Wonderful Wendel seals the win

wendel-bordeaux.jpg

Wendel...happy chappy

Title contenders Bordeaux and Stoke locked horns for a rip-roaring Wednesday night clash. Stoke took and early lead at the Britannia, catching out the Frenchmen after only 3 minutes. Fuller the beneficiary from a sloppy piece of defending. 1-0. Bordeaux began getting back into the match, looking dangerous on the break and calm in possession. It took until the stroke of half time for the away team to score, Wendel breaking through the Stoke back line before calmly picking out the top left corner. 1-1 at half time. Stoke again benefitted from slack Bordeaux defending after the restart, Kenwyne Jones this time picking out the bottom right. 2-1. It didn't take long for Bordeaux to equalize, as on 54 minutes Wendel broke through again before smashing into the top left off the crossbar. 2-2. With the game incredibly open, both teams spurned chances before Wendel completed a fantastic night when he slipped the offside trap again, slotting in low to the keepers left. 2-3. Bordeaux closed the match out for a well deserved win.

Super Sanli saves Stoke

The Bordeaux defense was again caught napping at the start. Fuller springing through with Carasso making the save, however, Jones was on hand to prod in the rebound. 0-1. This match had a very similar feel to the first, both teams looking to score, Bordeaux again managed an equalizer when Plasil popped up in the box to fire past Sorensen in the 38th minute. 1-1. Bordeaux weren't finished there when you know who, Wendel, sprung through to score his fourth in two matches. 2-1. Gouffran still had time to mess up a chance for three. Dilly-dallying on the ball after being clean through. 2-1 at half time. Bordeaux came out after the break looking for more goals, Stoke were much the same, testing Carasso on several occasions and looking dangerous going forward. Bordeaux nearly put the game to bed, Jussie and Wendel hitting the post in the same move. After this, however, Stoke broke free and got the ball to newly introduced Tuncay. Tuncay ran free of the labouring Ciani and slotted home to equalize in the 87th minute, cruelly breaking Bordeaux hearts. 2-2. The game stayed at 2-2 with Stoke earning an excellent point.

Cheers for the games Gambit. I managed to not concede any throws or many corners, although your forward play was great! Good luck for the rest of the season

It's a cracking end to the season both ends of the table chaps.

I've got an apology to make to you all. First off for not being quite so involved in the dressing room over the last two months. I'm currently working about 90 hours a week and have been most of the season so just haven't been able to swap the banter.

As such my fixtures are slipping slightly at the moment, which is my second apology. It's not a valid excuse I know and I'm sure everyone is busy this time of year, so if you're looking at the table shaking your fist at frustration because you want to see where you should be sitting, then again massive apologies.

If it's any consolation, I'm hurtling towards relegation. So now would be a good time to get your jibes and mockery in, before my stunning comeback that sees me escape by a single point and condemns Billy Brown to the drop instead. :D

Nothing in this game. My goal had a touch of fortune about it. A corner not cleared properly and fell to Jovetic in the box with space around him and he slotted home. Up to that point there had only been one clear chance in the game and Jovertic fluffed his back post volley. 'My fist pump moment' was short lived as XYZ promptly went up the other end and bagged a well made equaliser through Vagner Love.

A fair result although I was a little disappointed not to have nicked it

Game ruined by a two minute spell in which the referee made two HUGE calls, both in favour of of the Russians.

Don't get me wrong - I got completely mauled in this game however after getting an early lead, XYZ got two calls in his direction, the likes of which I've never seen before. The first was the softest pen I've seen given on the game. XYZ's striker was chasing a ball, from centre pitch diagonally towards the corner flag. My defender was chasing too but slightly behind him. As they chased (and with the ball almost at the flag his player sort of stumbled forward and then kept running to collect the ball which then ran out of play. The whistle went and for a horrid second I thought he'd just been given the softest free kick ever, particularly as I was pressing no buttons when his player stumbled. Then the real horror played out as the stumble was at the precise time his forward stepped one foot into the penalty area as he ran across the corner of it. Penalty given! What a gyp!

Just 2 minutes later, having finally calmed down, my forward overran the ball but as the keeper collected it he was scythed down by an AI controlled defender who slid in just as the keeper bent to pick it up. No pen given! It was a stone wold I tells ya.

XYZ then went on to punish me as I tried out numerous formations with the slider set to ultra attacking. None of them worked and he sliced me apart at will scoring some great goals

Horrid game where nothing seemed to go my way but XYZ was clinical and fully deserved it

Very true with dodgey penalty decisions at the start. The only thing I was thinking is that I wish there was a camera shot of your face of absolute disbelief after two crazy decisions. Unlucky but Im sure you will still finish high the pecking order and as zappo pointed out, the SaintM vs Wincho will be very interesting indeed!

I couldn't believe it if I'm honest mate. It felt like even before that I wasn't getting the breaks. Every tackle I made seemed to fall to another of your players and my passing seemed to be going off at strange angles (odd how it only ever feels like that when you have already gone behind.)

At the pen decisions in that 2 minutes though, I don't recall ever being that angry at a game before. I knew it had killed me in that game as coming back from 2-0 (after the first game was so close) was going to require a much more 'gung ho' attitude and I didn't think that sort of play would work against you. I could have just kept plugging away at it with the score 1-0. As a result I went on to play like an idiot and you duly (and expertly) punished me......over and over!

As I said though, it was a thoroughly deserved win. I'm fairly sure that even without the pen decsions you'd have gone on and taken the 3 points anyway. (I have to keep telling myself this or I'll end up going on a shooting rampage across Bedfordshire!)

Cheers for the games mate. GL with your title challenge

These two promotion hopefuls met on a snowy winter evening, both with high hopes for the results. Bordeaux started much the stronger, dominating the first half but, despite having several excellent opportunities, could not find the breakthrough. 0-0 at half time. Fenerbahce came out for the second half looking a lot stronger, Niang always a danger on the break with his pace. Bordeaux were becoming increasingly frustrated at their lack of cutting edge and Fernando had a glorious opportunity to win it in the 88th minute but could not find the finish despite being 1v1. Gouffran didn't have much luck with the rebound, the keeper making a good stop. From the resulting corner, Fenerbahce cleared to the half way line, Fifa took over control of the Ciani at centre back, who gifted the ball to Niang and stood still. This jmistake allowed Niang to run clear from half way and finish with the last kick of the game. Fucking gutted. 1-0.

Fenerbahce started the second game much stronger. Dominating play from the start with Bordeaux not allowed to pass, tackle, run or do anything really. Fenerbahce had a host of chances in the first half but couldn't finish. 0-0 at half time. The second half was a joke to be honest. I can't remember Fenerbahce taking the lead but a ball over the top was carefully observed the Bordeaux defense but strangely they did nothing to prevent it...just watched. 1-0. The second goal left me seething. Carasso took the ball from a tame shot and looked to distribute quickly. However, he threw the ball in the opposite direction to where I was pointing and the 'bahce player headed the ball back from 35 yards. The keeper started to come but was distracted by the clearly offside player motioning towards the ball, so Carasso hesistated. Usually this would be offside but no...another Fenerbahce player sneaked into the box, controlled and finished. Cheap goal but whatever. 2-0. My controller was thrown across the room at this point leaving Kirky playing nobody for the next 20 mins of the match. Bordeaux had a couple of chances near the end (when I'd got my controller back) but the Fifa gods really were not smiling in my direction. 2-0.

Cheers Zappo.

I felt for you in the first you didnt deserve to lose, I probably deserved the win in the second game as im sure I struck the post a couple of times and cant remember

to many clear cut chances from you.

I did feel like Dick Turpin though coming away with 6 points. However its rough justice as it balances up my previous games with Gambit weher i absolutely battered him in one game and some how managed to lose and more then matched in the second game to eventually lose 4-1. I was as pissed off as i think you would have been after my last kcik winner, i was on top and thinking of 6 points after he failed to create a single change against my 9 in the first half only to get a couple of lucky bounces. I had a shot blcoked and cleared well into my half and nobody was there to chase back but his forward just trotted onto it to take the lead I was so fed up with the shitty AI I just gave the controller to my daughter to finish off and I thought about quitting the season and slinging fifa into the dustbin.

Good luck in your others, keep plugging away its going to come down to the wire.

Cheers man...like you say, it's swings and roundabouts really. I got a lucky win against Gambit in the last minute of one of our matches! I haven't been so rage-filled this season, but that second (that you did deserve to win) game infuriated me. The inconsistencies in the game are shocking!! I swear I was a yard onside with one of my chances...then your 2nd was allowed when the guy was well off and interfering with play! Fucks sake!

A really exciting match began proceedings. Bordeaux came flying out the blocks, Jussie denied after 3 minutes by an excellent piece of goalkeeping. It didn't take long for the traveling team to take the lead however, a perfectly weighted pass over the top of the Sampdoria defense sent Wendel clean through for an excellent first time volley. 0-1. This score line stayed the same into the second half. Bordeaux extended their lead early in the 2nd period, Wendel again the beneficiary from a crisp Fernando pass, slotting home at the keepers near post. 0-2. Sampdoria started to get back into the game after this and were soon level. Pazzini finished well after some shaky Bordeaux passing gifted him the ball. 1-2. In an end to end finish to the match, Bordeaux managed to hang on for a well deserved 3 points.

The second match was altogether different. Bordeaux's need for a top class forward was highlighted in this match despite having the feel of high scoring affair from the start, both teams fluffing early chances to take the lead. It was Sampdoria who took the initiative in this match, Pazzini finishing smartly with his head. 0-1. A fortunate equalizer soon followed when Jussie crossed from the left, it was either Wendel or a defender to put the ball in the net, unfortunately for the poor centre half, it was him who looped a header over his own keeper. 1-1.

It's never fun to score an owner...

Sampdoria pretty much went straight back up the other end to score, Cassano this time slotting the ball underneath the despairing Carasso. 1-2. Bordeaux kept pushing and almost equalized before half time on a couple of occasions. 1-2 at half time. Bordeaux kept pushing forward in the 2nd period, this however left the defense thread bear. Cassano again finishing past Carraso. 1-3. Bordeaux weren't finished there, the ever reliable Wendel latched on to a Jussie through ball and smashed home at the near post. 2-3. Bordeaux looked the more likely to score again in this match and almost scraped an equalizer late on, Fernando missing a sitter of a header in the 90th minute. Sampdoria hung on to the victory and also, their promotion hopes.

Another 2 close games for me, this season could have been so different if a couple of results had gone my way/

But its looking like its a dull mid table finish for me which is to be honest is better than I thought I would do.

Cheers for the games though Zappo they both could have gone either way which is something I could say for almost every game I have played this season.

The Russians had early pressure which should have seen them take the lead when Kornilenko found himself free with a header from about 4 yards out. He somehow headed it up and over the bar when it was probably easier to score. Saint then took a deserved lead although Martins goal was the result of a rebound after his first was saved by the goalkeeper. At half time I had only had two shots but both of them should have been goals and on another day they would have been. It would have been very unfair had I taken a lead into the second half though as Saint missed a 1v1 himself and had far more attempts despite the best passing rating I've achieved all season.

I came out all attacking for the second half but subsequently kicked off and gave the ball away. The Ruskies scored from this with a neat through ball converted expertly by Kornilenko.

I managed to give as good as I got from then on, creating more opportunities than I had in the first half until in the 90th minute the Russians broke down the right. Martins showed neat feet to work a crossing opportunity and the big man Kornilenko made no mistake with a back post header to make it 3-0 with virtually the last action in the game.

Fully deserved 3 points for SaintM

A minor change in formation seemed to help here as from the start the game was even. (The previous one had seen me under pressure from the minute the game kicked off)

Al 3 goals in this game were absolute shockers however.

Gilardino scored the first just before half time when a hopeful through ball was chested into his path by a big Russian defender. Gilly made no mistake with the finish but it was shocking defending rather than great forward play that got him in the right place.

Carlos Eduardo leveled things on 63 minutes in similar fashion. A through ball which the defender appeared t have sorted but his heels were clipped by Eduardo - No foul! The stumble saw him drop in behind the forward who lashed the ball home.

The lead was restored just 3 minutes later though when a back post cross found Gilly all on his own on the corner of the 6 yard box. Rather than head it I decided to take it down to smash it home but typically (for this particular fixture) his touch was hopeless and it popped forward straight to two Russian defenders. momentum took the Fiorentina forward though and he somehow bundled into the ball and came out the other side of the defenders to slide it under the goalkeeper who again looked favourite to smother the ball

I managed to hold on without too many real scares but it was one of those games where any simple looking cross or through ball could result in defending catastrophe and change the face of the game. Fortunately that was it and we were only left to discuss how we had both severely dented the others title aspirations

We were unable to get hold of Mr Icke, but luckily a replacement was found.

1. The mic on the camera is awful, so sorry for the poor quality of that.

2. It really seemed like a good idea after a few chrimbo drinks.

A game that turned after a re-start when we lost connection on 60 minutes. Billy had already gone 1-0 up with a decent goal form Farfan and was good for his lead went eh crash happened.

Upon the re-start however I managed to get back on level terms almost straight away when Jovetic was put through and came in from the left to finish in the far corner with his right foot. It then it seemed only a matter of time before I got the next one as the momentum switched my way. It was late when it happened though and was a carbon copy of the first. Billy didn't give up but it meant a third goal, from the same player in the same manner as the first two put a flattering scoreline on a tight game

Harsh that it all turned on the re-start Billy - well though played mate

Billy was fully deserved of his win here. I tried different formations and even made subs but just couldn't work any proper openings. I came close with headers from corners and inevitably it was a header from Gilardino that leveled it after Billy had gone ahead through a serious comedy goal. A great shot was parried superbly by the Fiorentina goalkeeper and a defender came in to clear up the rebound. The GK was up really quick though and the two got to the ball at the same time. The GK appeared to pick it up but the defender knocked it out of his hand for the oncoming attacker to sweep into the net. It was a beaut and had us both laughing. Billy's winner was a lovely worked move that went across the edge of my penalty area with passes until it finally fell to the spare man at the back who finished from a tight angle with a lovely curler to the far post

Thoroughly deserved win for BB - well played mate
