We are in for £1500 worth as well. It is quite possible we won't get any as they are mainly for hi profile events.

Worst case scenario is they WILL buy them back apparently. If you don't want them later.

What else is there exciting in the actual Olympic Village. As you know all the other stuff is taking place at ExCeL etc..

Hockey might be worth a punt. Has to be womens hockey though as they are the best at it.

Hockey, water polo, cycling (BMX and track), swimming, diving, all the athletics of course. Basketball is in a funky white building. Wheelchair tennis will be on site as well (I presume it needs to be played on a harder surface). The Modern Pentathlon will use a couple of the site as well.

EDIT: except of course they're not in the Olympic Village. They're in the Olympic Park.

Totally forgot about this after registering my email months ago. I remember it being launched, but put it off for a while and forgot to return to make my selections. I'd have expected some kind of reminder email or something to be honest. Anyway, thanks to the downtime they had on the ticket website yesterday I managed to spot the article on BBC regarding the one hour extension at around half-midnight last night.

Obviously I didn't have long to decide what I wanted to go and see, or plan any kind of timetable for myself, but managed to sign up for the men's table tennis singles gold and bronze matches, the gold medal football final and the opening and closing ceremonies. Would have probably liked to see a few more events, but I got the impression it would be better to see most of them on TV, either due to missing most of the action by being there (mountain biking) or having to sit 3 miles away squinting (gymnastics/athletics).

I'm in for about £320 maximum, but with travel from up north and accommodation I'd expect that to probably double at least.

I'm thinking I've been a bit silly for only applying for the medal events now as well, I can see me getting nothing at all. The opening ceremony is certainly the one I'm most interested in, but I'm pretty sure I won't be alone on that one! Hopefully they have a system which tries to make sure each applicant gets at least one of their selections if at all possible.

I got mine in yesterday, the allotment system is pretty much the most retarded thing I have ever encountered in my life, ever. However, my Dad said when I about 4 if the Olympics ever come to the UK we will go and see the rowing, so I have put in for medal days for the 8's and 4's. I really hope we get tickets and some that are at least near to the finishing line. Granted there are 2500m to view it from. It was pissed me off listeing to Seb Coe on the radio who basically said all the good tickets had already been alotted to sponsors and the people who have largely funded the games. Which isn't us then?

Can I just check something, because a taxi driver has just terrified me - say you've accidentally ordered £600 worth of tickets; you only get charged for the ones you 'win' in the lottery, don't you? They don't take the money for all of them and then pay you back for the ones you don't 'win' do they?

No, you're fine. They just take money for the ones you win.

But if you win tickets you decide you don't want and want to sell them back via their scheme (details TBA), they keep your money until well into next year.

Does anyone have contact details for the ticket people? I need to ask them about the fact my card is to be cancelled following the PSN fuck up and I need to change it. But getting contact details from them is impossible (just like ticketmaster) and therefore FUCKING ANNOYING. I've had to find a general enquiries online form for jobs/building work for the olympics and hope they pass my message on.

In what way?

If you remember back then, there were complaints about how it might as well have been a Chinese event rather than an international one - such was the saturation of the home crowd relative to others. If London is to avoid repeating this it desperately needs to get more foreign spectators in the crowd - and I don't just mean the competing teams' coaches and family.

The more you look at this ticketing thing the more of a farce it seems to be; looks like they'll be charging our cards sometime between May 10th and June 10th, but it won't be until June 24th that they'll tell us which events we've won and paid for.

I think the reason nobody from abroad is applying is because they're on sale so early: I almost forgot to order tickets because it's such a long way ahead that it just doesn't seem real at the moment, and I live in London! The majority of people abroad won't be planning to go to someone else's olympics until maybe Christmas 2011, by which time all the tickets will be long gone.

Indeed. I doubt the sale dates were getting the same media push in other countries. This sale wasn't available to absolutely everyone either (and presumably doesn't cover anywhere near the total amount of tickets available). Anyone outside Europe has to go through a different process, and I'd imagine the likes of the USA will be sending a significant number of people which won't be included in these figures.

Actually that's about when the people who've had to remortgage their house to cover winning £30k worth of tickets will finally be able to offload them ;) The percentage of tickets with Brits will plummet at that point!

Apparently 95% of the 2m applications come from the UK... it will be like Beijing 2008 all over again

Anyone outside the UK has to apply for tickets through their country's Olympic Committee in the first instance. One of the questions you had to select for eligibility was whether you were resident in the UK!

But I read somewhere that European law dictated that anyone in the EU could register for tickets via the website. Of course, the majority just wouldn't have known it existed.

This application process was open to all EU residents - likely not many overseas would have been aware unless they had visited London recently or were particularly interested in following progress.

I have gone for tennis and football as perhaps realistic and athletics as an outside shot(put).
