SSX

Chill, Winston.

I wasn't trying to act all "Nah, nah, I know something you don't know", all I said was wait for gameplay before you judge because peeps seem to be freaking out. I can't help that an NDA says I'm not allowed to tell you what I know. I like my job and wish to carry on getting paid for it.

I'll try and avoid mentioning the other games I know loads about.

Nah, nah, I know something you don't know :D

You can hardly call this realistic.

I used quotes for a reason :P

Tricky was known for it's exaggerated physics and being generally over the top. SSX3 was the opposite. This, based on the existing evidence offered so far, is looking to be more SSX3 than Tricky. That is it being developed by a team who made a more serious skateboarding game than the competition suggests they will offer a similar experience here.

On that note I am extremely paranoid that now that the controllers are finally the same in terms of layout they are screwing that over, and decide upon something completely different. Using the right stick for tricks is already a worrying sign in that respect and if pre-winding on the d-pad is gone I might as well stop waiting for this immediately.

That coiled spring jump wind-up had such an excellent tactile feel to it, and not enough games utilise all four shoulder buttons at once in various combinations.

Just want to add... If you're concerned enough about the direction this might be going, or you have a suggestion or comment, head over to the forum and let them know. I know the devs do actually read a lot of those things.

I doubt there'll be any drastic changes but they might take some stuff into consideration depending on peoples' reaction.

But i don't want to join another gaming forum just to tell them what they should already know.

Let them come here and anyway people seem to be against it over there as well. Thing is, them may well read what we say, but surely the game is to far into deveopment to warrant the seemingly massive art changes that appear to be required.

They should know better. They release 6 or so NFS "urban" games and the first ones get some fair scores (only because they're the early nextgen titles) and they go progressively downhill from there (i thought they were all fairly average to be honest).

Then they release the same older IP by a well respected dev, keep in tradition of the orignal IP and it gets 9's and 10s and is rated arcade game of the year by loads of mags and online sites.

What EA often fail to realise is their orignal game were actually rooted in Win, but the tech wasn't there to make them shine.

Road Rash is exactly the same. I loved the entire series, including Jailbreak, but it wasn't really done justice on the tech and by the time it appeared in its last incarnation - the tech was on its way out.

Theres nothing wrong with taking a old IP into new territory but i'd argue they're doing it the wrong way round because its been so long since the last release.

I must admit i quite enjoyed SSX 4 (that was quite dark in some ways) but after this long you miss the orignal's garish look.

Its ironically funny given what EA used to be like with FIFA.

But revamp the orignal Tricky (or SSX 3), then take us into darker places. EA's management may have changed but us videgamers have not and remember what a great game SSX was.

Well to be fair to EA they have done some awesome games recently and have really been on form this year, yes that trailer doesnt look that good but Im going to wait until some gameplay footage gets shown before dismissing the game completely. From the descriptions that EA have been giving out it seems more like an extreme 1080 Avalanche than any of the previous SSX games and to be honest thats fine by me, having a snowboarding game where its less about over the top stunts and more about thrill of surviving the elements and trying to make it down the mountain in one piece could work. Yes it wont be like the previous SSX games but that doesnt mean that this new direction will be a bad one either.

It reminds me a wee bit of the old TV ad for SSX3.

Jesus. That logo. In gun metal grey.

Doesn't strike me as the kind of game where you'll be able to spin the snowboard around your neck while the soundtrack informs you that long haired freaky people need not apply, but fingers crossed there's that playful spirit beneath all the gruffness.

When EA got the NBA JAM license and said they would take it back to it's roots, they did. And it's awesome

EA said they would take SSX back to it's roots, but those roots seem to be the third game.

Maybe it'll be amazing. Maybe it'll be shit. But so far they've already offered two completely opposite suggestions of what the game will be. I'm not keen to hold out hope for another game to be amaze when it turns out to be the exact opposite of what is wanted and what the publisher originally claimed.

EGM scans (in no particular order)

egmpage16yd1.jpg egmpage2z9ov.jpg egmpage110xfz.jpg egmpage120l7n.jpg egmpage3p9se.jpg egmpage4rb4k.jpg egmpage5hzy8.jpg egmpage689dv.jpg egmpage72zxi.jpg egmpage84ydk.jpg egmpage9fzkv.jpg egmpage10xzj3.jpg

Summary of the info from the scans...

* Rewind Feature

* 17 regions spread across the whole globe, each mountain ridable in all their 360º degrees of slopes, Stoked style. They're aiming for 70 open mountains. Mountains are generated automatically by the game, including some from topographic data like Google Earth. The producer talks about his programmer asking him to name any mountain, the producer said "Everest", the tech guy plugs that info into the mountain building program (dubbed "Mountain Man), and the program spit out a 100,000+ polygon rendered mountain.

* Regions confirmed so far: Siberia, Himalayas (split into two mountains it would seem, for now), Kilimanjaro, Siberia, Caucasus, The Alps.

* Each mountain is tailored to one kind of danger. Thin air, ice, temperature, will each be the main danger of one mountain range.

* The gear you purchase/earn will be important, each piece may be better to a certain condition/danger.

* Elise is returning. Start guessing who the guy in the trailer is (or it could be a new fella...)

* There will be tracks in the game. They have natural shortcuts (this can mean the tracks could have the feel we're used them to have, the ramps, turns, etc, etc), some of the runs are pinched together, some others intersect.

:)
