Ridge Racer 8

I don't remember any 'constantly switching between speed classes' in 6 :huh. I really liked the world explorer. Gee tee eff oh, Preacher. :)

Remind me, could you just troll along racing all the bottom races to open up areas before finishing each race in a class?

If so then that may be what he means... I know I did every race before I stepped up a class though as I knew the speed difference would piss me off if I had to go back.

Also, don't bother with 7, it's essentially just a slightly uglier version of RR6

that has to be the most rubbish (and untrue), statements i've heard in a while..... RR7 blows RR6 out of the water; sharper, more detailed looking cars, more cars, more tracks, more music (along with loads of downloadable music, inc some RR6 tracks and older RR music) full 1080p support, 7.1 lossless audio, better presentation, six axis side views, downloadable events) - yeah, right every ridge fan hates all of those things....

Could you elaborate on this?

Just that drifting wasn't as easy to do. You had to build up a fair bit of speed before drifting actually took, or you'd simply end up ramming bumper-first into a wall.

It could be that drifting is just plain easier to do in later games, or it could be that the course designs of the earlier games were trickier. More likely it's a combination of both, but you'd have to try it for yourself to find out.

Hehe I was waiting for this! This is what is known in the industry as a 'beard'. :)

But 7 was definitely a worse looking game, to my eyes.

not really - i would just hate people not to play it because your telling people; 'don't bother with 7, it's essentially just a slightly uglier version of RR6'

with comments like that - what would you be known as in the industry?

Which begs the question: if completion of the game is contingent on completing every race - and if completion is ultimately the main objective of Ridge Racer 6 - why even bother giving players the illusion of choice? What does it actually add to the game? That's what I mean when I say it's convoluted - because it manifestly is.

Just a quick question, how do you "do" the corner drifting in RR7? I have the Japanese version of the game, with Japanese instructions that I can't read, y'see. :) (Yes, due to lack of corner drifting, I haven't even cleared the first challenges yet.)

Stop accelerating briefly, turn sharply then accelerate hard. Keep the accelerator down during the drift and control your steering.

Another tip for RR7 is that drifting right after nitrous runs out gives you a supercharge, which if done right can fill another nitrous bar or two!

Ooh, thanks. :) Would you suggest using the Square and X buttons or the analogue triggers for brake and accelerate, BTW?

How have we nearly reached 2011 and found someone who doesn't know how to play a Ridge Racer game?

:sherlock:

Since the series has become more niche as we've gone along there will be a huge chunk of gamers who've never ever played a Ridge Racer game. Out of the millions of PS3/360's sold how many actually played/bought RR6/7? When was the last home version before that PS2 launch?

Hey, they passed me by. Never had a PS1, which had the most famous Ridge Racer game.

Well, admittedly I did get Ridge Racer DS for 99p from a Comet/Curry's sale, but i don't think I played it more than once.

People think i'm wrong but yet as Preacher points out the series has lost its way.

Go figure. If the core mechanics are that good, 1000 cars wouldn't be an issue.

I could quite happily go on earning cars in a certain other game. And don't get me wrong - its not like i hate retro arcade games or any updates to them.

I love Ridge Racer 7 more than any other driving games. Would like new version with dual shock rumble, and trophies support and steering wheel (Not sure if they support it)

I also want Ridge Racer World Tour game ie racing in Sydney, London, Japan, Paris, Madrid, San Francisco, etc. I know

Namco should hire Bizarre Creatures's unemployed developers and work together with Namco, and make them to work a PGR + Ridge Racer - silly kudos system = winner.

Man I remember playing RR6 on my 92" projector setup and it was the most amazing thing I'd ever experienced... God I love that game.

I was at a mates playing Ridge 6 on a HD projected screen about 10 foot wide only the other week...and it was incredible.

I'm not sure an update would do much really, unless they kept everything the same and made new choons. That would work.

Who does the Ridge Racer voice in 6? He is the Prince to DJ STRYKER's King.

I like the boost effect, I also like the clarity 1080p without AA gives. 1080p doesn't really need AA anyway, that's the point of AA - to make smaller resolutions seem higher.

1080p still benefits from AA massively. It's *still* jaggy, even in that resolution.
