Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

This resistance thing explains why I was suddenly getting OHKO-ed by Frost Dragon breath when I'd been easily defeating Frost Dragons for ages before the patch. I got Enchanting and Smithing to 100 last night and made some Frost and Shock-resistant items, which are now apparently useless.

I'll be very surprised if it gets fixed before Christmas.

You can't be serious. :(

This is a really fucked up patch that makes the game completely broken.

Not installing the patch may be fine for some people, but for those who installed they must uninstall everything and play Vanilla again.

I will not be installing the patch.. Sounds a bit retarted that they didn’t check all this before release..

A bit?!

Oof! With a game with such scope surely even the MS testing procedures must have missed these issues?

Bit of a ball ache that you have to apply the patch if you're 360 - PC Master race winning this week? *edit - unelss you're on steam so...no change in the console vs pc debate!*

Yeah, because it's really difficult to miss that ALL resistances do not work... You'd have to, I don't know, do some battles. Who would ever think that?

As for the "master race", I don't think anyone wins, since this patch was supposed to fix the many problems of the PC version, like the constant crashes and perfomance issues.

Never mind the fact that Bethesda didn't bother to fix these judging by the patch notes....

Anecdotal, I know, but I've had a total of one crash with Skyrim and it runs super-smooth on high settings at 1080p on my 3-year-old PC - much better than Fallout 3 or New Vegas ran, and a damn sight more stable than every Bethesda game I've played before (Oblivion crashed almost constantly for me, including a consistent crash whenever I exited the game, and I had huge trouble with Fallout 3 particularly).

A few things.

Presumably when I get home tonight I can just decline the patch?

Also I seem to get hardly any random dragons. I'm level 33 now and have hardly progressed the main quest (just got to greybeards and got the horn - if you know what I mean). Seems strange given that others are reporting lots of dragons.

I'm playing it on my new PC too and I didn't have many crashes until now. It's a well known and confirmed problem though.

Also, the engine is not optimized at all in the PC, especially when you choose to go over the "console" settings which are medium to high. It jerks more than it should and in places that it shouldn't. Also the shadows are awful.

And there are also serious bugs in all versions, too.

And now we have dragons flying backwards and Flame atronachs dying of fire.

What are peoples thoughts on the books and how do you handle the reading of them, or do you just ignore them?

I got the epub on my Ipad, and generally make a quick mental note of any books I encounter with unusual names and then read them before bed. :D

(having said that, I usually 'open' them in game to make sure I unlock any skills / quests)

On 360 you can clear the cache, then decline the patch when you play the game (which will make you play offline). However this also removes the 1.1 patch from day one, so you'd be playing the game at unpatched 1.0.

I've just done this. Ah well, I'll just start again from the beginning and do that sneaky archer I was gonna do at some point, until they fix things and I can re-patch and play my original game.

Grim news about the patch  Staying off line then since I rather like my 100% fire resist gear.

As for dragons, they seem to favour certain locations (because there are specific spawn points on the map) - these include Riverwood and Winterhold - the college or the village, and the farming country outside of Whiterun. Alternatively you can travel around the more remote areas looking for a distinctive dragon head icon - these sites will, in addition to the dragon, include as bonus items a new word and a treasure chest.

If issues like that have slipped though the patch testing god only knows what other "little" issues will pop up after some prolonged play.. They really need to sort it, sharpish!

In other news, my week long quest to get my mission log under some form of control is almost complete.. Now only have 2 miscellaneous quests on the go (Joining the Stormcloaks or Legion)... From now on I intend to complete any task I'm given before moving onto a new one, regardless of where on the map it takes me.

Let's see how long that idea lasts

Ah, so it works both ways then? I thought it was only resistances for your character. Like the Nord's natural frost resistance, or a ring that gave you 20% better fire resistance...

That's what I read, haven't tested it myself yet (not going to either, I'll put Steam offline and continue playing till this mess is sorted out.)

I'm now stuck in a bit of a quandary. Do I keep my PS3 game, with my 100+ hour, 13mb save file that is now unplayable, in the hoep that the next patch really does fix the issue (based on their treatment of previous games, it's about as likely as cancer being cured)? Or do I get the 360 version, knowing full well that the current patch will fuck the game up, and also that my creaky old premium 360 with an old 20Gb HDD may just have serious issues with all the fileswapping anyway?

I'm honestly erring on the side of, Bethesda can't code PS3 games, and won't be able to fix the issue, so get the 360 game, knowing a future patch should at least fix the current issues.

Given the current state if your PS3 version I dont think you really have an option but to switch.

Atleast with a game this size even if you have already sunk 100 hours into it, you could restart play a totally different character class, and spend the early levels levelling up in areas you haven't really explored before. It's certainly not the daunting prospect you'd face given a similar situation on other RPG's

Wassat then? Being able to read them offline on the bus on the morning or something would be perfect.

Good point about opening them, I need to start making sure I do at least that, I think I have for most though.

So the Prima guide for this: why is it like £50 on Amazon? Did they only make 11 copies or something?

Something like that yeah...plus the fact it's only Game/GS selling them.

I still don't know what's going on with the limited edition either. Book depository took my money about a month ago but the order is still down as "awaiting publication", god knows if they will ever get any but I'm reluctant to cancel.
