I think I've found a cursed helmet. I bought it, then accidentally sold it straight back. So I bought it again. Then a while later whilst trading I realised I had forgotten to don said hat, pressed A to equip it but of course sold it again. I'm fucked if I'm buying it a third time. Perhaps more of a case of cursed UI.

One of the biggest dissapointments is how little Skyrim actually improves the feeling of the world.

All the NPCs are terrible, zombie like creatures that wander with no purpose (except the guards), they sleep with all their clothes on and their weapons, they always talk to you about the same things (how about shutting it, you "mercenary work" fucker?), they seem to forget what you did to them very easily, you can put pots over their head while they go about their bussiness, etc...

I mean, it's just the same completely stupid NPCs we've known all these years. It's a major let down for me and makes the game feel more and more like Oblivion.

I admit I'm enchanted by this game but I don't believe we are seeing much progress here to tell you the truth.

the NPCs have barely moved on since Oblivion. When there's a bunch of them around you talking about something, it's hard to tell who is talking.

Rockstar in general are much better at this - the background characters in RDR felt more connected to their world.

Having said that, I'm the first person to complain about realism getting in the way of a good game and I think Bethesda have spent the dev time doing the right things... the rest will come, all in good time.

Good AI is so hard to get right though, I think Bethesda have given up on the idea of revolutionary AI after the Oblivion Radiant AI debacle. Which is fine, the games USP is breadth, discovery and exploration imo. You have to ask if inhabitants wearing pyjamas when they go to bed would actually make the game more enjoyable or not. I can't think of game that has AI even close to what TSH wants.

I spend a good hour last night with not only an arrow sticking out of my forehead (like a Halloween costume) which looked a bit crazy, but then just after it finally disappeared I got an ice spike lodged through my shoulder and sticking out of my back which looked awesome, wandering along with it spewing that frosty aura behind me it looked like a genuine magical injury.

I think you're being a bit glass-half-empty to be honest. I think for the most part when you walk into the pub in Whiterun say, the NPC behaviour is pretty convincing. Yes there are still people who talk over each other, or say inappropriate things, but when it works it is quite naturalistic. Just the way it doesn't crash zoom into a separate view for conversations seems more natural.

So there I was last night on my way with lydia to retrieve a horn when ,near a Frost troll labyrith, I find a door way to a passage below. Seeing aa the frost trolls are being a pain in the arse I figure it would be the better bet to go through the passage and see whats there and hopefully get myself some nice stuff.

Me and lydia are cruising through the area beating the crap out of undeads and generally being bad asses until we encounter something right at the end of the dungeon area. There in front of me sits a nice chest to search when all of a sudden an undead deathbringer appears. Now I thought "Well its been easy so far bring it on!" So I go after him. Sudden;y he shouts and I am flung right across the room into the wall. I get up and then proceed to instantly die from one of his arrows to my chest.

I restart and decide that caution is the better part of valor and run. I'll be back for you Deathbringer! Just you wait!

I really wanted this to be my £mas game but I was so bored at weekend that I bought it anyway. Took Batmaaaaan and Deus Ex: Augmented Edition into Gamestation, I looked at my receipt when I got home and the motherfuckers only gave me £2 for the latter. £2!! Anyway, Assassin's Creed should have arrived today so my plan was to get that done with and resume Skyrim during £mas break.... but I'm looking forward to Skyrim so much I'm not sure I'll be able to do that... :hmm:

I love cooking.

Not trying to start a fight or be a troll or anything,. but why?

Isn't cooking a bit pointless? From what I gather the only real effects you can get from a well cooked bit of rabbit is health recovery (and seen as health automatically recovers over time anyway and potions are never far away) - it all seems a bit pointless to cook.

Am I missing something?

*note: I'd really like a hardcore fall out new vegas mode. no fast travel, sleep requirements, food / hunger.. that jazz. Bit disappointed it's not even there as an option.

I agree with this, also most characters do have routines. They're not Majora's Mask in their complexity, but then Clock Town had about 30 people at most in it. I think it's convincing enough, people going to work in the day, a woman hanging around the market to gain experience, a kid asking her mum if she can go have dinner in the pub and then you see them eating in there later on. Sound bites do sometimes repeat and it's isn't all totally convincing but I don't know how much more you can expect from a game with this breadth. Expecting every NPC in every town to have a detailed routine and tons of unique sound bites along with revolutionary AI is really asking too much imo.

I'm not sure what you were expecting here. I think the developers spent time of the things that matter and your ideas while probably would make the world more believable but do not matter today. There are probably a number of real world of events objects they could of included but they have to draw the line somewhere I can pick any number of games where you can question why can I not do this or why does that not happen. We're probably years from the kind of game your expecting and I guest that any game that strives for realisim is going to be jarring in some way so when your playing you need a bit of imagination to feel in the blanks. I think Bethesda have made a game the falls on the right side of believable.

has this been posted yet? Something to do with shopping. So simple yet quite clever...

On saturday I played through the night and only stopped to go for a walk to avoid DVT before carrying on. Must have been a lot of hours. I seem to be leveling up fairly slowly though, being only level 9 (and a half!) after about 20 hours . Been using ice magic and one handed sword but starting to use some dual weilding magic instead since mrs slave is doing most of the chopping.

Spot on.. Given the sheer scope of the game I think it's fantastic how much incidental NPC detail they have actually managed to cram in, I feel that expecting the level of AI TSH mentions is just aiming too high for a game of this size, there are just way too many variables that could screw it all up.

Maybe next gen, when creating detailed gameworlds this size is the norm, they can then focus on getting all the inhabitants up to scratch.

I read a review (Edge?) which said that a dragon's skeleton stays where it is forever. Is this true? I'm sure I travelled back to where I had slain a dragon but the remains had gone.

I've been attacked by 3 dragons in total. 2 of them occurred in the courtyard of the mage college. The 1st skeleton stuck around for a long time but disappeared at/or around the same time the 2nd dragon attack happened. The 1st attack actually coincided with 1 of the last steps of the mage quest chain which was quite amusing - maybe the best time to attack somewhere isn't when there are 9 mages milling around ready for a fight.

I've been making the fondue that adds 25% magicka regeneration and 100 max magicka for 720 seconds, seems pretty handy to me.

Don't know if this is any issue or if I'm just being terribly thick, but I'm stuck on a quest and need some help.

I'm in an early mission in Whiterun - some Hammerfell bird wants me to speak to an assassin (who's in the prison at Dragonreach) to kind info on the leader of the buggers who want to kill her. So, I go to the prison, and it turns out I need to stump up 100 gold to free him. I speak to the guard, give him 100 and then...nothing. The door remains locked and it says I need a key. Well, where the buggery fuck is the key then?

If anyone knows, I'd be very grateful!

I've decided life's too fucking short for these dragon battles, what with the appalling combat mechanics, so I've resorted to pulling down the console and enabling God mode whenever i have to fight one...

Yes i know its lame, but i just cant/wont/don't have the time these days to sit in front of my Pc going round in circles...hitting 'load'..'die'...'Load'...rinse,repeat.

..other than the Dragon battles, I'm loving it.

Just speak to the guy again. All you need is the info, NOT to release him. ;)

Go and speak to the prisoner again and tell him

that you've paid the money.

Ah, well that's where it goes wrong - as I did. And nothing happens :( . Still mumbles on about getting him released!

Did you click through the conversation options? I clicked the only option and then the correct choice came up on the second set of dialogue choices. It's a bit of an odd thing as I would have expected not to have to go through nested dialogue.
