  • 2 weeks later...

Second-chance tickets on sale while I'm on holiday. This means my parents will be fending for themselves at 6am on a Friday morning.

EDIT: Looking at what is still available, I'm sure the rest of the country are feeling proud of themselves. Literally none of the football outside of London has sold out.

Got beach volleyball, boxing and athletics. It completely crippled me financially for a month but now I'm pretty chuffed :)

I didn't realise the athletics was only 2 hours though, I thought I was going to spend the whole day there :(

Got 4 tickets for swimming heat rather than 2 tickets for football final. Pleased, the whole family can go, and it's the Olympic park, and a proper Olympic event. Disappointed to miss out on everything else, but it's better than nothing.

If things go as expected, should be a lot of good Brits in that swimming session: Adlington, Spofforth and Simmonds, Could well be Michael Phelps too. Should be good, then spend an afternoon wandering around the Olympic Park.

No idea how (well, I know how because i booked them, but i've got no idea how we managed to get them) but my lady and i managed to snag two tickets to the 100 metres final (and associated atheletics final goodness on the 5th august)! :) hugely excited - literally butterflies.

sorry to all those who missed out on tickets. we put our names in for loads of other randomness and i'm kinda glad someone else will get the opportunity to see other stuff instead.

Awesome dunkle congrats.

We got one Atheltics Evening Session. Men's 110m hurdles final amongst others and a Beach Volleyball. Pretty happy about that. Really wanted some velodrome action and table tennis too but generally I can't complain.

I heard there's been some sort of contre temps over having a temporary British national football team for the Games. If so, that's a shame because I'm pretty sure it's been done for rugby before without eroding the national identity of the existing teams (unless it was league or summat like that). I particularly love the idea of forcing auld enemies to team up together against a common enemy, like in Blade 2 or something.

It's terrible. Can't see many players outside of England wanting to take part.

The guy I sit next to at work got tickets for the men's 100m final too. I swear he danced around the office pumping his fists and celebrating for a good ten seconds before he got embarrassed and stopped. He was doubly humiliated when we pointed out that his OTT celebration lasted longer than the actual event will. Atmosphere should be amazing though!

Anyway, I got fuck all apart from a quiet afternoon in on my own whilst my missus goes to some gymnastics thing. No basketball, no cycling.

Olympic dream = ruined.

Perhaps you'd like to explain why "it's terrible" for the benefit of those of us who don't share a crude nationalistic outlook to football?

The only real downside is the fear that it's the thin end of the wedge, and that the home nations will no longer be able to field separate teams for proper tournaments. FIFA sometimes make threatening noises whenever we get too outspoken about corruption or video refs.

Are the equestrian events really that popular? A friend got some tickets for the gymnastics and cycling. She was telling me she knew she wouldn't get the equestrian events she'd gone for (which she really wanted to see) as they were one of the most over-subscribed.

Small venues or loads of crazy clopper lovers? Probably a bit of both.

British And Irish Lions? Works for rugby, why not football?

The reason we play separate is historical - cos the four constituent parts of the UK set up their own FAs back in the 19th century. If the very first FA (our own English FA) had insisted that it had jurisdiction over the entire UK when the Scottish clubs wanted to set up their own FA, we probably wouldn't be in this situation now.

Having people play football as scotland, england, ireland and whoever else instead of GB when all the other sprots are GB is stupid.

Sprots.

Except it isn't true. Rugby, for instance.

With football, by the time international games came around, the four FAs in the UK were already established and had their own competitions, etc. Same with rugby.
