Are The Companions basically "The Fighters Guild" for this game?

After question off with Farkas surely they can't be!

Go and do their first big quest with Farkas, you'll see :D

I'd really like a hardcore fall out new vegas mode. no fast travel, sleep requirements, food / hunger.. that jazz. Bit disappointed it's not even there as an option.

Yeah this would be amazing, it's a real shame it doesn't let you choose difficulty and maybe something like simulation level separately which is locked in at the start and you can't change on the fly.

Not trying to start a fight or be a troll or anything,. but why?

Isn't cooking a bit pointless? From what I gather the only real effects you can get from a well cooked bit of rabbit is health recovery (and seen as health automatically recovers over time anyway and potions are never far away) - it all seems a bit pointless to cook.

Am I missing something?

No worries. I love it as I go hunting for wild animals and get lost for hours. Collecting other ingredients then cooking it up back at base.

Good AI is so hard to get right though, I think Bethesda have given up on the idea of revolutionary AI after the Oblivion Radiant AI debacle. Which is fine, the games USP is breadth, discovery and exploration imo. You have to ask if inhabitants wearing pyjamas when they go to bed would actually make the game more enjoyable or not. I can't think of game that has AI even close to what TSH wants.

Nothing of what I suggested is in any way revolutionary though.

I just stole a horse by sneaking and jumping on it then riding away - the guy didn't seem to bother and later on I was stopped by a guard and had to pay 50gp to avoid going to jail.

I stole my first horse last night, and 30 seconds later was accosted by five guards who beat me to death, refusing to accept my yield. Guess some towns frown upon it more than others!

One of the biggest dissapointments is how little Skyrim actually improves the feeling of the world.

All the NPCs are terrible, zombie like creatures that wander with no purpose (except the guards), they sleep with all their clothes on and their weapons, they always talk to you about the same things (how about shutting it, you "mercenary work" fucker?), they seem to forget what you did to them very easily, you can put pots over their head while they go about their bussiness, etc...

I mean, it's just the same completely stupid NPCs we've known all these years. It's a major let down for me and makes the game feel more and more like Oblivion.

I admit I'm enchanted by this game but I don't believe we are seeing much progress here to tell you the truth.

I'd go further and be less kind than you.

In five years, they've learned nothing. Nothing at all.

EDIT: Sorry all, I should have been able to agree here without becoming an aggressive troll. I'll get me pelt.

I was attacked by two dragons.. It was a pretty epic conflict!! They seemed to be working as a team! I first noticed them as a horse and cart were thrown high in the air in front of me.. After 30 mins of running for cover, Dragon shouts and firing arrows I killed the pair of them..

All in a days work for Trevor the Dark Elf.

I've tried to fight two at once, they do indeed seem to work together, and certainly don't get into conflicts with one another like the other animals/enemies/monsters do. One ice and one fire dragon was too much though, had to lead one away and kill him alone and when I got back the other one was gone.

You know when you get attacked by hired thugs, carrying a note from a townsperson saying 'please kill PLAYER, because blah blah', right? Oh how I wish you could take that note and use it in a conversation option with the person who wrote it. Shove it in their face and have a confrontation about it.

Since you can't I have to just settle for shooting them in the arse with a poison arrow when nobody's looking.

I'm with you on this and am hoping I'll learn more recipes on my travels that will have greater health benefits or other boosts.. But it is a shame that there is not more on an incentive.

Quick soul gem question: In Oblivion you would use a soul capture spell on a creature, kill it, and it's soul would go into one of your empty soul gems (or the Azura's star soul gem, if you had it). Is this system the same in Skyrim? I ask because my magical bow of awesomeness just ran out of charge, and I'm looking to recharge it. I appear to have a soul gem in my inventory which says it is already filled with a 'petty soul', how do I then apply this to my bow to recharge it?

How are you supposed to know what ingredient goes with what when making potions?

How come in some shops there are things you can take (just white text) and things that you can't (red text)?

I went into an alchemy place and I ended up picking up loads of ingreients from the shelves and she didnt bat an eyelid.

Ah, you can add souls to your weapon from your inventory!

Go to items -> weapons -> your bow. Then press the button it says on the bottom of the screen (ninja edit due to getting things wrong) and you will get a little drop-down menu asking you to select a gem to apply to the weapon :).

If you select the bow in your inventory screen you should see an RB (or equivalent) option to recharge it if you have a filled soul gem available. Took me a while to spot this one too!

Taste each new ingredient the first time you find one to identify the first property. If you have lots of something you can also experiment, mixing stuff you have randomly and sometimes discover additional properties that way (the skill increases a tiny amount even with failure). Or consult a guide of course.

As to whether things are marked red or white, it seems to be linked to how well the townsfolk like / trust you - to the extent that I have been offered gifts also from bar and shop keeps. We need Dinobot to confirm that mass murderers don't have this option (but then with no-one left alive it would hardly matter).

I've found/sold a few recipies? I assume these teach or give you the ingredients which work together?

Not sure, I've just been grabbing anything which shows in white.

Cheers Cosmic/Loki, that RB button on the magic item screen had indeed eluded me! A decent trick re: charging your magic item which I've used since Oblivion quite a bit is to use summoned creatures. If you know a summon spell, summon them, put a soul trap spell on them, kill them, rinse and repeat. Just filled all 5 of my empty soul gems with this technique.

Get a bit more of an idea of what it actually means to design, create and test a game before posting with such entitlement.

Surely it doesn't mean doing the same thing they did 6 years ago?

I don't want to be negative, I love the game, but I'm not like you - I can't accept that everything is fine or I shouldn't mind some problems because there's so much content.

I wouldn't mind the game being 100 hours instead of 300 if it meant some substancial progress in the mechanics since Obvlivion.
