I journeyed from Riften to the College, and when I got to Windhelm I went west passed it. Along the way I turned and saw the river frothing unusually, except it was an ice sprite (died). So again, but this time when I got to Windhelm I headed north, into the worsening weather. Then with a water breathing necklace I decided to swim, so I did, until I hit pack ice. Got out the sea/river and the scenery was breathtaking. But then I got chased by snow bears, and I die so easily, but I ran away until I met some Al'akir Redguards who had made a women strip! In that weather. Anyway, they left her alone, but I got my revenge on the first by stripping him of his weapon and clothes, and the second of his weapon, but then he caught me and I had to kill them both. Easy seeing as I had their steel and all they had were fists. Then a snow bear chased me all the way to the College.

Am doing this quest but a bit stuck - http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/In_My_Time_of_Need

Not because I dunno what to do but because I'm not sure what is the "right" thing to do. For someone who is trying to be a good guy. They talk about what she's done but I have no idea what they're talking about?! Wondering if it's part of a wider story from previous games that I have no idea about.

Although from looking at that wiki it doesn't look like picking one will be more of a negative choice for someone who is trying to be a goody.

I went for a swim in the river near Riverwood and stumbled across a

small underwater ruin

which had some loot. It was guarded by slaughter fish who did not cause me massive damage but where annoying. It's so rewarding to explore in this.

You're not stuck! You are just facing a moral dilemma.

Brilliant. Was on the way to the first BIG Companions' quest when I found a ruined old fort full of bandits. Hightailed it from there only to see a Dragon swooping down onto me. He flew away, killed the bandits then returned to attack me. Then I noticed the Dragon attacking some other people... I went to join in with those guys, noticing it was a mishmash of guards and blokes in Heavy Armour. The Dragon died and the guys started attacking me!

They were hired goons sent after me!

So my screen went all blurry as I absorbed the soul while I was being beaten to death by big blokes with big swords :< Love this game.

No way - so I could have swum across the river rather than taking the bridge ?

Right. Back to Riverwood. I just love everything about this game - apart from the neglect its causing me to inflict on my wife & animals. I've actually asked Ness to take my controller into work tomorrow as I'm working from home. If she doesn't then its Skyrim 9-5.

Someone may have to confirm this but I would not swim in a river that had a strong current to it so I would not go swimming anywhere as you'll get swept away. Not sure if you could drown that way but you may end up in an undesirable area with powerful people or creatures.

I had the day off work today and have played 7 hours straight

I'm lucky in the fact I have the week off work, but fitting in game time around the family is proving tough.

Although today I've somehow managed to convince the wife to let me setup a second TV in the lounge so I can play this while my daugher watches In the night garden/Waybuloo/Raa Raa etc.

The odd time she started watching my screen I've just explained to her that I'm tickling the animals and putting them too sleep.. When infact I'm actually frying some poor wolf with 10,000volts of pure electricity! :)

Making my way through a forest at night and heard a strange sound behind me that definitely wasn't Lydia (she was off lost among some rocks, as usual). Turned around to come face to face with a giant spider. I actually cried out "Oh my GOD!" at the screen while hammering the triggers

Luckily I got a critical hit in that finished the fight early.

I feel like I've made a big mistake in joining the Stormcloaks. I chose them because I thought they would be like the Rebel Alliance. Turns out they're more like the Bolsheviks or something. A seperate area in their capital for anyone who isn't a Nord? Oh dear. Oh well, doubt the Empire is much better (I'm only about 5hrs into the game so don't know much about either faction really). Loving this so much more than I did Oblivion though... everything that annoyed me about that game is gone.

I only wish I had more time to play it, I'm dying for a long session when I can just dive in and play for like 6hrs+. Oh well, Christmas isn't that far away!

This really is excellent, first game for a while that I'd prefer to be at home playing than at work!

Had an amusing moment earlier when two dragons started on me near some hot springs, I dispatched one of them and the other flew off into the mountains. I then set off towards my quest marker to hear a voice complement me on dealing with the dragon, looked around and saw two naked elves sat having a sauna in the hot springs, glad I gave them some entertainment!

I'm busy at the moment but hopefully will have a break in a bit for a quick session before bed. I can't stop thinking about how I'm going to enchant tunics, sell them, then buy a house. Considering everything else in the game...what a saddo :P

I went with the guys. They didn't really seem like assassins and their offer to split the fee and the way they organise the exchange made me doubt her version of events. Also I was scared of fighting so many Redguards.

Yeah that's what I mean though, usually you can tell from what people say what is the right decision to make, depending on the person you're playing as. I have no idea what either are on about though.

That's the reason I went the other way :P . By the way, those Redguards were pussies.

I've also got a question regarding one of the quests that I've started. Some old woman in the market at Whiterun said her son was missing - so I go into her house and she tells me how the Imperials/Battle Born have captured him etc. She knows it, blah, blah. I've found evidence of such yet do not actually want to tell her or grass up the Imperials...

I chose the Imperial path and I'd like to grass HER up - yet I can't talk to other Battle Born about it, all they say is "Don't ask questions". I want to tell them "The old biddy is nosing around, take her out".

FYI its the "Missing in Action" quest; I've not read total spoilers for the quest just googled it and found the name - I just don't want to help them. Can I safely kill her and her other son, the traitorous buggers?

I've not being able to play this tonight as I've had to make a wedding cake for a friend. Who would get married in the Battlefield / Skyrim / Halo CE triangle? Honestly.

Saints Row 3 and Minecraft out this week too. Ridiculous.

I seem to have encountered a missing NPC bug, in the quest "Good Intentions" on the Mage quest line.

In an earlier quest you find an orb in a dungeon with a guy called Tolfdir. A while and a few conversations later it seems that this orb might be bad news and some order of mages are sending psychic messages to you implying that you might need to destroy it. They also name check a new NPC called The Augur of Dunlain. Everybody I speak to tells me I should ask Tolfdir where the Augur is, only Tolfdir has disappeared completely from Winterhold College. I shit you not, I have spent about 45 minutes (an entire episode of football weekly no less) searching for Tolfdir. I have checked FAQs which just say he is usually in the places where you have done quests with him earlier and he isnt there. I shit you not, I must have been in every single room in the college half a dozen times and spoken to every NPC more than once. Tolfdir is not there. He is gone, vanished, disappeared, fled or packed his bags. I have even been to the "secret" area of the College you are supposed to go after you have spoken to Tolfdir and he isnt there either, and neither NPC who supposedly spawns after your conversation with Tolfdir.

And yes, I have turned on quest tracking and I have tried the clairvoyance spell. I have tried sleeping in my bed (twice) and I have tried rebooting the game. Nothing seems to work. Am I fucked?

I wanted to help them, actually, even though I'm an Imperial. I'm changing the system from within. ;)

I had to travel to the fortress where the son was being held (amazing trek through the world, took me 20 minutes of riding - simply amazing) but I have to free him with no bloodshed (that was my offer so that there is no bloodshed).

Unfortunately I don't have the bribe perk yet, which I assume is needed.

Anyway, I wrote all this because I think if you refuse to help them the quest ends there.

For some reason, the Dark Brotherhood appear to have a price on my head. I just finished the first main questline dungeon, came out in to the open, walked down to the river near Riverwood, and some f'ing hooded dude with a sword leaps out at me and starts kicking my head in.

I was like, "double-U, Tee, Effff", and fried his ass with some fire magic, followed by a swift bonk on the noggin' with my steel mace of +5 noggin' crackin'.

He had a note on him from the Dark Brotherhood describing the bounty on my head, and I was named specifically, so it wasn't a cast of mistaken identity.

Any idea why this has happened? I've not even encountered the Dark Brotherhood, let alone knowingly upset any of them.

I now seem to be stuck with a certain character following me around; she joined up with me as part of a quest which has proved to be impossible at this stage (dungeon full of relatively easy foes, then at the end is a rock hard boss who can kill me with two hits) and doesn't seem to want to go away until I've finished it, even though I've selected something different as my current quest, fast travelled round the map etc. Took a good hour and lots of progress was gained fighting through it too, so I don't want to reload an old save and lose the gains either. Annoying!
