow...

I didn't play 2K10 but more or less everyone I've heard comparing the two suggests that this year's iteration is a far, far superior game in just about every conceivable way. So...something worth considering for those who might be holding off until next year!

I'm actually finding this thread a little depressing. For some reason the box art with him on it is just reminding me that if/when I buy another basketball there'll be no Sonics in it. :(

I tend to be someone who'd rather play the actual sports than their videogame representations, and I do manage to play a bit of football (every week) and basketball (occasionally), but I am tempted by this. I'm not his biggest fan, but the Jordan Mode does sound like fun, and I haven't had a good basketball game in years.

The problem is, I already know what'll happen. I'll start a season (no doubt with the Lakers or Heat, like 99.678% of the rest of the world's population), get bored, start a new season (with someone like the Bucks or Thunder, both of whom look like they'll be fun this year), get bored again, and then just sell it and NBA Jam. I just like a bit more escapism in my games at the moment, I guess.

Still, updates as to what this is like wouldn't go amiss when some of you get into it. I'll have a couple of weeks off over Giftmas, so if this is good...

A wrote on another site my impressions of the game since buying it last week. To long so i'll copy and paste it.

Ok, picked it up about a week ago but wanted to play it a bit before giving my impressions.

I've never really been a basketball fan and last years version was the 1st I picked up for a number of years. With a few other games coming out last year, I didn't really give it a chance and traded after a few weeks.

After reading all the reviews and comments about this years game, I got sucked in and decided to try it again. How glad I did, wow, just wow. This really is the best sports game package I have ever played [:o] Although NHL 11 is still and will be my favourite Sports game to play, 2K presentation totally blows EA out of the water.

When you load up the game for 1st time you start straight away with the Bulls against the Lakers when they played game 1 of the NBA finals in 1991. All the players are there and it's just fantastic :D .

There are loads of game options to choose and although player face animation looks a bit strange close up, playing the game, it really does look fantastic. The commentary is the best i've heard in any game, always seems to keep up with play and will even give reference to past games that a player as played.

The crowed is also great. I was playing at home and I was leading and the crowd were pretty noisy but when thte other team pulled back and I started missing shots, the crowd started booing a bit and generally let you know they weren't happy. Anyway, as the game went on, it was really close and near the end I shot a 3pt and they crowd just went crazy. It really felt like you were there and made the experience that bit more believable.

The presentation during the 1/4 and 1/2 breaks is also very good and interesting and at the end of the game, there's not only highlights of the game, but also highlights of player of the game and other player highlights which is good.

Be warned though, this game is hard, i've probably played around 12 games on pro and not won a game yet  I played on rookie last night and only won 46-44. The defence of the teams are very good and the offensive AI is believable also, just moving the ball round court and shooting realistic shots. You certainly won't be able just to dribble the ball down court and score, no way. You really have to move the ball and plan chances.

The animations of the player moves are great and there's been a number of times i've pulled off a great move and felt fantastic watching it again and again in the replay :D.

When you control the player near the 3pt line, each player has 5 bars and depending upon the player and position of him, the higher the bars are coloured, the better chance that player will have of scoring. The number of options for passing/shooting are really scary to begin with and it's definitely worth spending time in practice mode and getting used to them.

I've only been playing quick games so far but I am going to start a season and play through it.

It really is far better than I was expecting and although like I said earlier, I still prefer NHL11 (for gameplay) this really does push it close but the overall package is just phenomenal.

Nice one for the write up. Be keen to hear your impressions the more you play. Am thinking of picking up a BB game though the last one I played was probably on the mega drive with the whole 'HE'S ON FIREEE' thing going on. Happy days.

Gonna wait till this drops in price and see if people still like it after a bit more play.

Apparently I was wrong - the 95/96 Sonics (one of my all-time favourite teams - Glove, Kemp, Schrempf, Hawkins, Sam Perkins (the 6'9, 3-shooting Forward playing at the 5) with Nate McMillan coming off the bench) are in it, and on that basis alone I may have to buy this after all.

Especially if I can tweak the rosters to make a team with a mixture of those guys and the 2010-11 Thunder, like...

Guards - Gary Payton, Hersey Hawkins, Nate McMillan, Russell Westbrook, James Harden

Forwards - Shawn Kemp, Detlef Schrempf, Kevin Durant, Jeff Green

Centers - Serge Ibaka, Sam Perkins, Nenad Kristic

...

Erm, can anyone confirm if this is possible?

After picking up a new xbox this week i really cant make my mind up to either pick this up or go for NHL 11, from what i have been reading both are top games. Although the last time i played a BB game was nba 96 or something. God the decisions to make, so need your advice lads or should i just buy both but then i dont think i can justify a £60 spend. Please advise.

***Update***

it's probably an understatement to say that my initial impressions were pretty positive. I have to admit, reading it back I was quite gushing about the game....and rightly so, I standby everything I said in that impression.

I've played a fair few more games and started a season with Miami Heat. Started on Rookie level and although i've won 2 out of 2, it's certainly not been easy. The better i'm getting (slowly) the more i'm enjoying it :D.

I think i still need to slow my play down a bit as I still tend to want to do some fancy moves all the time. This just doesn't happen, the defence is good. yes, you can pull of some great moves a fair bit, just not everytime you get to the basket.

All I can say say is that i'm not a follower of the NBA or basketball in general but it doesn't matter to me tbh, I love this game :D

ps, not tried online yet.
