Activision shuts down Bizarre Creations

As far as I know (Haha VN1X doesn't know anything lolololol) they've made some pretty solid games in the past. I haven't had the chance to try their latest venture into the shooty genre but from what I could tell by the videos it looked like good ol' fun all the way. The way a Bond game should be, nothing more, nothing less.

I hope they land on their feet. Not only for their sake but for ours as well, they've got some excellent talent on their team.

As somebody who loved their pre Blur driving games I find this to be sad news. :(

Agree with this and yes, very sad news if true.

I can understand Bizarre Creations' desire not to be forever stuck in a rut, but sometimes it is better the devil you know and sometimes it's best to stick with what you know.

Hope this is just a rumour though, I have some very fond memories of BC's pre-Blur racers.

Ugh.

Bizzare Creations (were) one of the few studios who made consistently quality games no matter what genre they turned their hand to. I mean, really solid products, inventive game mechanics and they always pushed the hardware to its limits.

Writing was on the wall as soon as they signed with Activision. They don't know what they've lost.

Game industry sucks.

Terrible news. :( Blur was fantastic and even Blood Stone was a solid title. Unfortunately I remember places like GAME not even stocking Blur due to Activision being cunts, and Blood Stone had no advertising whatsoever.

There best game though was PGR2. The first game I ever played online and still have fond memories of playing with Meerman, Smith and Rogue Soul.

R.I.P

You guys can't really blame Activision too much, they are a business not a charity. Just didn't work out for them I guess.

I don't know if it was the case this time, but there does seem to be evidence of Activision simply not even giving studios a chance, like they want them to fail.

Its a real shame, but they've had such a history of commercial flops lately im amazed they lasted this long. The marketing on Blur was so ill-conceived, I know people here liked it...but a realistic driving game with mario kart style weaponry? Not a good idea.

Commiserations to all affected though, hopefully theyre picked up by someone somehow, and we do get GW3 sometime.

Why is Blur 'not a good idea' - it's fucking amazing online. Have you tried it?

It really doesn't help that we don't have any UK publishers, VC or mega rich people here in the UK or even Europe, willing to invest in such ventures & productions.

Which makes me all the more angry at the fucking mess that was Realtime Worlds, became investment horror stories like this mean that no one with cash to invest would go anywhere near this scene. Something that VIS & Red Lemon also did to it (though not to tune of nine figures) back in the late 90's.

Sad for them and I've enjoyed their past games. You guys can't really blame Activision too much, they are a business not a charity. Just didn't work out for them I guess.

Have you got ANY FUCKING CLUE how much Activision have fucked up their last 2 games? Shall we have a look?

Blur was released to precisely zero fanfare and put out in Game and Gamestation at £44.99. No other game had that price tag at that time, and store presence was practically zero. Add to that it was brought out close to Split/Second (which comparisons were drawn against, unfairly because they are similar in that they're driving games only) meant death for it.

Blood Stone was released 4 days, 4 FUCKING DAYS before the gargantuan black hole game that is Black Ops. Their own IP. Now, if that's not fucking sabotage I have no idea what is.

Raven got fucked over by them as well. Singularity got buried in exactly the same way.

It just seems as unlikely a combination as cartoon characters in Gran Turismo, but I havent tried it, no. The ads put me off too, if i remember they had a go at people who liked Mario Kart, which I do.

Yeah it's almost as if Activision were looking for an excuse to shut them down. It was strange releasing a Bond game when there was no film out. Not many people have heard of Bloodstone due to poor marketing. Was stranger when they released it against Call of Duty.

Thing is angel - that's an ad by Activision dickhead marketeers. Bizzare (R.I.P) are just people who 'knew' how make a great game. Blur works as game su-fucking-premely. Don't confuse the two please.

That's a pretty shocking move. I don't normally have "favourites" when it comes to dev studios but Bizarre's output has nearly always been excellent and I reckon they're a dead talented bunch.

Still, it'll give Acti a boost as they pour $$$ into Tony Hawk 56 and Guitar Hero 8659. Fuck you Kotick (or whoever thought this was a good call.)

the way it's looking at the minute is there's never going to be another Bond film, I think the project was a misguided effort to try and plug the gap. I'm betting most Bond fans aren't that big on video games.

Update...

An editor at wethegamerz.com just tweeted, “I have just gotten off the phone with a representative of Bizarre Creations. He noted there was some truth to the lay-offs. When i asked of the closing he stated there was some truth in it all but he wasn’t allowed to expand.”

:(

Not heard of the site before so it take with a grain of salt.
