It's so obvious now it's been pointed out, but I never realised how alike they are ...

This is my favourite

Brilliant. Did he actually drive it there?

This thread coming back to the surface nade me realise that I had missed this..

I don't think he arrived in the Rover 800, it was just parked outside (receiving a parking ticket for good measure)..

Is that real? Holy cow.

I'm about half way through Nomad and loving every moment so far.

One thing that I don't quite understand is why he only refers to his assistant as "My assistant"? Even in one bit of dialogue, where he says to her "[My assistant's name], ..."

Is it Lynn from I'm Alan Partridge? Is there some reason why he won't write her name?

If it's revealed later in the book then that's fine, I'm just wondering if I've missed a running joke from one of the other books or series.

It's the same in I, Partridge.

I think he doesn't see Lynn as important enough to call by name.  He loves name-dropping minor celebs, but an everyday person?  Nah.

I think Michael gets a pass as he considers him a friend and he's got some interesting stories from being in the army.

Ah, I thought Lynn had demanded to have her name taken out of the book, but I suppose it's just as likely that Alan is pointedly refusing to call her by name. Either way, there's an awkward little argument between Lynn and Alan that we can only imagine.

Just got to the bit of the Nomad audiobook where Alan gets to Gravesend and

Spoiler

makes friends with, then is robbed in his sleep by, a homeless man.

I live in Gravesend and have been trying to work out whether the scene is set in a real place. He doesn't give much actual detail though.

The romantic in me would obviously like to believe that the authors made a journey like this one themselves, in order to draw on proper local flavour at each stop on the itinerary. But I suppose it would be much easier and cheaper, and ultimately probably just as effective, to just do it all with Google and Wikipedia.

Nomad was fantastic but I've gone back to I, Partridge and it's definitely better.

Two superb reads though - I'd forgotten that I, Partridge has its own 'soundtrack'.  Almost tempted to create it on Spotify and play it whilst I'm reading.  Assuming no-one has already done that.

What's that all about? I only have the audiobook and I don't remember anything like that...

At the very start of I, Partridge he says that he'd created a specific playlist that was 'mandatory' to play along with as you were reading, but HarperCollins (publisher) refused to pay the production costs of the CD.  But he lists the soundtrack anyway at the back of the book, with footnotes indicating when to play the next track.

He's also the sort that likes to remind the reader at every opportunity that he's got/needs an assistant.

It reminded me of this - Madeley's 'Top 40'.  So much Partridge material here.  Number 38 had me in stitches.

I noticed the other day that Lynn is actually named in one of the Nomad footnotes, as a guarantor on his mortgage. Page 16, possibly - I made a mental note to remember, which is of course worthless.

Alan Partridge: Have I got a second series?
Tony Hayers: There's so many opportunities for a man...
Alan Partridge: [interrupting] Actually, let-let-let me rephrase that. Can I... No, in fact I'll just repeat the question. Have I got a second series?

Yes, he does! Back on the BBC gravy train.

It appears Alan Partridge has got his dream at last - making his big BBC comeback.

Manchester comedy star Steve Coogan has revealed that his most infamous comic creation, hapless broadcaster Partridge, will be back on the Beeb early next year with his own TV show. Steve made the surprise announcement as he appeared as a guest on Friday’s BBC One Show.

He said: “Alan will be back on the BBC early next year, there will be a lot of Alan on TV next year.”

Presenters Alex Jones and Amol Rajan laughed that they’d 'got a bit of an exclusive here' and pressed him for further details about the show. Steve said: “I’m trying to do a leak to the press about it. He’ll just be back on a show, it might be a bit like this. I’m here to do research.”
