Jesus, they really like their boss battles don't they? That huge biker bot boss took ages! Must've been at least half an hour or something. The fuck?

That boss battle can drag on for far too long because the game §doesn't punish you enough for failing, where failing means shooting the wrong bit of the boss's body when it rears up to clobber the van.

Basically, you shoot the armour off its forearms (generally one at a time because the game moves you from side to side in the van which affects your angle of attack), then shoot the armour off its head, and finally shoot all of the glowing bits. Occasionally you have to shoot it in the bolloeks gear-train, but you'll know when to do that because the boss moves up into a different position. On Hard, it took about 8 minutes, which is about a third of the time it took me on Normal when I had no idea what I was doing.

Man that looks incredibly satisfying. If the game only took place in corridors but allowed you to take on millions of these robots, I'd be happy.

Haha, that's my reaction after having seen a few trailers on the second page on this thread. Glad to see my old self being right for once. :D

This is also much more enjoyable for me during the second playthrough. Maybe it's because I 'understand' the game more now. It's certainly a case of "gameplay first; everything else later" which is probably why everyone fell in love with it in the first place.

  • 3 weeks later...

Trying to play this on PC (Thanks to Kayin for the gift), but I'm having some issues with configuration. When I run the configuration program it only shows my intel 3000 chip, but not my 640m as it only kicks in when a game is running. How can I change the configuration to use the 640m?

Also is there anyway to more minutely adjust the sensitivity? 2 is too little, 3 is too much.

Finished this myself last week. I started it in august i think, gave up after about 2 hours and left it. After reinstalling windows last week i decided id only reinstall games i hadnt played/finished and this was first up. Glad i gave it another shot as i ended up loving it. I think using the joypad over KB&M helped too as it does feel alot better on a pad. Story is mental, dialogue is cheesy in a good way, and the action is always enjoyable. Its got that X factor (not the shitty reality show) that just makes shooting things feel satisfying and fun. Great game overall, got the bad ending i assume

Can't read the thread for fear of spoilers so sorry if answered a million times - the voice thing, how important is it? I feel like a right prick saying "YES. Yeas. Yeeeeas. YEAH!" trying to get him from Gears of War to not be annoyed with me. Also, do the guns get beefier? It's like a peashooter at the moment.

The voice thing is not necessary. Its an extra feature for those who want to indulge in it, but the game works as well without it.

Dan`s main rifle can be upgraded, the charging blast also can be upgraded with great results. My hope is that BD2 will allow to upgrade all weapons, not just the rifle. Also, the nano machines provide bonus accuracy and resistance. I usually give faye all the accuracy bonuses, she becomes infallible with the sniper rifle.

My ending.

Cain was possesed by Amada's clone/AI, Rachel died, Bo died, Faye was allowed to leave, Charlie survived. I have no idea what that ending was... the Japanese guy (Shonbu?) stayed in the Hollow Child waste area.

I only'paid £8 new from Amazon so it was a cheap bit of fun. I got to fight a chandelier, a robotic gorilla thing and a violent motorbike. Not bad for £8. Glad I played it.

Thoughts on finishing it:

  • I liked the exploding robots, being able to take them to pieces was awesome, and I liked that decapitating them made them attack each other
  • Boss battles teetered on the edge of being either fun or tedious constantly
  • Story was stupid but enjoyable
  • The nanobots thing was badly implemented, it was impossible to see any difference in gameplay, short of the slots that gave you an extra health pack or whatever
  • The speech didn't recognise my accent, or was shit in general, or both
  • Cain the smooth talking French robot was awesome
  • Faye's armoured tits were very distracting

Was worth the tenner I paid for it/10

I keep thinking about this game. I'm in Japan at the moment and the JPN cover for the game is awesome...I'm tempted to get it again only for the cover. Also, there are a couple of game guides out, really not necessary give the game is fairly linear, but I would get them just for the artwork.

Just finished this, first game I've finished in months.

It was 90% fun, but the QTEs with bad timing was bad, as were some of the boss battles that went on too long. The one hit kills were annoying, as was the fact turning off subtitles also would not display subtitles during the Japanese language cutscenes.

But overall fun. FUN. Cain rules. My team was normally Cain and Faye.

Finally been warming up to this and then *BAM* there's this Gorilla battle which is sapping my joy away pretty quickly. Getting into a chain of knock-outs, because of split-second reaction failures is maddening. It doesn't help running makes you almost instantly stick to walls and objects. Hopefully I can tackle it after a break.

Grab the Spas 12 shotgun from behind the escalator, use charge shot on the assault rifle to stun it, switch to shotgun, blast the shit out of the cranium section of the gorilla, rinse and repeat, job done.

Ta, will try that next round!

And that's the game completed!

It might have been a 'basic' shooter, but damn, the story kept me going big time. Never seen so much diversity in shooter boss battles as well.

But yeah, one hit kills. Urgh, less of those please.

BTW, I can't be the only one who picked up on the Water Margin/Suikoden reference with there being 108 hybrids. Guess Nagoshi had big plans with this IP.

I finished the game just now too, absolutely loved it.

The only bit that fucked me off was the where you get into that massive robot with the rocket launchers and have to fend off a million enemies.

It's an exciting and unintentionally hilarious game at times. With some truly spectacular boss battles.

It all felt so videogamey the whole time, superb little title.

Yeah the bit that all these kinds of games HAVE to include as standard. You get inside a really slow and clunky vehicle and get twatted from all angles while trying to figure out where things are coming from. I think I had an issue on this bit once where I'd killed every enemy apart from one which remained invisible and impossible to locate or destroy. It was shooting me with it's pea gun every 10 seconds or so. In the end it completely drained my energy and killed me as I couldn't find the culprit anywhere.
